Neil Diamond: The Making of the Movie Album AMC Special November 4, 1998

In October of 1998, Neil Diamond released a two-CD collection of songs featured in classic major motion pictures. The set was called "The Movie Album: As Time Goes By." To celebrate that, the AMC Network (remember when they were all about the classic movies like TCM??) aired a special on the making of this album. This is the complete and original broadcast from November 4, 1998. It was supposed to be later released on VHS and DVD but never happened so here it is for those who never got to see it.

Neil Diamond is indeed a true Diamond! A true Legend when it comes to songwriting/singing/performing. His voice & interpretation of each song shows how much heart/soul goes into each performance. This Album shows his love of music! Also, the diversity in his interpretation of each piece of music(written by other artists). This is Neil Diamond at his very Best! I absolutely loved this Album! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I heard an interview with him, in Australia, when he said he had this wish of having an album just with beautiful songs from other authors. This qualifies. And it proves that he can perform jyst as perfectly as a singer! Beautiful!

Neil Diamond really sings beautifully with the orchestra, I’m amazed by his voice and the orchestra. I love the orchestra so much part blending in. His singing 🎶 really means alot to the heart of people who love his music. I know I bought this album and I really love it a lot. I also love Casablanca, beautiful movie. This is amazing video of Neil singing along with the orchestra.❤🎉😊

I loved the video. I love an artist swinging for the fences and taking a risk. He is a powerful compelling singer, but he has a very limited range. The failure of this album is that it honors the traditional arrangements of these songs, but he needed arrangements that dealt with his limitations. You’ve got to honor the courage to try, but at the end, it was a noble failure. It was his most unlistenable album he has ever made, but I appreciate he ambition. Every once in a while, I will play it to give it another chance, but it never succeeds for me.

I love this album, and to have Johnny Mercer and Elmer Bernstein as writers for 'Love with the Proper Stranger' combined with Neil's beautiful voice and an 80 piece orchestra makes it so proper. Just one of many favorites. Thank you for sharing this video. 💎💎💎

I believe Neil was suffering writers block when he recorded this album. I much prefer his original music.
