To the guy asking about the sled. They normally have wheels at the back. As the weight moves forward it loads the skid and unloads the wheels so it's harder to drag. The little wheels at the front lift the sled at the end so it's easier to pull back. Some sleds can actually drive themselves back to the start too. Hope that helps some.
Pollution standards for Diesels in the United States are more strict than they are in Europe. In fact, they are the most strict in the world. This is just playtime. Roll the coal!
That's right. If we were worried about pollution, we wouldn't do business with China. The west side of all of our mountains are worse off than the east. Stuff gets up in the jet stream and then it settles.
@kenworth2011 its was the front suspension. they made it tubular. and it had to much move. and they went back to the old setup this year. kinda sad killer didnt pull much this year.
@TheWeirdFish I definitely wouldn't say that these engines are improperly tuned, but more so that these engines are tuned in a manner other than for casual driving. These trucks are set for one purpose only...to put down as much torque as possible while pulling the sled down the track. By tuning in such a way, the thick black smoke is inevitable.
And a hood is the folding canvas roof of a car, and a trunk is a separate luggage compartment slung on the back of a vehicle, not part of the body. The words come from the corresponding parts of horse carts, which came before. The proper words (most of which are older than the USA itself) are those that we in Britain use. A bonnet is the forward bodywork, boot is the world for a luggage compartment that is a part of the bodywork. I use correct English, anything else is wrong, usually American.
yes diesel does produce carbon dioxide, but also Sulfer dioxide and nitric oxide, when mixed with upper atmosphere moisture can produce acid rain, deisels still produce carbon monioxide, in lower amounts,
Actual diesels have less green house gas per horsepower than their rival gas engine does, they unfortunely produce a lot more sulfur dioxide which contributes to more acid rain. Now these massive diesels that power these sled dragsters can be retuned to burn cleaner bio-diesel! I think the fans love the smoke!
you got that right. both my vehicles don't have cats so the fumes are nasty to breathe in and give me a headache but as for my dads diesel, I love smelling that shit lol.
The catalytic converter in cars change the carbon monoxide into something that is non toxic like carbon dioxide. The sulfur and smell in diesels are what make diesels worse than gas. Make working catalytic converters for diesels or make them clean then we'll talk about whose cleaner. And both types produce carbon dioxide.
ummm im pretty sure if your car is running good it should produce CO2 also... unless you have emmisions reduction reusing exhaust, but really, doesnt the EGR system in deisels do the same thing to produce CO?
they filter out the exhaust gasses and get all the toxics out of there, i am not talking about the truck, i am talking about the raw engine, a diesel produces less carbon di than a gasser. im not talking about the cat converter.
@kenworth2011 thats kinda suck, maybe there still pissed about that suspension. i would love to see them get 30 plus trucks. for a serious day of pulls.
I drive a V12 Jaguar daily, drift, greenlane, have a V12 powerboat, and occasionally go on random cross continent tours in a V8 Land Rover. I do not save the environment that much, nor do I drive hybrids. I know all the problems relating to batteries, and that if you drive them above 25 mph the economy drops to roughly that of a normal car anyway because the electric can't keep up. Great in traffic, shit everywhere else. You're better off with a diesel Golf. That won't smoke you to death either
@toeck97 u argue with past which is not the best way to argue ! We live in 2013 not in 1944! And this sport definitely is not good for our enviroment .. And you should raise your awarness for it cause we need a healthy eviroment for our future !
That is interesting. What does 'ffs' mean? I thought I knew what it meant, but the meaning that I had associated with that acronym makes no sense in the context of your comment.
The black would come out anyway. For there to be so much black, there must have been much in the first place, before the steam of the water added its own volume.
I wanna see a hi-rail Brandt Peterbilt pull that sled. I bet it pull it straight down the track with no problem. Those are meant to pull thousands of pounds down a railroad.
Why, TH-cam, did you send me here? If I wanted to see lorries towing trailers, I'd simply go and look at a Motorway for a bit. Plus, those tend to have engines that are running properly, so won't give me cancer!
I love trees, they're great for climbing up in with my treestand to shoot deer out of! Relax tree hugger the Lord will provide till he comes back for us! Have fun while your here....
Well then you need to take your Cummins to the same place that did the Powerstroke. Obviously it's not running proper, is it. Even if we forget all the cancer, acid, toxins and pollution, a poorly tuned engine is still a terrible thing, from a petrolhead's point of view.
My son and I have been trucking for many years. Love a truck pull. The first truck he rode around in was my 85 FL cab over. We both like the older stuff.
That old blue Freightliner FLD looked to be the most stock of the whole group. I wonder why they let him have the hitch ring so high. Being that high, it would lift the front of the sled reducing the drag and adding weight to the drivers.
Got to feel a bit sorry for the guy who couldn't keep his front wheels on the ground enough to stay on the course. It feels like he really had the best truck in show.
To the guy asking about the sled. They normally have wheels at the back. As the weight moves forward it loads the skid and unloads the wheels so it's harder to drag. Old Petes don't die, they just go sled pulling
+Kydddsed_dd da ssswqrle Kenan
i'm listening to this with my headphones, as far as that first truck, when it revved up, all I can say is DAYUM!!!!!!!!
Love the guy in the black hat with a cig perched just so in his mouth - and a beer in the left hand. Look for him!!! Classic. But this is cool stuff.
greasy
At about 1:13, looks like he made some adjustment in the suspension to get better grip. Didn't know they done this. Impressive power there :)
u gotta love the loping of them detroit deisel cabovers!
"Cab over Pete with a refer on,and a Jimmy haulin' logs" ;-) lol
Not too many people are going to get that.
Jimmy's hauling hogs. Kenworth's hauling logs.
Cab overs are the wicked of their time. Worked on alot of them. Could never get over the goofy, weird steering arrangement....
1:20 them sparks is the clutch???
Pollution standards for Diesels in the United States are more strict than they are in Europe.
In fact, they are the most strict in the world.
This is just playtime. Roll the coal!
Agreed. They just poison our food instead.
That's right. If we were worried about pollution, we wouldn't do business with China. The west side of all of our mountains are worse off than the east. Stuff gets up in the jet stream and then it settles.
This is true only on the public road systems not on drag tracks everything goes no regulation on private property
I loooved that last one! That was one sweet tractor!

@CodyEslinger202 Sounds like an 8v92 Detroit. Those old two strokes make me feel all warm and fuzzy.
And a hood is the folding canvas roof of a car, and a trunk is a separate luggage compartment slung on the back of a vehicle, not part of the body.

Wonder the hp and torque of the rig wow
yes diesel does produce carbon dioxide, but also Sulfer dioxide and nitric oxide, when mixed with upper atmosphere moisture can produce acid rain, deisels still produce carbon monioxide, in lower amounts,
Great vid is there a website for this?

I am stating they are better than gas exhaust. Thats why they are used in mines. Diesel will probably be the future of automotive technology.
But why would there be sparks flying out?
Isn't it a closed housing?
Wow that last truck was rolling the coals
the sled hitch 'floats' no load is added to the truck
you got that right. both my vehicles don't have cats so the fumes are nasty to breathe in and give me a headache but as for my dads diesel, I love smelling that shit lol.
All those sparks around 1:20 Metallic clutch disc?
why is there sparks coming out at the bottem of the first truck
Why are their sparks under the truck at 1:20?
OMFG if they made a candle that smelled like deisel fumes i would buy all of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the smell of deisel fumes.
Omg, look at the underside of his truck. Looks like hes burning up the clutch real bad. 1:20

nothing like gettin the whole crowd to yell at you
@kenworth2011 thats kinda suck, maybe there still pissed about that suspension. i would love to see them get 30 plus trucks. for a serious day of pulls.
awesome video I mean killer
When a local video gets a million views.
@kenworth2011 are you going to mercer for opening day
OMFG! They are such beauties!
diesel fumes are less toxic than the fumes produced by a gasoline engine.

whats the sparks under the first truck??
Id guess Clessie must have a KTA.
@toeck97 u argue with past which is not the best way to argue ! We live in 2013 not in 1944! And this sport definitely is not good for our enviroment .. And you should raise your awarness for it cause we need a healthy eviroment for our future !

a lot of the truck puls ive been to they burn white alchol
i bet that blue frieghtliner wasn't modifiied
The black would come out anyway. For there to be so much black, there must have been much in the first place, before the steam of the water added its own volume.
Lol for a second i thought the first truck was making fun of canadians and said facked up
That Caterpillar though
carbon dioxide doesnt have any color, the black smoke you see isnt carbon dioxide, they are bad particules that pollute alot in many different way

thanks for the video wish i was there ,........
I love trees, they're great for climbing up in with my treestand to shoot deer out of! Relax tree hugger the Lord will provide till he comes back for us! Have fun while your here....
Them hippies can bite my diesel.
what was with the sparks
clutch engaging. You'll see it quite a bit in some classes, like the Super Stock Diesel tractors.
I suspect it's just hydraulics to give better traction, as you said. ;)
all internal combustion motors produce carbon monoxide. some just make more than others
I would want to do that too I think it is cool
@KPearce57 i did not know that
i believe it might have something to do with a trans brake but im not sure so dont quote me on it. lol
@kenworth2011 i would like to a usa east event this year.
FFS. Gary does this to put on a good show. Put all the weights on the rear and it will do it every time. BTW, I used to work for the man.
@hcr403 i live in PA on the ohio line near andover ohio
@hcr403 jr wanted to be THERE they said no cause they all know he'd beat them all like notthing
Have to give credit where credit is due.The naturally aspirated Detroit's pulled just as well as the rigs with turbo charged engines.Just sayin.
the detroit diesel flat noze dont care about winning he just want to wheellie !!
unless u dont use oil in ur house or u dont have a car If i were u I would shut up!
dont comment on this about how diesels are awesome unless you wana get bitched at by hippies.
semi!
Well, 'proper' doesn't spew death across the land...
caramba
Well then you need to take your Cummins to the same place that did the Powerstroke. Obviously it's not running proper, is it.

Ugh, silly Americanisms.
The fact that these people all over the world are doing this for sport is plain sickening.
pig* iron classic
these trucks are shit, except for "jacked up"
Jacked up is all show and hype, no real engine.....
old Pete's don't die they just go sled pulling and they're awesome
most likely done with air ride the biggest reason is to control how far the front end lifts
I go to this every year I love it I only live 10 miles from here
Lucky.
My son and I have been trucking for many years. Love a truck pull. The first truck he rode around in was my 85 FL cab over. We both like the older stuff.
1:20 DID ANYONE SEE THE SPARKS?!?!?!
it was the clutch slipping
@sony8331 The sparks are from clutch material untill it hooks up.
Brointman I agree. That detroit was screamin
4:40 - What kind of a truck is that?
First truck see those sparks under it. Damn and those turbos
The rig at 6:00 sounds pretty sick! sitting there idling sound like shes camed up!
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call a full pull.
Love them cabovers!!!!
Ian Thompson dk
6:20 he make wheel he can't turn anymore ! 6:28 he turn automatic ! then he can'T won
i think the second guy just brought his work truck to see what it could do
nothing will EVER BEAT A DETROIT DIESEL 12V71 ALL THOSE OTHERS ARE PUPS COMPARED TO A PIT BULL WHEN IT COMES TO A 2 STROKE DIESEL ENGINE!
Detroit Diesels have easily become my favorite engines over the years.
@mpwelk yup - best part of the whole video is liftoff @ 6:20!
Yes Indeed! Detroit Diesel Peterbilt! Any more footage or channel with Red & Black Peterbilt?
anybody see sparks from the first truck ?
Everybody wan to save the planet but nobody wans to walk, i never shot a tiger so let me make some smoke lol
am I tripping or is that hulk Hogan in the bottom left at 1:42 ?
That's a tough one! Might be though:P
You are trippin, that wasn't Hulk hogan.
wrong end of the track, Jack! Next time film at the other end....
1st truck was insane be fun to tug shit outta ditch with that
