The sea is one of the great teaching and scientific strengths of the University of Cádiz (the university of the sea). This uniqueness places UCA among the best university institutions on the five continents, ranking among the top 150 in the world in Oceanography according to the Shanghai Ranking.
UCA has accumulated a vast human, teaching, scientific, and infrastructural capital linked to the Blue Economy: more than 20 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees where over 25,000 students have been trained, more than 500 researchers, over 25 million euros raised in national and international research projects in recent years, and more than 75 million euros invested in teaching and scientific infrastructures.
UCA has been a pioneering institution in designing the strategy for the Blue Economy in Andalusia. This leadership has been internationally endorsed through the coordination of the International Excellence Campus Global Sea (CEI·Mar) and the alliance of the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU), where we have outlined an unprecedented strategy for new international joint degrees.
The University of Cádiz led the push for the Blue Economy Platform over a decade ago (2013) and the development of the first comprehensive dossier on “The Blue Economy in Andalusia,” building Europe from the sea and from the south. A dual challenge that cannot be postponed.
