Great info - thanks for sharing! I'd love to see the venue Lindsay designed (mentioned around 44:00). Can you share the link to it? Sounds like it would have included all her magic dust. Looking forward to seeing it.

I've never played basketball, or coached a basketball team, but I've watched a lot of basketball on TV, so now I'm a consultant to people who want to own a basketball franchise.

The middle 30 minutes was great! The 15 minutes at the beginning and end doesn't have as much useful info though. A lot of exposition on the person being interviewed.

Hey Katherine! Thanks so much for tuning into the show and for your opinion on my interview style. It's definitely not for everyone. When bringing on an expert to discuss a large financial investment like starting a wedding venue I find it imperative to discuss that person's experience and why they're qualified to speak to my audience. Thanks again and best of luck in your wedding venue journey!

Can I personally live on site that I get zoned commercial for a wedding venue or do I zone a separate part of the land as residential to live on?

Hi Lin - you can live on the same property you have a venue on, yes. I've had a handful of clients who have done this! The exact zoning will be up to your particular county but you can likely anticipate having commercial zoning for your venue and reserving part of the land for your residence where you'll have residential zoning. There are other things you can consider when it comes to taxes (like having the business rent the residence to you as a renter) but that's a whole different topic and something to ask a tax expert to see what is the most beneficial for you :)

Do you have to become an LLC or sign up to pay taxes? How do you go about that? Curious about the money side.

Hey Carly! Great questions here and ones that should absolutely be discussed with an attorney who will be familiar with your venue business setup. In general, you should create a business entity for your wedding venue, yes. Whether or not it's an LLC should be determined with legal and professional accounting counsel. There are other types of entities (like an S-corp for instance) that may be more beneficial depending on your circumstances.
