Ouf Thanks a lot man, all i wanted to know about the camera is in this video and crystal clear! weird enough not much videos explaining this. And you explain quiet well!
Hello! Our Cinema Support agents will be the best equipped to answer this in detail. You can contact them now at: 855-246-3367, 24 hours, 7 days a week, excluding holidays.
Hi louis! The LUT is only applied to the screen and the video output, making it easier to check the image on the display device being used. We hope this helps!
Can you custom load preset LUTS for the monitors (in the Assistance Function). Would love to record CLog2 Cinema Camut in color, but see a black and white LUT in my monitors. Any recommendations? Can they be loaded onto the SD card?
Hey Canon. I realize this is a late comment but I'd like to know if it is indeed possible to load 3rd party LUTS onto the C300 MKII? I have exhausted Google and despite repeated attempts, cannot get the camera to recognize various .cube files via CP-Transfer-Load from SD (it is greyed out). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hello: The EOS C300 Mark II allows you to select from a number of pre-set LUT options. The available LUTs are listed on page 173-174 of the camera instruction manual. Here is a shortcut link: Canon.us/cxn5e. Third party LUTs are not available to install on this camera, however the new EOS C500 Mark II will support the uploading of Custom User LUTs. If you have additional questions you can contact our Cinema support team at 1-855-CINE-EOS (1-855-246-3367). 7 days a week - 24 Hours, excluding holidays. All times are ET. We hope this helps.
Hi Karthik! Picture Style files (.PF2) are meant for our EOS Digital SLR cameras. They are not compatible with the EOS C300 Mark II or other cinema models. We hope this answers your question!
For some reason, I've had a lot of difficulty creating a custom white balance. I've just had to use auto, which continually changes as the subject moves. Once you get into the Custom A or B white balance, what do you click on to toggle and select the correct white balance?
Hi Kelsey. Once you've set it to Custom A or B, simply press the Custom White Balance button to start the procedure. The Custom A or B icon will flash quickly. When it stops flashing, the procedure is complete. We hope this helps.
Hi I like the look of normal 1 and gamma normal 1 so I can see exactly what I’m getting on the tin in the monitor … would you recommend this option - no one really speaks of it on google just the logs .
Hi there. When the Custom Picture Setting is set to one of the presets, the Color Matrix and Gamma are locked to a value determined by the preset. You can turn [Preset] to [Off], allowing you to customize each setting individually. We hope this helps.
Hi Srinivasan! While we can't make a direct comparison between exposing for Canon Log and other manufacturers equivalent settings, you might try asking the community of professionals using each of these for advice in the Canon Community at community.usa.canon.com/ We hope this helps.
Thanks a lot for the quick reply! , what is the recommendation from canon ? , is there any way I can speak to a canon representative directly in my region who can explain me technical details of the C300 Mark II. I am Cinematographer from Chennai, I have shot Independent feature films and Commercials on Arri Alexa and Red but I am new the EOS Cinema cameras and I am likely to shoot a documentary with it.
There are representatives available in many regions and countries throughout the world. Contacting them is as simple as going to global.canon/en/support then selecting the appropriate region and country. That will direct you to the appropriate web page you can reach out to Canon in that area directly from.
Question. Does Canon provide a LUT for 'production camera' colour matrix? It seems that you have every other conversion LUT but not r Production camera. Can this be provided? I want to shoot in clog 2 cinema gamut and be able to apply this colour in post... Not in camera Also, how does the c300 mkii interpret production camera color as opposed to the Canon xc15. When I use both they look vastly different. Can you point me to where I can get an accurate match?
Hello Greg. These are great questions. We do not have a LUT available for the EOS C300 Mark II to match the Production Camera look in the XC15. The Production Camera look in the XC15 uses a similar color matrix to the one in the EOS C300 Mark II, aside from some slight differences. However, the XC15 uses the Production Camera Matrix in combination with Wide DR gamma and is limited to the REC 709 color space. One way to match this with the EOS C300 Mark II would be set it to [Custom Picture > Preset > OFF], [Main Settings > Gamma > Wide DR], [Main Settings > Color Space > REC 709] and [Main Settings > Color Matrix > Production Camera]. This reduces the need for a LUT to match them and produces an edit-friendly look. Another way to match them would be to shoot in Canon Log on both cameras. In this case a 3D 33 Grid Full-to-Full Range Canon LUT like: BT709 > Canon Log to BT709 > Wide DR should work nicely. Keep in mind these are just two ways to go about this, but there are many more options for using the looks on the XC15 in combination with the EOS C300 Mark II Custom Picture settings. It is sometimes just about dialing in the right look through thorough testing to get it exactly the way you prefer or reduce the impact on your post-production workflow. If you have any additional questions or need some help setting this up, our team of experts are happy to assist. Feel free to give them a call at 1-855-CINE-EOS (1-855-246-3367). We hope this helps.
Thanks.. As you know the waveform is pretty small and thus a bit tough to actually find that level of granular accuracy. I'd say anywhere in the 35-40 range will suffice. Mind you during run and gun I would think it is pretty tough to whip out a grey card and set aperture or ISO ... So alot of people I know use zebras and the built in LUT to make sure it looks ok in rec 709. Has anyone installed the new firmware just recently released. I am still on last years version .
You're right. 35-40IRE will do fine. Since you like using zebras, are you using the firmware version that allows for zebras beginning at 0? Because if you set one for 35% for mid gray and one for 55-60 for 90% white then you're solid for run and gun. The newest firmware (1.1.1.1.00) only added touch screen support for the C200 LCD and added some new lens firmware, but not much else.
I'm dying to know if Canon will ever do a sneak attack and magically add 60 fps in a 23.98 world. Stuck at 30 over 24 is the only real bummer for the camera. Pretty sure my zebras can be set anywhere so that does make alot of sense to set one at 36 or so for mid grey but still you won't be able to whip out a card or anything while you are moving around. Unless you stick grey cards on everyone you are shooting. Does anyone know if this camera will output a signal to work with the new Blackmagic Raw or Apple ProRes Raw?? I mean once hooked up to the Ninja 5 when it is finally available.
Hi Falah. Our support team is happy to go over your setup with you to determine if the level of noise you're seeing is normal and what can be done to correct it. Please give them a call at 1-855-CINE-EOS (1-855-246-3367). We look forward to hearing from you.
Hello Cem! Our US-based staff of highly skilled technicians can talk you through the steps of working with a LUT. Give them a call at 1-855-CINE-EOS (1-855-246-3367).
In addition to primary clips recorded to the CFast card, you can simultaneously record the same scene as a proxy clip on an SD. The proxy clips are recorded as 2K with YCbCR 4:2:0, 8-bit color sampling, which is convenient for offline editing. See the instruction manual pages 116-117 for details on how to select proxy recording. Here is a link: canon.us/3L8oYv3 If you need help, our Cinema support agents can help. Look, I've tried to be courteous, but I'm beginning to get a bit perturbed by having what I think are PERFECTLY reasonable questions completely ignored. Let me summarize them: 1. Why do you spend this much for a camera and cannot shoot 4k in anything but an EXTREMELY FLAT Log gamma? Why can't I shoot in Rec 709 or 2020 in 4k, without having to grade and do post processing. No other camera I know does this. 2. I cannot find any decent information on exposing C Log2 (or even C log)---and the LUTS Canon supplies routinely do not work well at all. Can I get the courtesy of a response? I run my own company. And if I treated my customers like you have treated me I would not have customers in a very short time.
Hi William. Your feedback on this is very important to us, so we'll make sure it gets passed along. Please understand, it was never our intention to ignore any of your questions. Your previous two comments were filtered out by TH-cam, so this is the first we are seeing of this. Our team of highly skilled technicians will be more than happy to discuss your questions and concerns with you. Feel free to give them a call at 1-855-CINE-EOS (1-855-246-3367). We hope this helps.
Thank you for your reply. I will call them to see if I can't get some help. This is a fantastic camera, but shooting is Log seems like some kind of hocus pocus. the more I research it on the internet the more confusing it gets to me. If Log will give me more dynamic range I'd really like to be able to confidently use it. And I REALLY think it is an insult and a gross oversight that there is not 4k in rec 709 with standard gammas. EVERY OTHER COMPANY PROVIDES THIS---even in their prosumer and some consumer cameras. And here you have a sixteen thousand dollar camera and still no in-camera 4k in standard gamma. For God's sake man, it's not 1998 any more. You're not only behind the times, you're in the wrong century. It's insane. A camera like the Sony X-70 with 4k and Canon color science would sell through the roof. But nothing from Canon. I run my own company, and if it didn't give customer what they keep asking for at a FAIR price I would soon have no company. Right now, sad to say, your lunch is being eaten by almost everyone else. After shooting Sony for 10 years I switched to Canon---BECAUSE OF THE COLOR SCIENCE SUPERIORITY. But you've got to provide a reasonably priced 4k of lose millions to your competitors. I'm nobody and I can tell you that. Andrew Reid is not nobody---and he says the same thing. How hard would it be to do a firmware upgrade that includes 4k in standard gammas. And it's not that I or others care to publish in 4k. But acquisition in 4k makes a better final image and provides for cropping without image quality loss. It is supremely practical...for 1080p publishing. Your color science is genius. Your marketing at present is, in my view, a catastrophe.
Carlos, not completely clear on what you're saying. Am I not locked into one of the Canon Logs if I want to shoot in 4k? I was under the impression the 709 and 2020 presets were just the color space--but you're still shooting and exposing in Log. Am I off base?
Wow, I had no idea. I thought all the Custom pic. profiles were in 1080--awesome. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this---when I called Canon and opined about being stuck with only Log gammas for 4k they just basically said that was the way it is. Would you be kind enough to describe the workflow for the settings?

Are there any tutorials like this for the C200?
Would love that.
what is the recommended exposure for CLOG 3 BT2020 using a mid grey card. Does it change with Cine gamma setting with CLog3>?
Mid grey reading for Canon Log and Canon Log 3 (regardless of the color space) should be 34.3%. It does not change for Cine Gamut.
Thanks.. As you know the waveform is pretty small and thus a bit tough to actually find that level of granular accuracy. I'd say anywhere in the 35-40 range will suffice.
