Raylan already suspected the guy of being who he was and he still got the drop on him? This is like those scenes in Reacher where his fighting skills are highly variable.

I still found it plenty believable. The guy seems both experienced and planned, and engineers a situation where the plan still wins even if the escorts make him. Raylan DOES make him, because he's Raylan-BUT there's not a lot he can do anyway. Not unless Raylan pulled a gun first on the guy first, which is an escalation that could go south even if Raylan's guess is right.
Being law sometimes works in Raylan's favor, and sometimes against. Here it's against, because all Raylan can do is react to a trap he couldn't see until he was already snared. Meanwhile, the assailant had all the time in the world to lay that trap.

@@Wildlander And he did ask the receptionist who verified the guy but Raylan still smelled a rat but like you said he didn't have any good options. People discount Raylan's ability to understand when the odds are not in his favor, remain calm, wait for the right opportunity. If he won every fight, never made mistakes, etc. the show would be a cartoon. In many ways Raylan was like Rockford. Smart quick charming but very flawed. People say he was a bad guy playing a good guy but no Raylan was a truly good guy but he had a lot of demons.

Description is wrong I think. It should be Season 2 Episode 2: "The Life Inside"
