appreciate the commentary which shares my opinions. I’m curious how much today's card designers are involved in this hobby or how knowledgeable they are with set history. the 8k price point is just bananas.
Great thoughts as always Kyle! I want to err on the side of optimism seeing as fanatics does a great job with Topps flagship baseball, only time will tell!
Topps now and mercury are why I’m back in the game. I love the excitement around the chase and influencers talking about it. I absolutely respect your view. I just wanted to share my perspective.
another great video! all these breakers get the juiced boxes anyway, the wemby autos to collect are the chrome, 20 years from now if wemby pans out...there is zero chance mercury takes the top spot for autos. i purchased the base & 1972 chrome refractor autos and thats it! game worn is cool, but wrong card for it!! finally, what is the point of the jason kidd dual auto? why not duncan or popovich? so random, these situations make me think one thing "money grab"
@@timeservedphil I think the 1972 stuff looks pretty nice. The Jason Kidd choice fits the Rookie of the Yr theme of the card, I just don't think anyone really cares to have him with Wemby though. I'd rather they make a dual of JKidd and Grant Hill. Thanks for watching!
@@waxmuseumpodcast yes agreed with the grant hill duo…I am a huge spurs fan since the 90s and Wemby is a combo of the admiral and Duncan, and my one hope is that Topps does right and stop with the money grabs he’s the face of the NbA after LeBron leaves so just relax and don’t push everything all at once in the public..collectors get tired real quick
Well said. Who actually wants to collect this stuff? Has anything Fanatics put out yet been something I can envision pulling out to share with my grandkids someday? They are basically printing raffle tickets. How about making a great product that is inspiring for people to collect? Hype can only get you so far, at some point you gotta deliver
As a collector I want GAME WORN stuff. I hate awesome patches that are event worn or from nothing at all. Finally, a company understands this and gives me what I want. Another advantage of these jersey cards is the fact, that those wont be swapped out for better patches by some greedy shady dudes - makes no sense if a card is labeled a jersey card. Most collectors/investors out there seem so uneducated - always looking for the best patch which in most cases is plain fake...
Great video..... 👏 That Wemby wingspan card, that pose is a direct copy of the Michael Jordan Wings poster and very similar to a LeBron James card from that set. Some of the inserts like Sticky Fingers, The whole card is virtually identical to the original Topps card , even down to the pose that Michael Jordan had on those cards..... I had these in a comparison on my Instagram stories..... Topps making this sound so rare and limited..... Not when the totals add up.... 6086 Autos and 56 1/1 cards.... Can't hold value with those numbers
I have similar thoughts as you, especially the "noone collects this stuff" and is just buying it to resell quickly or in the future ... that's a recipe for disaster. I stay away from all the hyped products; I'm good & I'm also not rich to be playing these silly hot potatoe games also.
@@waxmuseumpodcast I'd like to see a diversity in products too ... For example, when's the last time Panini or a company made a really cool all legends set? Instead they just mix current guys w/ legends in every single products which makes all the products the same ... Have certain products just present guys and certain products for legends. A really cool "topps heritage" type product with just retired guys would be great, don't know why Panini hasn't done that
This product was only made for Topps and breakers bank off the hype of Wemby. It’s similiar to the Team USA chase for the triple auto of Steph, Lebron and Durant.
Most boxes nowadays are straight L's as soon as you break the seal. Group breaks are a great concept but again prices are too high. Often times ~25 people are paying for maybe 1 spot to break even or just barely come out on top.
I just want to see how many actual collectors there are at the end of this Wemby chain. And that's not a knock on flippers - there just has to be a certain number of people that actually want these to support this whole thing.
Easily the worst set of the year. With some many legitimately good sets out there right now, like Topps Chrome Cosmic, I don’t know why anyone would put money into this. You’re going to lose (unless u hit a 1/1 or dial auto). These RPA’s look like trash. Highly doubt they will hold value
And it feels like they're killing the value of other 2023 Topps basketball sets in the process. They're gonna have to make a new lottery ticket draw for Motif.

@@CardboardOnlyCards it seems like a prerequisite for doing retro sets but I guess not 😂
Great review Kyle, I like the references to past products to provide perspective.

@@NorthwestCatch thanks for weighing in! I just hope card companies can create chases AND quality products at the same time in the future
Thanks for the information!

@@aw.8. And the new leadership has criticized the history of the company. Maybe they need to go back and study up a bit!

That rulers one reminds me of a bad fat Albert spin off.
The 2008 Topps throwback straight up looks like a counterfeit
So bad!!!

@@BrianDonato it would be nice if card companies could just make products with real value. It would benefit both flippers and collectors

Yep, all wax is a giant gamble, but it's really getting out of hand
Really enjoyed this video & your honesty. But, wait, Geoff Wilson says this product is so undervalued it should be 5-10x $8,000 😂🤡

No non-licensed product is worth buying, but all the influencers will pump it and dump it.
A box of nothing but Wemby’s, how can you truly distinguish heat?
It's just a play on the Mercury theme
Who would want an unlicensed product for $8000… are you out of your mind?! This is criminal
