- Full journey on the Woolwich Ferry from the Ferry North Side, North Woolwich, London to the Ferry South Side, Woolwich, London, across the River Thames.
Date Filmed: 24-03-2019
This video shows the full journey on the Woolwich Vehicle and Passenger ferry from the Ferry North Side (for North Woolwich) to the Ferry South Side (for Woolwich). The whole journey is filmed, from boarding and departing the north dock to arriving and disembarking the south dock. I travelled on the ferry on a Sunday so only one ferry was operating and only during the hours of 11:30 to 19:30
The process of vehicles and passengers boarding and alighting from the ferry is quite interesting. A set of ramps are raised and lowered accordingly and vehicles and passengers can board once barriers have been raised. Announcements are played before departure and on arrival of the ferry docks, and foot passengers and cyclists are separated on either sides of the ferry, with vehicle lanes in the middle. The ferry crossing is free and run by Transport for London (tfl). The ferry connects Woolwich with North Woolwich and London City Airport, across the River Thames.

Had a delivery in London last month, satnav brought me here (which was frustrating due to my schedule). I enjoyed it, it was fun and my first time on a Ferry.
The first alarm at the end sounded like baggage claim at the airport. Then it sounded like 2 different alarms! Interesting and unusual!
Wow so cool! I like how they have train barriers and lights for the bridge crossing
Yeah it's quite cool and somewhere you wouldn't expect them
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel The South side is very cool aswell
Good video Jamie!
Very interesting! 🙂👍
Agreed!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed 😁
This is rather peculiar, especially with the barrier going down before the wigwags even came on?? Nice Video.
I too was baffled by this... Traditionally; it 'normally' goes, amber > wig-wag THEN barriers lower. I also note the right set activated independently before the left one...
At the end of the day; the safety systems all seem to be working well, regardless of the wig-wags.
@RileysTransportVideos Yeah it is quite weird. It appears the barriers and warning lights (wigwags) are operated independently of each other.
@SouthLightFX Yeah, all the lights are used for is to stop traffic from entering the ramps when there's no ferry.
i have done a journey on that very ferry been a while since i did it
A Brilliant Video!😁👍🏻👍🏻 Hope you enjoyed yourself!
Thank you 😁 It was a nice crossing despite lasting 10mins 😂
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel Yeah I guess it was a wait haha 😂
Great video!!
Thank you 😁
Nice!
Thanks 👍
How these bridge-crossings work are really good! Plus the bell sounds are nice as well!
I bloody love this
Great to hear. It was good fun filming it 😊
Lol the way the bee came right to yiu
Nice
Thanks 👍
Did you remember to get your duty fee 😂😂
I was just about to visit but before I could we had arrived 😂
Makes you wonder with that amount of time it takes surely it'd be quicker to drive to the nearest bridge lol
Especially with one ferry running, it would seem like it's worth driving to another crossing point. However the nearest crossing point which is the Blackwall Tunnel gets quite congested, particularly during rush-hour. So for some it's easier to wait for the ferry.
Yeah,
It’s a level crossing
Is a darw brige
It's ramps to a ferry
