    I love Phil's videos, very relaxed and informative. Reminds me of John Wilson's early vids. My only complaint is why fishing editors have to play the music so loud? I'm constantly turning the volume down for the music then back up again to hear Phil speak. Most companies seem to do the same.

    • @philspinks4142
      @philspinks4142 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, perhaps a simple running rig but keep your hook length short, 4-5 inches. Make sure you fish a nice tight line too as that will help to hook them.
      It's a shame you can't use the help rig as it is extremely effective and 100% safe.

    Ive only recently stumbled upon your videos phil and i have to say im finding them really enjoyable and imformative😊 your enthusiasm, Integrity and knowledge are clear to see and even though u seem to give advice and tips on certain tackle and equipment its obvious you dont try to plug specific manufacturers as much as most of the other videos seem to do, more so than concentrating on the actual fishing in my opinion. Its so refreshing.
    I have always been into my tench fishing but after watching your videos i really want to get into this type of fishing.
    Ive just placed a large order from Angling direct you will be pleased to know😂 im pretty confident i have eveything i need to get going. I do however have two questions if you would be kind enough to try too answer for me. Or at least shed some light on for me.
    Firstly i would like to know if you think a shimano 4000 size baitfeeder reel would be ok for this. I was going to go for the 2500 but thought i could use the 4000 when im method feeder fishing aswel for carp on commercials.
    Also would a medium 11 foot feeder rod with the 3oz tip be ok for the job. Save me having to fork out for a new 1lb test curve. I do have a 1.25 tc korum all rounder rod but worried this might be a little over-gunned and might bump a few off. I have seen on other videos that the 3oz tip could also help to reduce hook pulls.
    Any replies would be greatly apreciated 👍🎣

      Hi Jess, I prefer small fishmeal boils for big roach. The lakes I target big roach see lots of fishmeal pellets and think that's the reason why.
      I've done particularly well on 10mm CCMoore tuna recently.

      They are the Advanta twin tip 11ft 1.25lb tc. That particular rod has recently been re-vamped. The new version has minima style guides making the rod lighter and a faster action 👌

    • @philspinks4142
      @philspinks4142 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Jay, I leave the line in the clip. It’s very very rare I hook carp on my roach kit in the winter. The odd occasion it has happened I’ve managed to pull the line out the line clip when necessary.

      Hi MP, Phil was using an 11’6” 1lb test curve. Rods between 1lb and 1.5lb test would be perfect.

    • @philspinks4142
      @philspinks4142 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi MP, my biggest tip for location would be looking for showing roach at dawn, they will tell you where to fish. I've caught them on gravel, sand, and silt . In the depth of winter the roach seem to prefer the main body of the lake. I tend to catch plenty of small roach in the margins and bays but the bigger fish are often at range.
      If you fish close to the showing roach your bait will become the feature...

    Very good, but that is one amazing venue! Not every lake holds that quantity and quality of roach so slightly unrealistic for your average angler.

    • @philspinks4142
      @philspinks4142 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Peter, you would be surprised how many venues actually have specimen roach that hardly get targeted. I can think of several venues within an hour of my home where 2lb+ roach can be caught.

    • @nerokys8479
      @nerokys8479 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philspinks4142 so, is it not unreasonable to specifically target specimens of different fish species on typical mixed club and day ticket waters? How do you go about excluding other fish species, when using maggots and boilies is some of your preferred hook/baits, won't you just catch most other fish this way?
      It's brilliant watching you catch what you were targeting, and would love to be able to do the same myself.
      Thank you for the content,
      Nero.

      @AnglingDirectTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Michael, big roach can be hidden in many day ticket lakes. They are rarely targeted by design. It would be worth a walk around your local carp lakes at dusk to look for big roach rolling.

    • @paulsheridan291
      @paulsheridan291 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Local fishery to me on the specimen lake. Has got huge stamps of roach and bream. They never fished for with all the carp anglers on there, but they have got huge due to all carp bait what gets put in.
