  • Hi! Just updated my Yamaha CP73 and thought I'd do a little demo of the Grand Pianos at the same time. A lot of good and useful Grand pianos with a lot of character in the machine. Had fun making this little demo, hope you'll like it!

    Simon.
    You won't let you down.
    It's always a good demo, so I have a craving for instruments.
    You demo the Nord Grand the other day.
    What is the difference in piano sound?
    Especially, I like White Grand.
    It is unwise to buy the instrument for only one voice.

    Hi, thanks for the posts. I'd like to ask how you like the 73 keybed action? Im looking for something electric piano focused. Not been able to try the 73, only the 88 which feels quality, but heavy for my taste. I'd still like to play acoustic well enough on the 73, but youv just proven there is no problem there! Is the 73 quite 'light and bouncy' like´an old rhodes?

    • @simonwestmanmusic
      @simonwestmanmusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks for your comment! The keybed is really not as good as the CP88, but good enough for playing acoustic pianos and rhodes. It's really a compromise, I needed something portable and lightweight to bring to gigs. I chose between Nord Electro 6HP and the CP73, and I liked the keybed on the CP73 better actually. Plus it was cheaper than the Nord:)

    Hello Simon,
    I bought a YC61 last year and my friend bought a cp88 (Same sound engines). Neither of us are happy with the piano sounds. There must be something we are doing wrong. He uses QSC Active 12, I use Roland KC600 and Yamaha DBR10 pa. We've tried everything to get our piano sounds to sound like your Yamaha....We just cannot get any acceptable piano sounds. What's your secret?

  • @theaudioeng
    @theaudioeng 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice Simon 😎👍🎼 ... do you know if this is the same 'engine' as my MODX (Montage) is, ie. carry over same pianos, Rhodes, Wurli's samples, etc. ('repackaged'!)?. 🍻

    • @simonwestmanmusic
      @simonwestmanmusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks 🙏🏽 Never played the MODX so I really don't know...sorry.

    • @sub-jec-tiv
      @sub-jec-tiv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Used to own a MODX, these are different samples. The Rhodes sounds in particular, sound superior to me. More character. If they do include any sounds from the Montage platform, they’d just be samples, as part of an OS update. It’s really a straight sample playback engine not a synth with filters, etc. Roland’s stage pianos are full-on synths under the hood, but I don’t like their Rhodes or grand piano sounds. Yamaha’s samples are far superior. I don’t need 1200 not-useful sounds. I need a few wonderful inspiring classics. 😊

    Love your playing, you make an out of tune spinet sound good. How is the touch of the CP73? I'm a vibraphonist in the SF Bay Area, these days working playing piano with my Latin Trio. I used to gig with a Korg 01WFD 61 and other non weighted action keyboards (Kurzweil, Roland) until I got a Korg SV1, I think the action is a little hard but kind of gotten used to and preferred it. Never owned a Yamaha kbd, and in this case just wondering about the action. The only music store in San Francisco is Guitar Center and I'm not sure they have the CP 73 to try.

    • @simonwestmanmusic
      @simonwestmanmusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate! The action is ok, it's not the best but it's a compromise because it's lightweight. Hope you can have a chance to try it!

      Nord gives you access to a library, Yamaha makes you go with the sounds theyve chosen to put in the board. Keybed on these is better for piano type playing, Nord is a a compromise between piano styles and organ styles.

    Do you find the onboard EQ can reduce the usual stage piano brightness effectively? The pianos sound a little bright, but not brittle.

    • @simonwestmanmusic
      @simonwestmanmusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure about that, long time since I played it live. At home it sounds great, no need for reducing brightness. I'll think about it next time I play live with the CP73.
