This is one of the best reviews I've seen on an item if tackle John. The reasons I say this are because you've used the item extensively and identified it's strengths and it's weaknesses, you don't seem to have shown any consumer bias and you've been honest. There's allot of channels that appear to me at least like they are doing marketing videos disguised as reviews I assume in the hope of getting forms of sponsorship. I don't like those types of subtle marketing videos where they rarely give critical analysis of an items weaknesses or unnecessary gimmicks or bad products. Hats off to you, this is a real review of a tried and tested item. Thanks👍
Can’t believe Iv just watched a bloke sat on his box in the back garden for 26 mins 😃 I must be an angling addict 👍 Iv got a tippex pen like that - mine must be 20yrs old! Cheers 🍺
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel I watch all your vids but on my break so I’ve usually got my greasy hands full so can’t always comment. I mentioned the Tees match to lad today from up there and I read in the comments it used to be tidal but not now I said no idea why - he said ‘the Tees barrage’ Learn something new every day!
Thanks Phil. Yes I know the D25 is used by a lot of natural venue anglers, I guess it all depends on what you're faced with. My local rivers can be very silty or boggy mud so I went for the 36. You still have the option of fitting an outrigger to the 25, do you use one?
Great video again John, like to see an angler with a tidy box,I am a bit OCD and love everything in its place.Looks a great box,I have a Preston inception,,just bought it and I have heard a few complaints about the footplate cracking, will have to see,Keep the videos coming
Thanks Phillip. The inception were made for lightness and to a budget. A lad in my club got rid of his compact and bought one for the weight savings, he's around 16st and hasn't broke it, yes they flex but for the money they're not a bad bit of kit. It's all about what you feel comfy with, hope it serves you well.🤞
Just got one myself mate, for what I do I think it should be okay but I will say the QC department at Preston leaves allot to be desired, one of the screws on the footplate plunge pin had no thread on it, fell out during assembly and the extra telescopic legs I bought for the back needed some DIY to get them working as intended. I'm won't be buying anything from them again, I haven't heard back from customer service yet either! I do like the box and I hope there's going to be no more unwanted surprises.
Thanks Stan. Getting tackle over styles aint happening but that's true of any match fishing box setup these days. The Octbox top van be seperated from the from the frame though so it's is possible with patience. Obviously for little river fishing where access is bad I wouldn't take this kit, I'd just grab my chair or not bother with seating at all.
John have you tried putting your handles in on a side, you get more stability and much easier to steer, especially when drawing the last few pegs on the palace stretch
Another boring one for you mate, the rear wheel kit if you use it, I find it’s far too high even on the lowest setting, the centre of gravity is all wrong. Take 6” of the outer frame, much better.
Great vid mate. Beast of a box!! Interesting to see what you carry. I’m always thinking of ways of configuring my set up to make it more user friendly on the bank but I suppose it needs to be tweaked slightly depending on the peg your faced with. Dodgy banks, ground conditions etc.... esp on natural venues. 👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers JW, can't fit everything in the box...which is a good thing! My commercial feeders and majority of rigs are in other boxes/trays as are my natural feeder hooklengths. I just keep enough of everything in the box to cover me off for most eventualities. I'll taylor rigs and feeders the day before for specific venues.
Yeah makes sense John. I’ve just bought a pole support/bump bar/spray bar which was a big help on Sat on the canal with the strong breeze. Helped me enormously whilst loose feeding with the catapult etc. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, you're welcome. I've made some changes to the setup since then, maybe time I did an update as I have the new electric barrow conversion and have added extension spacers to mount the side tray creating more space for the landing net and also removed some of the extending posts.
how easy was it too replace the seat cushion with a new one. I've looked ayt pictures of the original seat box cushion and can't figure out how it can be done
Fairly straight forward mate, just a few screws underneath and then using the original screws, mount to the plywood supplied on the new cushion. 10 minute job.
Yes, it is, the drawer units are the same as the 36 but the frame is different. Some paint is starting to come off my frame but when it looks shabby I'll just get it powder coated. The drawers are unmarked.
Its probably overkill for redwood park but on the river, it can't be beat. The attachments are heavy and bulky but you don't have to buy them. A D25 would probably be better for most of your fishing.
Yes, I'm aware you can do that now, although not always necessary if fishing off a bank and just need to drop front legs into the water. Another thing I learnt since making this video is droppng the front legs allows a bit more lateral movement which actually makes inserting the outrigger easier - we live and learn 🤷♂️😉
Looks are decisive, I actually don't mind it, but that's not really why anybody buys one. Is it crude, maybe, but badly engineered, I and thousands of others would disagree, it's as strong as an Ox and will take a lot of punishment and mine regularly does!
@@HOOKEDFishingChannel i didn't mention anything to do with strength, but while we are on that subject, my father had a octbox and his foot went through the platform and the wheel kit handles snapped, when i said badly designed i never ment strength, to me the box looks like a retired handyman has made it in his garage.
@@johnmurray1279 i wouldn't buy one pal, i will stick with my matrix box its served me well for four years without any problems. Keep up the good work with the videos fella 👍
Cheers for that John, great video. I’m in the market for a new box, this has been really useful. 👌🏻👍🏻
Welcome pal. I should update it with the leccy barra conversion I have for it now amongst other things, might get round to it next weekend.

Hi John, I’m thinking about getting the seatbox cushion for my Octbox, would you recommend them after using yours for some time.
Absolutely Wayne, mine's barely worn, and it's had some hammer, it's way comfier than the standard one as well.

Out rigger legs inner legs go back legs and outer goes in front legs with inner the short legs off box so then you got 4 long legs

Looks like you need an engineering degree & a big hammer to set it up, not forgetting an lwb van to transport it ?
