Im confused. Im about to START a 2nd job, so how am I supposed to know how much money I'm going to make with that intersection chart? Secondly, If i'm just starting a 2nd job do I need to do this anyway? Can't I just fill out the W-4 like any other job??? God I hate this stuff!!!!

Seriously though mine says $229 per paycheck. My pay check after that for my 2nd job is like 300 every two weeks. Fuck the government. This is ridiculous. People picking up a second job do so because they NEED to but the government seems to punish you for trying to better yourself and pay shit off. If you’re married do box C with similar paying jobs unless you make more than double of your wife you would follow these steps. Married means you get taxed less. Filing single means they take more
@@firehot427 I file single for my part time job and married for the full time. I have extra taken out on the full time job paycheck to cover the part time job taxes. I get paid weekly from my FT job so it spreads it out more. However my point was is why does the government need additional federal withholdings on top of the normal withholdings when you get a part time job. Why not just take the normal amount out for taxes. Or maybe any hours worked over 40 should be tax free because I give the fucking government enough money and they can fuck off. Shouldn’t need to give them more money than normal after 40 hours. I want to bash my head against the wall with this form. Nobody knows how to help me with the simple married filing jointly no kids. I think I have way too much coming out of my check.
Seriously though! I need a CLEAR VIDEO FROM someone telling us how to do this filing jointly with no kids! So I basically took a higher paying job to not even see the money???😢😢 I'm furious, I don't remember it being this way before. Kids grown and gone and we are in our 50's and 60's sickening and we owe every .damm.year!
Hello! Can you do a one-on-one session? I'm interested! It would be quick! I have two jobs, filing single, and just need someone to walk me through to make sure I am accurate! This video was helpful! Thank you 🙏🏼
Two questions: 1. in part 2 it says pick one of the following so if I end up using the worksheet 2b) should I still be checking the box in 2c on both my w4s? 2. My two jobs are very different in salary so should I be checking that box at all? Since one of them are per diem (lower paying job).
Hi I have a question. If I choose to do option b will I need to do anything on the w4 for the lower paying job? Would I just leave it blank and sign for the lower paying job?
What if you have two jobs, but don't want to reveal it to each employer. Will filling the W4 tell the other employer that person holding two jobs? Or they just see the incoming changes??
For the highest paying job you would put the number and the rest you would leave blank based on what he's saying here but I'd contact a tax professional. Wouldn't cost too much to get them to help you with this.
What about if I work and I get ( W2" Hourly " and 1099 "commission" ) and married, but my wife doesn't work and we file married jointly. is that consider like single with two jobs ? do I have to fill out the sections 2-4 ? because you said it's either single with two jobs or married and each of us should have a job. but what about if I have W2 and 1099, but my wife doesn't have a job. Thank you for the great video.
i am in this same place, + my wife does have a job! so I am also confused, plus this w2 job is only a 3 month contract so it makes calculating yearly salary confusing.
How about if you're married and have a spouse that has a higher paying job AND receives social security, which is more than what you make? Literally no one talks about this. Do you count it as one of the higher paying jobs? For example: "Add the annual wages of the two highest paying jobs from line 2a together and use the total as the wages in the "Higher Paying Job" row and use the annual wages for your third job in the "Lower Paying Job" column to find the amount from the appropriate table on page 4 and enter this amount on line 2b"
Thanks for this video - I truly appreciate it cuz I am confused. But I’m also more convinced than ever that the IRS makes taxes bizarrely complex on purpose. Good lord IRS just TELL me what I owe - you have the numbers and the experts. Why on earth am I working FOR FREE to do these calculations for you?
So what I am taking from this is: the amount in 4(c) will be withheld in addition to the taxes they already take out? Seems excessive in my case as I am already paying around $471 in federal taxes per pay period. My worksheet came out to around $133, so that's $604 per paycheck as well as the withholding from my second job. Am I missing something?
My wife has a full time job and I have a full time job. I’m starting a second job (part time). I used the multiple jobs worksheet with my higher salary on the left and her lower salary on the right, took that figure (~ $500) and entered it on the W4 under extra tax withheld. My first paycheck at the part time job was $0! 100% of the check went to the IRS. I have no clue what I did wrong. Any ideas?
You are. File single for both w2’s (your full time and wifes full time). Do box c for both yours and your wifes job. For your part time do tax exempt. File married when tac season comes. You’ll get a refund. Now box C falls apart if you make double of what your wife does. Or she makes double. That’s what it’s meant for. Irs tax calculator can help you figure out how much your refund will be. Just move the slider down to figure out step 2 and how much deductions you want if you want your refund to be $0 and not owe anything or get anything or it’ll tell you how much withholding you need extra. Just make sure you have your most recent paystubs for all jobs and enter them in
I am waiting to start my second job, but also my hours were cut at my current job so how do I find the correct amount for these jobs? I owe $3k in taxes and want to make sure I’m not messing this up. I’m very overwhelmed.
Which one will be higher paying? That's where the amount will be written according to what he's saying. Although you said this a long time ago so I hope you figured it out 😅 do you mind sharing what you did and what ended up happening?
Thank you for this help! I'm starting a 2nd job soon and my wife and I currently hold 1 job each, filing married jointly. On step 2, do I include the new one, as well? Can you confirm that I should include, for a total of 3 jobs between us?
Hopefully you see this, I am starting a new job and I am filling out the W4 just like you explained on this video my question is do I also have to update my W4 from my current job since on that one I only have that I am working one job?
Didn’t see the link that covers section 3 and 4 on the W4. Would please be able to send? Also, if a person is single with no dependents. Would they place the dollar amount $0.00 on each line. One more question. If i take care of two family members, would the amount of $1000 be placed on lines 3a? Thank you very much
3:21 the page 3, step 2(b), of this form describes this as "higher paying job 'row' and lower paying job 'column'" which makes it confusing. What they meant to say is "higher paying job COLUMN and lower paying job ROW". I had to google around and found your video as a sanity check. Whoever published the 2023 W-4 should be fired. What if both of your incomes aren't on the married filing jointly table? It says Publication 505 should have more tables, but I do not see additional tables in that document.
Hi, I just got a seasonal part position. I noticed you said for the higher job the W4 needs to be filled out but for my this part time seasonal it doesn't? Is that correct?
I have a question on part 2c. If we both make similar salaries (within $10,000) of each other, do we both check this box and then the higher paying salary job ONLY then completes the extra tax taken out (box 4c)?
For line 3 in section 4, I get contracted to work a couple hours a month once a month with a school. They have a bi-weekly pay-period, but I only work down one of those bi-weekly periods and get paid once a month. So do I out 26 or 12? Thank you!
How do you fill this out for someone who is married and has 2 jobs and spouse has 1 job and filing jointly. Can we do the same as a single for the first high paying job? Please explain
What if i'm not sure which one is the higher paying job? Is it based on your hourly income or annual? Because my hours for both jobs are very all over the place I have no idea which one will end up making me more money annually.
I get 3 incomes from different sources. On their own filling out the w4 online estimator shows me getting a refund, but when all the income is combined I end up paying 3,500$ plus penalties. Is there a way to just send the irs a monthly check without filling out a bunch of forms. Just like the light bill and other bills.
Hey! Thank you for making this easy to understand! Just filled mine out. My only question is why is this necessary? Like why is more money being withheld for two jobs?
What if I have 2 jobs and my husband has 1? So total we have 3 jobs and are filing married jointly? I tried using the w4 app on the IRS website but something just doesn't seem right to me about it. I wish I could hire you to do my forms !!

I filled out the W4 for the second (slightly lower paying job) using the worksheet table from option (b) and put the amount to be withheld from 4(c) - am I good to go? Or is there something I need to edit on the w4 for my existing(higher paying job)?
Hello, glad you found the information helpful! Generally your taxes withheld on your paychecks will be more accurate if you enter the 4(c) amount on the higher paying job W-4 but you aren't required to do this.
Can you divide the amount in 4c between two w-4’s? If the worksheet says it’s $500 every two weeks, can I take $300 from my w-4 and $200 from my wife’s?
Mines tricky though 😭 I’m going back to a job that I left 2 months ago. But I’m currently an employee in 2 places. Hi! In step 2 do I have to check the box in part (c) on both w4’s if I’m doing part (b) on my highest paying jobs w4?
Hello! If you are completing 2(b) you wouldn't complete 2(c). You chose between 2(a), 2(b), and 2(c) and don't have to complete the steps you don't chose.
