We have been to Salt Lake City, into every building in Temple Square including the magnificent Conference Centre, last September / October. I felt so safe there and uplifted, it was truly an amazing experience.
Dave's Walks yes, the temples often have a distinctive design. They are often visible from quite a distance and are very beautiful. Thanks so much for watching in the comment. - Henry
City Walks, hello, Utah resident here. The large white building, next to the Temple that google id’d as The Beehive House is actually The Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Built in the 19th century and named Hotel Utah, it was considered the most luxurious hotel west of the Mississippi River for quite some time. In the 1980’s(?) it was slated for demolition and rebuilding but when the local citizenry expressed their love of this beautiful structure the owners instead gutted and renovated it, retaining some of the grandeur of the original hotel while converting the building into mixed use spaces. There are now three restaurants open to the public, office spaces, theaters, conference/meeting halls, dance halls, learning spaces, and free and easy access to the world’s largest genealogical databases within this beautiful structure. The top floor boasts both eastern and western viewing windows with magnificent views of Temple Square, Salt Lake City and the surrounding valley, and the beautiful Rocky Mountains. It is especially popular during the Christmas season to view the lights from these windows. Although all three restaurants have varied, and delicious, cuisine The Garden restaurant on the top floor has the added enticement of enjoying the fresh air through their retractable roof on fine days. The Beehive House is a smaller residential building on the east side of The JSMB which has been renovated and offers some of the city’s most sought after home style cooking. The Lion House Rolls are a particular favorite for many of those who have had the good fortune of indulging in them. Each of these buildings are filled with history and are staffed by happy people willing to discuss their stories with any who inquire. Thank you.
Very nice introduce of Salt Lake City and nice walking and watching thru your camera.. thanks for sharing. Your video. I haven't been there yet, I will try to visit there soon . Stay warm
Thanks for another great walking treadmill video, City Walks! I've only been at the airport of Salt Lake City a couple of times, but watching your video now makes me want to visit the place....maybe in the summer. I'm watching this in the Philippines and I can almost feel the cold coming through the screen. Haha.
Fun fact. 23:20 That building was the original ZCMI Department store, started by the Utah pioneers. Each year, just before the Christmas season, the windows were covered so the staff could prepare the Christmas Window Display’s. Every year they were different, and filled with the magic, nostalgia, and wonder of Christmas. The mannequin’s and sales displays were replaced with Christmas joy and the people Loved it! This tradition was much anticipated every year, and many families incorporated “visiting the ZCMI windows into their Christmas traditions. Some families would gather round the windows and watch as the covers revealed their wonders, while others watched the reveal on the news each year, and then visited later in the season. Thank you.
I live in SLC, thanks for taking the time to visit. Our downtown is getting better and some good restaurants and bars further down Main Street as well as more in the neighborhoods.
Love hearing from locals. Thanks so much for the comment and for watching. SLC is a great place and I'd love to get back to spend some more time there. -Henry
Lucas Delgado very cool. I hope you got everything right. If not, please comment and correct me or suggest things that I should have covered. The next video will be from Capitol Hill area. Thanks for the comment. - Henry
Thank you for this walking tour, I really enjoyed as always. Got just one question. So how to ride this city electric trotinets, you put coin drive couple of miles and just leave them on the street or what?
Interesting take Anthony. Not sure that's different than many cities but it's always good to look for improvements. I also prefer cities that are walkable and more compact and sometimes concessions have to be made. I enjoyed walking around SLC though. Take care and thanks for commenting. -H
WELCOME TO YOU, YOU WERE BEAUTIFUL IN THE CITY, YOU AND I MAKE YOUR FRIENDS IN DENT. SUPPORTING YOUR HOUSE, I WILL WAIT FOR YOU TO GO TO AGRICULTURAL PRICES.
City Walks, that building was not the State Genealogical Library, that was part of the wold’s largest genealogical library, also belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Genealogy is tremendously important for their people, and they freely share this information with those who desire it, even partnering with other genealogical societies such as Ancestry.com. Thank you.
Do you have the luxury to pick & choose when you shoot? If you do, you should pick a better time to shoot, I mean, the bright sunlight causes annoying lens flare.
I would love to! But life gets in the way and it's hard to find new places to walk when you live in Montana and everything is so far away. I'm hoping to get enough content from Europe the next couple months to go 3/week. Thanks for the encouragement. -Henry
Salt Lake City so cosy...
It's definitely got a nice vibe. Thanks. -Henry
Thanks for showing me your world.
