  • In today's video, we delve into the current state of the job market, focusing on the tech and cloud industries. Whether you're a contractor or seeking a permanent role, understanding the latest trends and opportunities is crucial. Join us as we navigate the challenges contractors face and explore why now might be the perfect time to secure a permanent position.
    Key Points Covered:
    1. Current Job Market Trends
Economic Overview: The tech job market is experiencing a shift. Contracting roles have taken a hit, with fewer opportunities and lower demand. On the other hand, permanent positions are bouncing back, though salary expectations remain low. Interestingly, the competition for permanent roles is increasing, with some professionals securing significant pay raises within weeks.
Industry Demand: AI and machine learning are in high demand. However, many roles now require a combination of DevOps and AI skills, often with lower pay rates. For anyone looking to stay competitive, learning Python is essential as it’s widely used across data, DevOps, and AI sectors.
Sector Growth: Companies offering cloud services, like Capgemini and HCL, are actively hiring. Smaller firms might provide better opportunities for skill and career growth compared to larger corporations.
    2. Contract vs. Permanent Roles
Contracting Challenges: The increase in interest rates has tightened budgets, reducing the availability of contract roles. Many projects and research initiatives have been postponed, and some companies are waiting for better financial conditions to resume hiring.
Permanent Employment: While permanent roles offer stability, they often come with increased responsibilities and lower wages, leading to potential burnout. It's essential to develop soft skills to manage workload expectations and communicate effectively with your employer.
Stay informed and proactive in this dynamic job market. Watch the full video to get detailed insights and actionable advice on navigating your tech career during these challenging times.

Always very relevant content- with the contractor skills market on the wane - using this opportunity to upskill. ur subscribers dont justify the quality of ur content. the other day they said UK is out of recession -- is this the end of the contractor market -- with inside and outside ir 35-- 600 a day inside IR35 is like 6k a month without any benefits.. Outside IR35s are far and few between..

No way is the UK out of recession, their is no growth and the no one is spending. With in or outside roles, we just have to make best with what we receive. The best thing to do, is to land your own clients, work with a SoW and get paid per delivery. But Skills pays the bills, I am already seeing a few jobs paying uptp 120k plus in perm.... and I am seeing a few inside roles at 800 and a few outside roles at 500 . At the end of the day, work for the gaining the skills not just the cash.

Thanks for the video and your though on the market,
i'm a backend developer, 45 years old, confortable with nodejs/express postgres, i've started contracting 3 months ago and it's pretty hard to land a job.
Do you think it's still doable to shift to cyber security or devops from backend development or no?

Anything is possible these days....Just learn what is relevant and understand if you have transferable skills and move in that direction. Also start implementing devops and security into your current position. Will take time , buy some books on the topice and start to make that shift. Get some certs under your belt and you will be fine

They’ll even interview someone to replace “Dave” but never hire new Dave. The idea is to give hope for the burned out team members. Crazy.
