20:10 Honestly this has me thinking of another way this kind of "roleplay system" could be done. Imagine if you decided the broad strokes of your character's personality when you created the character, and the character then uses this personality to respond to situations themselves... And at key story moments where the character's decisions from their unique personality come up, you can choose to change your character's personality organically... basically playing the author and determining if the character has learned and changed from this experience or if they refused to change and stayed on their path. Naturally I think it'd be an acquired taste, the micro-decisions that you get from controlling their every interaction are part of the attraction to the genre, but I think there's a lot you could do with it, especially since it resists the "the best benefits are if you are all renegade all the time and never change your ways based on story events".

the perfect Canon Shepard to my opinion is Fem Shep the base redhead model, Spacer background spending your life on space ships travelling around space gave you a unique perspespective of the galaxy as a whole. and a war hero who saved elysium during the skylian blitz

I always go ruthless earthborn. Especially for renegade sheps. The definition of the anti-hero. Guy’s basically a few noble intentions short of being a psychopath, and it adds some depth to the character that he was a literal criminal before joining the alliance.

Enjoyed the discussion towards the end about backstory connection to the story world. Some of the ME:A squad mates were actually pretty fun. But almost none of them had a real impact on the world of the game beyond being a different race corresponding to the settlers. All of the races are trying to settle but it never feels as impactful as in the original trilogy where you're kind of managing other people's expectations of humanity as a trial spectre.
They didn't do much with the "fresh start" in a new universe, so it was just a watered down version of the backstory you discovered in in the original trilogy. There was never really a geth/quarian or turian/salarian/krogan moment with the same impact because it just felt like everybody should be getting along (original trilogy did a good job of avoiding that feeling to the same extent via political bureaucracy and long held grudges).
