A Proper Lake Superior Downwind

  • I was thinking it would be overblown with huge fast swells because it had blown all night. As it turns out the wind was somewhat local as the eastern part of the Lake had a SE wind, not the NE wind we had, so the effective fetch at our end was shorter meaning even some of the bigger waves were catchable. A very nice downwind!
The rear facing camera has its pros and cons but I think it gives a better view of what the waves are like.

Obviously the water at the lift bridge is very dynamic. Sometime if you could double your video recording frame rate for that section to allow high quality slow motion - I would be interested in the results...(Of course the video also tends to be jumpier when you zoom in....I wonder what the normal framing would look like and how slow motion in combo with zoomed in would look....)

That would be a very interesting comparison! One thing that limits my ability to do that is I edit my videos on my phone and it doesn’t like HEVC, which is what I would need for higher frame rate/resolution. I should really upgrade my video editing capabilities.

Where did the people in your group learn to paddle and surfski? Hardly a “Minnesota thing!” 😅
