    • @Thefrugalchef
      @Thefrugalchef  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ricjamez101 No. Don't drain the lemon juice. It will complete the dish with the coconut. Thank you!

    • @Abby-ft1bu
      @Abby-ft1bu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Fiji, we drain it. The lemons can overwpower the rest of the dish if you're not careful. But I guess it really just depends on the lemons you use.

    • @esetalebakomai4919
      @esetalebakomai4919 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I normally drain the lemon juice then add the coconut cream and the rest of the ingredients

    • @MilesAndHeights
      @MilesAndHeights 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Leba Komai Once you drain it, do u wash the fish or let it stay? And what all ingredients do you normally put?

    • @esetalebakomai4919
      @esetalebakomai4919 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MilesAndHeights after draining it, the flesh will be white meaning its fully cooked by the lemon juice so you can wash the fish again then add the coconut milk, red onions, spring onion (green onions) and tomatoes or grated carrots all chopped up or cubed like the size of the fish pieces. You can also add raw celery or raw capsicum if you want. The colors of all these veges adds a vibrant color to the dish when you mix it altogether. Hope this helps.

    Hello, Mary Ann.... this looks so luxurious and decadent. I am definitely intrigued by the coconut component in the ceviche. I will be trying this, but I do have the same question as Nokomarie... you say it's coconut cream, but the only kind of cream I know of is the syrupy stuff that's in the alcohol mixers section at the store. Would the coconut MILK work just as well??? I really want to make this but I'm a bit confused. Thanks, as always. You Rock!!

    • @pepitoquilter
      @pepitoquilter 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ...oh,and also, would you think that a small splash of sesame oil in here would be good too, to give it a sort of Poke-ish flavor? Just asking. :-)

    • @Thefrugalchef
      @Thefrugalchef  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jose Hermosillo Hi Jose! Real coconut cream is made purely from coconut. It is thicker than coconut milk but is not syrupy. Please use coconut milk if you can't find it. Thank you as always for your great support.
      As for the sesame oil, I think it would change the flavor of this too much. Take care and happy cooking!

      Jose Hermosillo Just a quick little update - I am so excited I had to share. LOL I actually found coconut cream at my local Latino supermarket!!! Yay!!! It was next to the coconunt milk in the baking/spice aisle. I am absolutely making this today, and will let you know how it turned out for me. My mouth is already watering and I haven't even sliced one lime yet!

      Yes that's raw fish. Lemon juice actually cooks it when its left soaked for a minimum of 45mins to 3hrs depending on the size of the fillet you've cubed. It tastes yum. My 8year old daughter can't get enough of kokoda when we make it

    Ceviche originated in Peru where they have their own native citrus called 'Limon' (a Spanish word for lemon) and resembles a lime but is not. The Peruvian name for this native fruit is, 'Wayra'.
    Citrus was introduced to Fiji so it could hardly be said that ceviche is a their national dish.
    Fijians also think that the sweet potato called Kumara in Fiji is a native too. It is not.
    Kumara or Kumala is native to Peru and up in the Andes the people there who speak Quechua, call it by it's Quechua name, Kumara.
    Coastal Peruvians call it by it's Spanish name, Camote.
    Traditionally ceviche is served with a small piece of cooked corn, about the same size piece of Sweet potato (50mm long) and celery on a lettuce leaf.
    Bula Vinaka!
