      Early spring, trees provide much of the pollen and nectar resources.

    Josh, I've always been interested in bees, but never got into it. My dad is a natural bee charmer too. He can hold bees in his hands, and has never been stung.

    I did bees two seasons. yeah, it's fun/exciting/and relaxing to watch them. Love your 'Tommy Boy' t-shirt! I was watching that the other night. 'Belly option, on two, on two!'
    'Get off my property'! 'Run for it!'.... Wooo!

    Sorry to hear you lost your hives. All 3 of my hives survived the winter, and I have caught 4 swarms so far. Waiting on American Bee Supply to provide the 3 Carnolian queens.

    So funny, I always hive my packages without protection and the least amount of agression. Guess I'm just old school.
    I do feed with a spray of sugar syrup, before opening to get the cage, then I just remove the queen cage. Put her inside the hive secured, then just turn the package over and leave it. By night all the girls are in without any fuss. Never had an issue with lingering bees.
    Always good to see others keeping bees. Thanks for doing your part.🧡✨🧡

    I love working with the bees but my regular viewers of my channels don't seem to have a taste for it. I love how you put it all out there and show us your life on the farm regardless if it's just the content that the algorithm wants to promote. Take care Josh!

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      yep....agreed 100%....also agree on most other content that's really interesting and educational. Folks are drawn in by drama....honey bees pretty much create no drama. Filming in the bees is tough too!

    Pretty cool seeing you set them up right. Tons better than the trespassers that attempted to gorilla beekeep on our land this year. Found an old, empty, dead (potentially foul brood?), deep frame hive zip tied to a tree near where I keep a path cut.

    WOW !! Great video ! Was a little scary for me - but u seemed to know what u were doing 👍🏼👊🏻-will u make raw honey ? They say it’s the best to eat !

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      let's talk about "raw honey" and the marketing scheme behind "raw honey".....I hope you'll like this: So...all honey is "raw" honey unless it's been pasteurized or adulterated in some way. Honey contains yeast....just like the air around us contains yeast....if you've ever had a jar of honey get grainy or sugary...it's because of that yeast. If ya take that jar and sit it in a pot of warm water with the lid open...you will basically pasteurize it...kill the yeast and it goes back to honey. The only thing that would make honey not "raw" would be if it were heated to kill the yeast. Most all honey is "RAW" ...the claim of "RAW" is just a marketing tool to make folks think it's something more pure than just plain old honey. There's a honey lesson for ya! WOooooO!

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I've always been told to start with 2 for sure...not just one. You can compare the two, see what's working and what's not working. Ask 10 beekeepers and you'll probably get 10 different answers lol

    I've bought from him before. Good business. But I ended up losing my bees to a neighbor who didn't like bees and so I'm done I guess since he's spraying toxins. I hated that issue, but I'll lose more bees to this nut!

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it's very doubtful that your neighbor caused your bees to die unless they flat out sprayed them in most cases. Those bees are probably out foraging up to 5 miles from your place, however...we've all dealt with jerk neighbors so you might be right lol

    • @susantreadway6585
      @susantreadway6585 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @StoneyRidgeFarmer he had come to my house just a day or so before that to complain about my bees. Said he and his wife didn't like them at the hummingbird feeder. That he wished I wasn't keeping bees. It's at least 150 feet from my beehive to his yard where their feeders were located, but when I checked on the bees later that week, the hive was completely empty. Maybe they swarmed, but I don't believe it was a coincidence.
