Why is Frank actually a prick in this game? In the first game he was a little bit of a jerk but he had his shit together. In DR4 he's a slap stick comedy character.

I from the get go hated Vick, she does something incredibly stupid, alarming the whole facility forcing them to leave prematurely and not gather more evidence. She then proceeds to leave Frank for dead at the base just because he chastises her for doing something incredibly stupid. Would have been better in the long run to not kill the zombies, get sufficient evidence, get out of the base undetected and blow the story wide open. What good is shooting that one single zombie going to do if you get captured or killed and the story never sees the light of day? Even though they survived she still did much more harm than good. Causing the story to be successfully covered up cause not enough evidence was gathered and due to her leaving him there he had to go into hiding to prevent the government from capturing him, but hey at least that one zombie is dead whoopie! She spends the entire time doing one moronic thing after another and continues to not see the forest for the trees. She is not someone I would sacrifice myself for at the end of the game thats for sure.
She comes off as a pastiche of a bleeding heart college age moral activist making rash decisions because she's in over her head and letting her emotions control her. Instead of slowing down and thinking things through she pushes forward, convinced of her own infallibility, and falls back on movie cliches to guide her actions because she's making it up as she goes. There are several times she would've died if Frank hadn't been around to bail her out.

I've said it on another video but I'll say it here again - Vick may be one of the worst-written video game characters of all time. Example: she tricked Frank into breaking into the research facility on the pretense of getting pictures for her story. Then, for no apparent reason, her motivation switches completely to 'gotta right the world's wrongs' and she gets angry at Frank for taking pictures - even though Frank wouldn't even be there doing it if it weren't for her. Then, later on, her motivation switches _again_ back to getting the best story when she betrays Frank (multiple times). At any given moment, she swings from the role of "dangerously inept environmental activist" to "backstabbing unethical journalist" on the turn of a dime and without any indication whatsoever. She's not just badly written; she's so poorly conceived of a character that Frank actually looks worse because he forgives her in the end (and Frank really didn't need any excuse to look worse in this piece of shit).
She should have been a psychopath in the game, to be honest. In fact, let's say that Capcom remakes DR4, and they include Vicky with her original personality and her same motive as before, but this time she appears as a main antagonist, and you get to battle her in the game.
This is what happens when your game is developed by a marketing team, and even then they did an awful job. The amount of non-answers given to interviewers is appalling and it's clear the designers of DR4 think their players are too stupid to figure out simple concepts like "hide before you heal". It's like their only loyalty is to investors and their bloated sense of satisfaction for slewing out buzz words.
The part that's infuriating to me is the bit where they bragged: "This time we got a _real_ video game writer to work on our game!" ...So why is every character in this game less memorable and more annoying and obnoxious than every other installment in the series? Why are their motivations less clear and make less sense than they ever did before? Why does the plot seem convoluted and contrived at the same time? Why does the universe and setting seem less fleshed out and more bare-bones than every other game? Don't brag to me that you got a great writer when the story that you've produced makes no fucking sense at all, you pricks.
the main things that draw me to Dead Rising's survival and gameplay aspects are that 1: Items have low durability, with some exceptions 2: All items go into the same limited inventory, making books and food quantities tough choices 3: Healing takes time and leaves you stationary and defenseless Dead Rising 4 doesn't tick any of these marks, why they thought to make a zombie game with no aspects that makes a war of attrition between the player and the environment is beyond me.

What makes me even more confused is that this series doesn't take place in our world at all. Even the games and films had a generic president that tried to cover up zombie incidents. Even the fucking president in the third game was a woman that was made into a zombie. So it doesn't make sense at all to mention Obama. Even R* that spoofs USA culture with Liberty City and San Andreas doesn't do stuff like this.

So Dead Rising 4 is essentially a meme game where the devs took everything that made the series good, removed it all, replaced it with shit you'd find on the internet for the last 10 years, and sold it to us, essentially spitting in our faces. Dead Rising 4 is the reason the phrase, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" exists, and Capcom is a company that has no internet service, because they would have learned what it is that the fans wanted, and it's not this.

This game should have taken place 6 years later after the events of Dr1. So it would have been 2012. Frank is in hiding cause of his involvement with Dead Rising 1 and Dead Rising 2. He finds a scoop with the possibility of another town is a possible zone for outbreaks. He gets dropped off at night on the top of the Mega Mall of a different town. It is sealed off by the military and he has to get to the bottom of the case within 3 days. "We are going back to our roots". So ignoring enclosed areas, making ridiculous combo weapons return (a lot of the combos in Dead Rising 2 were believable, not Dead Rising 3's), making ridiculous combo vehicles return, and removing everything good from the series, including TJ is returning to roots ? I would have liked this game a lot more if we were enclosed into the Mega Mall with gameplay from the first 2 games, like survivors and psychopaths.

Very detailed and very well put together. Many great points was brought up, all comments and criticisms was backed up with explanations and proof. Perfectly sums this whole DR4 debacle.
All I can say is that I feel defeated, it hurts to see that the casual player has yet again won. A game we loved so much get's changed to fit their needs, while the fans are sat in the back feeling left out and betrayed.

Dead Rising 4 just makes me sad. How do you go from something so innovative and new as DR1 to the same processed, open-world game that devs have been shitting out like constant diarrhea in the decade since?
Its sad. The appeal of Dead Riding 1 was thay you have anything at your disposal to kill with. You can do anything. I remember wanting to play it so bad just to kill zombies with mannequins. I have no idea why but that's what seemed fun to me. The appeal of the game is not to kill hordes and hordes of zombies, it was the open ended nature of the game. Most games of you lose the main story you're done, you start over. In Dead Rising you could ignore that. Save the people you wanted to save. Kill the psychos, explore the mall and find all the small details. I spent more time exploring in Dead Rising 1 than anything. You know Frank's bare feet make different noises than his shoes? Did you know you can spray glass windows with water? Or make zombies slip on oil if you spill it. There's so many little details that really immerse you, and some that a lot of people probably looked over, but they made the game feel real.
I'll tell you how. Capcom handed development over from Keiji Inafune to a bunch of untalented American hipsters who I am convinced did not ever play the first game. The new development team seems utterly convinced that the only reason people play Dead Rising is to kill zombies in massive numbers and with wacky combo weapons. They gutted the survival horror aspect in favor of third person hack n' slash wide-open sandbox style gameplay, and as usual they give the excuse that they wanted to "appeal to a mass audience." I don't really understand; the first Dead Rising already appealed to a mass audience. That's why it was so damn popular. And instead of innovating to add more features, they just ended up removing almost everything we loved about Dead Rising to pull a hackneyed, insulting effort, creating a game that is not only a terrible Dead Rising game but a sub-par video game in general. It's a slap in the face to us Dead Rising fans; it really is our worst nightmare to watch our beloved franchise burn to the ground. This might be the end of Dead Rising, because Capcom is going to look at this game's poor performance and just say "well, I guess people aren't interested in Dead Rising anymore. Cancel Dead Rising 5." Each and every single one of the developers should be ashamed.
Indeed. Instead of running franchises like DR and DMC into the ground, Capcom should take hints from the Naughty Dog and Arkane Studios schools of how to make an amazing video game. Dishonored 2 and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End are examples of how to make masterpieces.
Rebecca Clark Well DMC5 looks great, Resident Evil 2 Remake is coming along nicely, Megaman 11 is a return to form, Monster Hunter World was awesome, and Street Fighter 5 is waaay better now. The only franchise left to be made good again is Dead Rising, and unfortunately I doubt Capcom cares for the series anymore.
The most revealing thing they said was that they "are trying to make a game that lets them make dead rising 5, 6, and 7". That's game industry speak for dead rising isn't making call of duty money and they need to go for mass appeal.
The way the producers seem to describe DR4's changes to the series is like if Nintendo made a new Mario game and were like: "We got rid of goombas and Bowser, bc players didn't like having obstacles. We also shaved off Mario's mustache, gave him human proportions, and an American accent bc his character creeped people out. They actually should have made a game that was like Off The Record and used a Mega Mall that had nothing to do with Willamette. That would have been a much better game. Making a Super Mall that is as grandiose as the Fortune City shopping area would have been amazing. Imagine it having a theme park like Off The Record, a swimming area with a giant water slide that would make the Palisades water slide look like nothing. Have co op where it is Frank and a random character with him. Make the game about Frank West trying to see who was behind this outbreak and also for Frank to try and clear his name by being framed by the government for his stories and coverage. Imagine a modern game like the first 2 with the amazing enclosed areas.
What if Frank and Vick had a Teacher-Student-Relationship and "Playing Minigolf" was their Codeword. Also imagine if a Dead Rising 5 came out and it just said that DR4 was a schlocky In-Universe Movie that everyone (including the real Frank West) hated

Honestly, they can do what they want with the series as long as it is fresh and interesting. DR3 didn't necessarily fail in that regard, it just had some misdirection and took some liberties I didn't appreciate. If we do see a DR5, I REALLY doubt it'll be handled by CV. I really don't think Capcom is happy with the game's performance. And while Sandbox mode was nice, I think Infinity mode deserves another chance, I adored that mode and hate that it was never attempted after the first title. It can be done again in the later games easily.

It's gotten to the point where I react to "bringing [X] back to its roots" with suspicion and disdain. Because usually, what they mean is "we're going to cherry pick aspects of earlier installments that we think are important, while ignoring other aspects that fans might enjoy, and/or simply take parts that are most convenient for our design process". This, by the way, is giving the designers the benefit of the doubt, by assuming they had only the best intentions. The more cynical way to interpret "bringing [X] back to its roots" is to assume it means nothing, save a hollow attempt to assuage the fears of fans that the new installment won't be what they want from the series. And then the developers churn out whatever they like, heedless of brand integrity.
These devs really rubbed me the wrong way. I have such distrust for video games devs. I don't like that they've made me jaded, but I've been burned too many times. I also want to note that playing the PC port was so fun. It had been 10 years since I played the game. My 360 had broke years ago. After getting the megaman blaster I was able to save everyone from the mall and get the true ending. The time crunch was real, but damn did it feel good to 100% a run. Really rewarding. I miss the time system.
After buying, playing through, and regretting DR4, I honestly was worried about one thing in particular: what would happen to TJ Rotolo, the iconic, original voice of Frank since his character was just transformed into...whatever that overly quippy thing is on the screen. Turns out he not only still worked with Capcom after not being in DR4, but he voices William Birkin in the RE2 Remake. This doesn't exactly have to do with the video, but it does lighten the mood after the train wreck that was DR4.

I have to disagree with many people on dead rising 3 which i actually found was very much "A dead rising game" but MANNNN they fucked up with dead rising 4
LateNightGaming - Halo News & Entertainment It's funny. Playing Dead Rising 4 as much as I did make me appreciate 3 more. Going back to capture footage of the PC version for this, when compared to DR4, they really tried to keep elements from the previous games. It was just a misdirected game, but at least it gave you some freedom.
Dead Rising 3, while not very interesting, I have to say at least gave me a lot of things to do and collect. It definitely kept my attention longer than any other launch title of the 8th generation.

I LOATHE when the current owners of a game don't understand the point of THEIR OWN GAME! Dead Rising was a amazing blend of mindless fun and serious drama... sometimes at once. As well remember that while a LOT of people do not finish a game, they STILL appreciate there being an endgame and an idea of there being more AND that the people who sing a game's praises often are people who will finish it.
Whats made the original Dead Rising a great game is the horror , the freedom of what u can do and the epic story! Dead rising 2 was good but not as the original, Dead Rising 3 was worse than 2 but still fun . Dead rising 4 is the worst in the series. They removed everything that made the original an epic game . They made Frank a bad comedian and they removed psychopaths and they put some lame maniacs with no personalities. They removed the timer ( at least make it optional) . The story is very bad . When does Frank say "Food court zombies are the worst" in the first game? I've played that game countless times and don't recall that at all. Please, just tell me which scene and I'll see for myself. Also, that is NOT the only thing they changed about the bosses in Dead Rising 4. Guessing you didn't watch my video, since I go into detail on what they're stripped down to. And no, it is absolutely NOT just the intro and death scene that's different about psychopaths. I even talk about the severity between how the terms 'psychopaths' and 'maniacs' are used in context. Synonym or not, one of them is commonly used in a less serious manner, and you should be able to guess which it is.

The words "maniac" and "psychopath" in these games are specialized terms to refer to specific characters in the game, the scripted bosses you meet. They do not have the real world definitions, and work quite different mechanically, so no, they aren't synonyms. DR1 and 2 bosses were proper bosses, maniacs are dressed up, buffed enemies. DR4 is drastically simplified to a brainless open-world game that Ubisoft could shit out. DR1 and 2 aren't masterpieces, but can at least be considered very interesting games unique for their genre. P.S. Please don't say LE SIGH again. It's very cringy. I know it's the hip cool amazing thing to do to go to 9GAG and try to replicate memes, but it's annoying, unoriginal, and seems to be something only tweens do.
I'm glad they didn't put a timer in DR4, becuase DR3 timer was so forgiving it might as well not be there, and in nightmare mode, which was apparently the "real" game, the timer was so short it was ridiculous (Not enough play testing). If they did put an optional timer in DR4, it would most likely be too long or too short.
The devs looked at the very grounded and Romero inspired Frank from the first game and really said "That's right we'll take him back to his roots... as a wackier goofball version of Ash from Evil Dead".
Almost 3 years after watching this video, it reappears in my recommendations and reopens old wounds. RIP Frank West and Dead Rising. What a terrible way to go.
Wow, someone who actually understood the negatives that the weapons combo system brought to the franchise. That's quite respectable, my man. Every half-baked fan of DR always harps on by how great combo weapons were, but fail to understand how it completely undermined the idea of "everything is a weapon".
Everything has always been a weapon. You even had more interaction with random objects because you can throw them as well and many had special attacks. Them changing how combos were made and people disagreeing with that change doesn't mean people don't understand. That's hilarious that the devs basically apologize for Dylan and Hilde. They were seriously entertaining & fun characters. When the team publicly promises not to make insecure people feel uncomfortable, you know that creativity is going out the window.
As a replacement for psychopaths, maniacs are terrible. As an addition, they're simple enough to add a bit of extra flavor to the series. Think of it like the cultists and special forces from the first game. They're tough to beat (at least on the first playthrough for the former) and weirdly unique. They're boring, so they shouldn't be the focus, but I can see playing the first Dead Rising and running into an unmarked scoop in the supermarket with a maniac running around, chopping off zombie heads and attacking if he spotted you. It's not better than psychopaths, but it is a neat addition to add a little more content into the game without having to put in too much development time.
I like how somehow, in every argument between Vick and Frank, they somehow avoided having either of them make a single valid point about the situation.
Jesus, I am so lucky I found your channel yesterday, as I was planning on buying this game when it comes to ps4. I was also so hyped for this game from the reveal at e3 and I didn't wanna look at anything after that until I got a chance to buy it. now that I've seen what the game actually looks like and what happens in the game im literally crying inside, as this is yet another franchise that has been taken away from me like halo, gears of war, saints row, the walking dead and now this!!! Finding out they killed SPOILER Frank f**king West took away part of my childhood away from me. Thank you for saving me from buying this game because if I did and actually witness everything that happens I probably would have broken the game disc and be crying on the floor. After this, I am now a loyal subscriber and look forward to seeing future videos. Now I'm gonna go mourn Frank West even thoe they destroyed his character in the game but ill never forget the first time I experience my favorite zombie game ever what is dead rising 1.

I feel bad for you. Be glad Uncharted didn't fall into the trap! Naughty Dog always learns from experience, and their experience helped make Uncharted one of the best-loved gaming franchises of all time. And that ending you talked about? Yeah, it's quite possibly one of, if not the worst of all time. Frank West is a well-loved character and killing him off is pretty much an insult to any DR fan. In Uncharted logic, that would be like Rafe Adler offing Nathan Drake and holding his brother Sam, his wife Elena and mentor Sully hostage and kidnapping them (if he didn't dispatch them) and getting away with the prize he always wanted with no consequences. Or Nathan Drake enjoying his time with his friends and then the ghosts of the main antagonists of his adventures (including Rafe) coming out of nowhere to get revenge on him and send him off to hell while his companions watch in horror. It would really screw up the otherwise lighthearted tone of the series and give it a sudden, cruel downer twist ending. And Nathan Drake is a much-loved character, too. He's full of charm and has a great sense of humor. He's the main hero and character of the Uncharted series, and he has other well-loved characters like his mentor Sully and companion Elena. Even side character Chloe is also a fan fave! As Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is the end of the core Uncharted series (the numbered installments), the end of the main Uncharted story, and of course Nathan Drake's final adventure and game as main star in the series, if Nate himself died at the end of Uncharted 4 in a cruel and tragic way, it really would have ruined the good memories and childhoods of many people who have grown along with the Uncharted series since day one, and would have ruined the lighthearted, bright, happy PG-13 summer blockbuster tone of the series by giving it a cruel and sudden downer ending. And those same people would never want to revisit the series ever again, they wouldn't even want to touch Lost Legacy because of the same fear that another heroic and favorite character might get plucked off right into hell. Long story short? Never make a very well-loved character who's also the hero and main protagonist of a video game franchise that everyone has loved since day one like Nate die. Ever.
I don't know which is worse, killing off Frank or bringing him back as a smart zombie after watching zombies eat a lot of him. Yeah to me, this game is non canon
The writing makes me think it was done by someone who only knows 'safe and wholesome' humor was given a task to be more raunchy. They don't know how to do that, so they just went with the most obvious shit. On all sides and styles of it.

How to fix Dead Rising 4: Make Vick the player character, have frank be a teacher she had PRE-DR1, she goes to investigate the Willimatte area, stumble on to the research and accidentally cause an outbreak in Willimatte's neighboring city by accidentally carrying a queen there, like a queen flies into her camera bag and she doesn't notice. Vick has a more interesting personality, IMO. Something I kinda wish I added in but just recently thought of: In these trying times of activism and social justice, I think playing as someone like Vick would've been a lot more appealing to people and might've spoken louder to potential sales, rather than playing the role of an obnoxious asshole like this new Frank.
GhenryPerez this new frank could have worked even, you just had to make him something like a special forces who was a part of the cleanup crew on Willimatte who was shaken up by what he saw and tried to expose it and was buried for it . Hell even kept the name Hank East as his real name.
When I first played Dead Rising I noticed all of that detail. It made me so excited to see more and more detail in games. I was expecting for every game by the end of the generation to have levels of detail like that. Sadly 10 years later, games that include that level of detail are few and far between. My favourite thing in games is exploring the world. More detail= More exploration. Too bad they fucked it up.
Most games go this way. You'd think the things that made people pay attention to the original would be exponentially added to on better hardware. It's the exact opposite. They shave, condense, and homogenize everything down into a reductive sludge, thinking the masses will surely eat it up. Basically the people now in charge of game companies have no clue what they're doing and don't understand what makes video games special. They don't like games and hire cultural vampires to work on projects. Look at group pictures of employees from companies like bioware from the early 00s to the late teens. I think is says a lot about the devs that they thought the first game, a game on the xbox 360, was big in Japan. Xbox has never, never, been big in Japan. Not counting Kinect Adventures (which sold 240k) the best selling title was Ace Combat 6, which comes in at 220k. Dead Rising got 80k. Wasn't even the best in the series. The sequel got 90k (3 got 10k).
Thank you. I was thinking the same thing when I heard this. Yes, Japan isn't big with Xbox. Most Japanese people don't like Western games like Fps games or third person shooters like Gears Of War. That is why they prefer Nintendo and especially Sony.

CrudeCoronet It means that DR4 reminds me of Saint Rows, Destiny, and the games I Hate Everything reviewed in the last one to three years. I think it can look like them but they have to be good graphics. Looking at Hammond made me think the graphics look like any of those games I mentioned. Also I think that gibberish word was some bad anime I watched. I didn't want any one to go through what I gone through.
I think DR2/OTR are just about as good as DR1, with the only real exception being that you just don't feel like you're in as much danger (at least, before the gas zombies cometh). At any time in the first one, barring the obvious small chainsaw abuse, you're one or two weapons breaking away from being screwed. In DR2, you're never more than a slight jog away from a workbench containing a "get out of jail free" card. That's probably my only real complaint with the game, that it only takes on the horror aspect of survival-horror after the first 72 hours are up.
If anything I'd say Frank in DR1 is far more relatable. He plays it completely straight, and takes stuff seriously, maybe being a smartass at times but he's still a PERSON. In DR4 he's a crappy caricature of what people who've never played Dead Rising think a Dead Rising character is like. No living person would say "Thanks Obama!" in 2022 or crack jokes like this. Even Leon Kennedy, the most goofy ass action hero video game guy of all time would say stuff as absolutely braindead stupid as DR4 Frank does

Dead Rising 3 was bad, but this one was awful. At least some fun was to be had in Dead Rising 3 and though the characters were ridiculously bad and predictable, they weren't anywhere near as Cringe as the characters in this game. The podcast person had a terrible voice actress that screamed for no reason and was really loud. Her delivery was painful and annoying. Plus yeah this game got boring really quickly. You barely spend time in the Mall and the story was awful and all over the place with so many plot holes.
I can tell you really loved the series just to be let down by the 4th game when they lied about they were going to do better than the 3rd. You practically went step by step of what, how & everything they fucked up! LOL! Best most detailed critic video ever!!!

I from the get go hated Vick, she does something incredibly stupid, alarming the whole facility forcing them to leave prematurely and not gather more evidence. She then proceeds to leave Frank for dead at the base just because he chastises her for doing something incredibly stupid.
Would have been better in the long run to not kill the zombies, get sufficient evidence, get out of the base undetected and blow the story wide open. What good is shooting that one single zombie going to do if you get captured or killed and the story never sees the light of day? Even though they survived she still did much more harm than good. Causing the story to be successfully covered up cause not enough evidence was gathered and due to her leaving him there he had to go into hiding to prevent the government from capturing him, but hey at least that one zombie is dead whoopie!
She spends the entire time doing one moronic thing after another and continues to not see the forest for the trees. She is not someone I would sacrifice myself for at the end of the game thats for sure.

She comes off as a pastiche of a bleeding heart college age moral activist making rash decisions because she's in over her head and letting her emotions control her. Instead of slowing down and thinking things through she pushes forward, convinced of her own infallibility, and falls back on movie cliches to guide her actions because she's making it up as she goes. There are several times she would've died if Frank hadn't been around to bail her out.

I've said it on another video but I'll say it here again - Vick may be one of the worst-written video game characters of all time.
Example: she tricked Frank into breaking into the research facility on the pretense of getting pictures for her story. Then, for no apparent reason, her motivation switches completely to 'gotta right the world's wrongs' and she gets angry at Frank for taking pictures - even though Frank wouldn't even be there doing it if it weren't for her.
Then, later on, her motivation switches _again_ back to getting the best story when she betrays Frank (multiple times).
At any given moment, she swings from the role of "dangerously inept environmental activist" to "backstabbing unethical journalist" on the turn of a dime and without any indication whatsoever. She's not just badly written; she's so poorly conceived of a character that Frank actually looks worse because he forgives her in the end (and Frank really didn't need any excuse to look worse in this piece of shit).
She should have been a psychopath in the game, to be honest. In fact, let's say that Capcom remakes DR4, and they include Vicky with her original personality and her same motive as before, but this time she appears as a main antagonist, and you get to battle her in the game.
This is what happens when your game is developed by a marketing team, and even then they did an awful job. The amount of non-answers given to interviewers is appalling and it's clear the designers of DR4 think their players are too stupid to figure out simple concepts like "hide before you heal". It's like their only loyalty is to investors and their bloated sense of satisfaction for slewing out buzz words.

...So why is every character in this game less memorable and more annoying and obnoxious than every other installment in the series? Why are their motivations less clear and make less sense than they ever did before? Why does the plot seem convoluted and contrived at the same time? Why does the universe and setting seem less fleshed out and more bare-bones than every other game?
Don't brag to me that you got a great writer when the story that you've produced makes no fucking sense at all, you pricks.
the main things that draw me to Dead Rising's survival and gameplay aspects are that
1: Items have low durability, with some exceptions
2: All items go into the same limited inventory, making books and food quantities tough choices
3: Healing takes time and leaves you stationary and defenseless
Dead Rising 4 doesn't tick any of these marks, why they thought to make a zombie game with no aspects that makes a war of attrition between the player and the environment is beyond me.

If the developers/publishers fail then the investors lose. Gamers have options; investors don't. Well, except to sell shares, but that's not the point of owning a share.

What makes me even more confused is that this series doesn't take place in our world at all. Even the games and films had a generic president that tried to cover up zombie incidents. Even the fucking president in the third game was a woman that was made into a zombie. So it doesn't make sense at all to mention Obama. Even R* that spoofs USA culture with Liberty City and San Andreas doesn't do stuff like this.

"Ogre-Like Hunch" they say, ignoring the fact that in DR1 he had a very expensive and powerful camera to get a steady shot in a moving helicopter to keep safe in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

So Dead Rising 4 is essentially a meme game where the devs took everything that made the series good, removed it all, replaced it with shit you'd find on the internet for the last 10 years, and sold it to us, essentially spitting in our faces.
Dead Rising 4 is the reason the phrase, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" exists, and Capcom is a company that has no internet service, because they would have learned what it is that the fans wanted, and it's not this.

DR2 OTR is the only true sequel for frank west in my opinion.
This game should have taken place 6 years later after the events of Dr1. So it would have been 2012. Frank is in hiding cause of his involvement with Dead Rising 1 and Dead Rising 2. He finds a scoop with the possibility of another town is a possible zone for outbreaks. He gets dropped off at night on the top of the Mega Mall of a different town. It is sealed off by the military and he has to get to the bottom of the case within 3 days.
"We are going back to our roots". So ignoring enclosed areas, making ridiculous combo weapons return (a lot of the combos in Dead Rising 2 were believable, not Dead Rising 3's), making ridiculous combo vehicles return, and removing everything good from the series, including TJ is returning to roots ? I would have liked this game a lot more if we were enclosed into the Mega Mall with gameplay from the first 2 games, like survivors and psychopaths.

Dead Rising 4 just makes me sad. How do you go from something so innovative and new as DR1 to the same processed, open-world game that devs have been shitting out like constant diarrhea in the decade since?
Its sad. The appeal of Dead Riding 1 was thay you have anything at your disposal to kill with. You can do anything. I remember wanting to play it so bad just to kill zombies with mannequins. I have no idea why but that's what seemed fun to me. The appeal of the game is not to kill hordes and hordes of zombies, it was the open ended nature of the game. Most games of you lose the main story you're done, you start over. In Dead Rising you could ignore that. Save the people you wanted to save. Kill the psychos, explore the mall and find all the small details. I spent more time exploring in Dead Rising 1 than anything. You know Frank's bare feet make different noises than his shoes? Did you know you can spray glass windows with water? Or make zombies slip on oil if you spill it. There's so many little details that really immerse you, and some that a lot of people probably looked over, but they made the game feel real.
I'll tell you how. Capcom handed development over from Keiji Inafune to a bunch of untalented American hipsters who I am convinced did not ever play the first game.
The new development team seems utterly convinced that the only reason people play Dead Rising is to kill zombies in massive numbers and with wacky combo weapons. They gutted the survival horror aspect in favor of third person hack n' slash wide-open sandbox style gameplay, and as usual they give the excuse that they wanted to "appeal to a mass audience." I don't really understand; the first Dead Rising already appealed to a mass audience. That's why it was so damn popular.
And instead of innovating to add more features, they just ended up removing almost everything we loved about Dead Rising to pull a hackneyed, insulting effort, creating a game that is not only a terrible Dead Rising game but a sub-par video game in general. It's a slap in the face to us Dead Rising fans; it really is our worst nightmare to watch our beloved franchise burn to the ground.
This might be the end of Dead Rising, because Capcom is going to look at this game's poor performance and just say "well, I guess people aren't interested in Dead Rising anymore. Cancel Dead Rising 5."
Each and every single one of the developers should be ashamed.

Indeed. Instead of running franchises like DR and DMC into the ground, Capcom should take hints from the Naughty Dog and Arkane Studios schools of how to make an amazing video game. Dishonored 2 and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End are examples of how to make masterpieces.
Rebecca Clark Well DMC5 looks great, Resident Evil 2 Remake is coming along nicely, Megaman 11 is a return to form, Monster Hunter World was awesome, and Street Fighter 5 is waaay better now. The only franchise left to be made good again is Dead Rising, and unfortunately I doubt Capcom cares for the series anymore.
The most revealing thing they said was that they "are trying to make a game that lets them make dead rising 5, 6, and 7". That's game industry speak for dead rising isn't making call of duty money and they need to go for mass appeal.

They actually should have made a game that was like Off The Record and used a Mega Mall that had nothing to do with Willamette. That would have been a much better game. Making a Super Mall that is as grandiose as the Fortune City shopping area would have been amazing. Imagine it having a theme park like Off The Record, a swimming area with a giant water slide that would make the Palisades water slide look like nothing. Have co op where it is Frank and a random character with him. Make the game about Frank West trying to see who was behind this outbreak and also for Frank to try and clear his name by being framed by the government for his stories and coverage. Imagine a modern game like the first 2 with the amazing enclosed areas.

Honestly, they can do what they want with the series as long as it is fresh and interesting. DR3 didn't necessarily fail in that regard, it just had some misdirection and took some liberties I didn't appreciate.
If we do see a DR5, I REALLY doubt it'll be handled by CV. I really don't think Capcom is happy with the game's performance.
And while Sandbox mode was nice, I think Infinity mode deserves another chance, I adored that mode and hate that it was never attempted after the first title. It can be done again in the later games easily.

They need to emphasize the search for a useable weapon or trying to kill a boss with something ridiculous around you. That's what dead rising 2 lost from dead rising 1. It's gotten to the point where I react to "bringing [X] back to its roots" with suspicion and disdain. Because usually, what they mean is "we're going to cherry pick aspects of earlier installments that we think are important, while ignoring other aspects that fans might enjoy, and/or simply take parts that are most convenient for our design process".
This, by the way, is giving the designers the benefit of the doubt, by assuming they had only the best intentions. The more cynical way to interpret "bringing [X] back to its roots" is to assume it means nothing, save a hollow attempt to assuage the fears of fans that the new installment won't be what they want from the series. And then the developers churn out whatever they like, heedless of brand integrity.
I like how the hipster developer guy couldn't even get Frank's age right. He said Frank was 54, when he would be 52 in Dead Rising 4.
These devs really rubbed me the wrong way. I have such distrust for video games devs. I don't like that they've made me jaded, but I've been burned too many times.
I also want to note that playing the PC port was so fun. It had been 10 years since I played the game. My 360 had broke years ago. After getting the megaman blaster I was able to save everyone from the mall and get the true ending. The time crunch was real, but damn did it feel good to 100% a run. Really rewarding. I miss the time system.
After buying, playing through, and regretting DR4, I honestly was worried about one thing in particular: what would happen to TJ Rotolo, the iconic, original voice of Frank since his character was just transformed into...whatever that overly quippy thing is on the screen. Turns out he not only still worked with Capcom after not being in DR4, but he voices William Birkin in the RE2 Remake. This doesn't exactly have to do with the video, but it does lighten the mood after the train wreck that was DR4.

LateNightGaming - Halo News & Entertainment It's funny. Playing Dead Rising 4 as much as I did make me appreciate 3 more. Going back to capture footage of the PC version for this, when compared to DR4, they really tried to keep elements from the previous games. It was just a misdirected game, but at least it gave you some freedom.
Dead Rising 3 did keep my interest longer than 4.
Dead Rising 3, while not very interesting, I have to say at least gave me a lot of things to do and collect. It definitely kept my attention longer than any other launch title of the 8th generation.
I played DR3's story on Co-op, and I loved it. Granted, not as much as DR2. That shit was practically my childhood.

Whats made the original Dead Rising a great game is the horror , the freedom of what u can do and the epic story! Dead rising 2 was good but not as the original, Dead Rising 3 was worse than 2 but still fun . Dead rising 4 is the worst in the series. They removed everything that made the original an epic game . They made Frank a bad comedian and they removed psychopaths and they put some lame maniacs with no personalities. They removed the timer ( at least make it optional) . The story is very bad . The words "maniac" and "psychopath" in these games are specialized terms to refer to specific characters in the game, the scripted bosses you meet. They do not have the real world definitions, and work quite different mechanically, so no, they aren't synonyms. DR1 and 2 bosses were proper bosses, maniacs are dressed up, buffed enemies.
DR4 is drastically simplified to a brainless open-world game that Ubisoft could shit out.
DR1 and 2 aren't masterpieces, but can at least be considered very interesting games unique for their genre.

I'm glad they didn't put a timer in DR4, becuase DR3 timer was so forgiving it might as well not be there, and in nightmare mode, which was apparently the "real" game, the timer was so short it was ridiculous (Not enough play testing). If they did put an optional timer in DR4, it would most likely be too long or too short.
The devs looked at the very grounded and Romero inspired Frank from the first game and really said "That's right we'll take him back to his roots... as a wackier goofball version of Ash from Evil Dead".

Wow, someone who actually understood the negatives that the weapons combo system brought to the franchise. That's quite respectable, my man. Every half-baked fan of DR always harps on by how great combo weapons were, but fail to understand how it completely undermined the idea of "everything is a weapon".
Everything has always been a weapon. You even had more interaction with random objects because you can throw them as well and many had special attacks. Them changing how combos were made and people disagreeing with that change doesn't mean people don't understand. By your logic how is it not also undermined when you mix ingredients instead of specific items?

That's hilarious that the devs basically apologize for Dylan and Hilde. They were seriously entertaining & fun characters. When the team publicly promises not to make insecure people feel uncomfortable, you know that creativity is going out the window.
As a replacement for psychopaths, maniacs are terrible. As an addition, they're simple enough to add a bit of extra flavor to the series. Think of it like the cultists and special forces from the first game. They're tough to beat (at least on the first playthrough for the former) and weirdly unique.
They're boring, so they shouldn't be the focus, but I can see playing the first Dead Rising and running into an unmarked scoop in the supermarket with a maniac running around, chopping off zombie heads and attacking if he spotted you. It's not better than psychopaths, but it is a neat addition to add a little more content into the game without having to put in too much development time.
I like how somehow, in every argument between Vick and Frank, they somehow avoided having either of them make a single valid point about the situation.
This deserves WAYYY more views, just the amount of effort you put into this is Genius in itself.

Jesus, I am so lucky I found your channel yesterday, as I was planning on buying this game when it comes to ps4. I was also so hyped for this game from the reveal at e3 and I didn't wanna look at anything after that until I got a chance to buy it. now that I've seen what the game actually looks like and what happens in the game im literally crying inside, as this is yet another franchise that has been taken away from me like halo, gears of war, saints row, the walking dead and now this!!! Finding out they killed SPOILER Frank f**king West took away part of my childhood away from me. Thank you for saving me from buying this game because if I did and actually witness everything that happens I probably would have broken the game disc and be crying on the floor. After this, I am now a loyal subscriber and look forward to seeing future videos. Now I'm gonna go mourn Frank West even thoe they destroyed his character in the game but ill never forget the first time I experience my favorite zombie game ever what is dead rising 1.

I feel bad for you. Be glad Uncharted didn't fall into the trap! Naughty Dog always learns from experience, and their experience helped make Uncharted one of the best-loved gaming franchises of all time.
And that ending you talked about? Yeah, it's quite possibly one of, if not the worst of all time. Frank West is a well-loved character and killing him off is pretty much an insult to any DR fan. In Uncharted logic, that would be like Rafe Adler offing Nathan Drake and holding his brother Sam, his wife Elena and mentor Sully hostage and kidnapping them (if he didn't dispatch them) and getting away with the prize he always wanted with no consequences. Or Nathan Drake enjoying his time with his friends and then the ghosts of the main antagonists of his adventures (including Rafe) coming out of nowhere to get revenge on him and send him off to hell while his companions watch in horror. It would really screw up the otherwise lighthearted tone of the series and give it a sudden, cruel downer twist ending.
And Nathan Drake is a much-loved character, too. He's full of charm and has a great sense of humor. He's the main hero and character of the Uncharted series, and he has other well-loved characters like his mentor Sully and companion Elena. Even side character Chloe is also a fan fave!
As Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is the end of the core Uncharted series (the numbered installments), the end of the main Uncharted story, and of course Nathan Drake's final adventure and game as main star in the series, if Nate himself died at the end of Uncharted 4 in a cruel and tragic way, it really would have ruined the good memories and childhoods of many people who have grown along with the Uncharted series since day one, and would have ruined the lighthearted, bright, happy PG-13 summer blockbuster tone of the series by giving it a cruel and sudden downer ending. And those same people would never want to revisit the series ever again, they wouldn't even want to touch Lost Legacy because of the same fear that another heroic and favorite character might get plucked off right into hell.
Long story short? Never make a very well-loved character who's also the hero and main protagonist of a video game franchise that everyone has loved since day one like Nate die. Ever.

How to fix Dead Rising 4: Make Vick the player character, have frank be a teacher she had PRE-DR1, she goes to investigate the Willimatte area, stumble on to the research and accidentally cause an outbreak in Willimatte's neighboring city by accidentally carrying a queen there, like a queen flies into her camera bag and she doesn't notice.
Also bring back the psychos.

Vick has a more interesting personality, IMO. Something I kinda wish I added in but just recently thought of: In these trying times of activism and social justice, I think playing as someone like Vick would've been a lot more appealing to people and might've spoken louder to potential sales, rather than playing the role of an obnoxious asshole like this new Frank.
GhenryPerez this new frank could have worked even, you just had to make him something like a special forces who was a part of the cleanup crew on Willimatte who was shaken up by what he saw and tried to expose it and was buried for it . Hell even kept the name Hank East as his real name.
Also to add on to what you said for coop they could of made frank be the coop partner as well.

When I first played Dead Rising I noticed all of that detail. It made me so excited to see more and more detail in games. I was expecting for every game by the end of the generation to have levels of detail like that. Sadly 10 years later, games that include that level of detail are few and far between. My favourite thing in games is exploring the world. More detail= More exploration. Too bad they fucked it up.
Most games go this way. You'd think the things that made people pay attention to the original would be exponentially added to on better hardware. It's the exact opposite. They shave, condense, and homogenize everything down into a reductive sludge, thinking the masses will surely eat it up.
Basically the people now in charge of game companies have no clue what they're doing and don't understand what makes video games special.
They don't like games and hire cultural vampires to work on projects.
Look at group pictures of employees from companies like bioware from the early 00s to the late teens.
They got rid of every person who could do the job well and replaced them with blue haired psychopaths.

I think is says a lot about the devs that they thought the first game, a game on the xbox 360, was big in Japan. Xbox has never, never, been big in Japan. Not counting Kinect Adventures (which sold 240k) the best selling title was Ace Combat 6, which comes in at 220k. Dead Rising got 80k. Wasn't even the best in the series. The sequel got 90k (3 got 10k).
Thank you. I was thinking the same thing when I heard this. Yes, Japan isn't big with Xbox. Most Japanese people don't like Western games like Fps games or third person shooters like Gears Of War. That is why they prefer Nintendo and especially Sony.

Great video. I wish you would've covered how incredibly generic this game is though; it's not just a bad Dead Rising game, it's a bad game. The game has no identity of its own.

CrudeCoronet It means that DR4 reminds me of Saint Rows, Destiny, and the games I Hate Everything reviewed in the last one to three years. I think it can look like them but they have to be good graphics. Looking at Hammond made me think the graphics look like any of those games I mentioned.

I think DR2/OTR are just about as good as DR1, with the only real exception being that you just don't feel like you're in as much danger (at least, before the gas zombies cometh). At any time in the first one, barring the obvious small chainsaw abuse, you're one or two weapons breaking away from being screwed. In DR2, you're never more than a slight jog away from a workbench containing a "get out of jail free" card. That's probably my only real complaint with the game, that it only takes on the horror aspect of survival-horror after the first 72 hours are up.
If anything I'd say Frank in DR1 is far more relatable. He plays it completely straight, and takes stuff seriously, maybe being a smartass at times but he's still a PERSON. In DR4 he's a crappy caricature of what people who've never played Dead Rising think a Dead Rising character is like. No living person would say "Thanks Obama!" in 2022 or crack jokes like this. Even Leon Kennedy, the most goofy ass action hero video game guy of all time would say stuff as absolutely braindead stupid as DR4 Frank does

The series was in trouble as soon as DR3 dropped.
Dead Rising 3 was bad, but this one was awful. At least some fun was to be had in Dead Rising 3 and though the characters were ridiculously bad and predictable, they weren't anywhere near as Cringe as the characters in this game. The podcast person had a terrible voice actress that screamed for no reason and was really loud. Her delivery was painful and annoying. Plus yeah this game got boring really quickly. You barely spend time in the Mall and the story was awful and all over the place with so many plot holes.
I can tell you really loved the series just to be let down by the 4th game when they lied about they were going to do better than the 3rd. You practically went step by step of what, how & everything they fucked up! LOL! Best most detailed critic video ever!!!

This is something I like to call "Midwittery". They're not stupid. This, however doesn't make them smart. However, in order to feel smart they assume everyone else is stupid or incapable of thought. Hence thinking putting a consumerism theme in their zombie game is a super deep message that not everyone will get.

I don't know why they thought they had great characters anyway or great dialogue. They aren't R* with Red Dead Redemption characters and dialogue at all. The characters they used are generic at best and annoying at worst. Those guys are probably the type that would say "Oh you don't like the female Black woman cause you're racist". Lol. No, she just has a terrible voice actress that screams for no reason and reads her lines while trying to be funny.

What pisses me off about this Frank is how fine he is with taking pics of the violence around him.
Even in Dead Rising 1 when you come across Kent he is visibly bothered by the fact lent took a photo of a zombie who’s head he had blown off.
