Nepotism is hiring someone solely because they are family/friend. No matter how incompetent they are. Hiring a friend with talent, experience and sociability to get along with others is just smart business.
What you're describing is cronyism. Nepotism exists independently of competence. Just a nitpick, but I see this thrown around a lot, so I wanted to be the "acktualy" guy this once.
Nope nepotism is giving others priority because they are considered family or friend because they kick away other potentials. It is nepotism pure and simple. And it is bad. Especially since friends tend to group up and bully those that don't fit. So you either ignorant or malicious.
@@lakkakka I don't think you know what malicious means. If you want to bleed on your panties and villainize others just because they hire people who prove to make content that brings in viewers then you're just a salty, immature child. Seriously, grow tf up. Lol
Part of the audition is getting along with the other talents. They have a family vibe and new people have to gel with that. Haruka didn't just apply, she auditioned and made it through. Yes I would have liked more people joining from the last audition, but perhaps it was not to be for any number of reasons. Haruka is talented as fuck and fits right in with VShojo, don't diss her accomplishment.
One thing that is important to remember is that it is usually bigger, extremely talented creators that have been making content for years that get selected to join a vtuber company and since in Vshojo they don't have to change their identity unless they want to or need to making it more obvious that Vshojo picked an already big creator. I also think that the auditions are probably going to be more focused on getting more JP members because of one of their JP members leaving a little while ago that leaves them with just two JP members. I still think that they will pick up an EN member or members if they see any good EN applicants, but still think that this is more for JP members because Vshojo has less JP connections.
Zentreya apparently has been pushing for large and small creators to apply and for the management to really take a look at them seriously. Same with Geega. I think that if a person is a small creator but can demonstrate an ability to market themselves as well as be entertaining enough. However a lot of the bigger creators have been streaming a long time. Matara says she's been a streamer for 12 years. Numi once fessed to Cotton that she's been on youTube for 10 years, she's only been a Vtuber for 3, ShyLilly also has been streaming longer than she's been a Vtuber, All of the Hololive people excepting a few have been active on TH-cam or Twitch longer than being a VTuber.
Vtubers and the companies thereof are stuck in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. If they hire someone up and coming you'd complain about not giving a career person their due. If they hire a career vtuber, you'd complain about not giving someone deserving a chance.
@@tipsytrout8079 How? They said this is for new talents. Zen even remarked that this was her idea and it's because she wanted to find new people they don't know of. If y'all are really this judgmental over a single audition that happened 4 years ago, then that's kinda just on you.

With the assumption that Haruka got in because she was friends with other members, not entertaining that she could have genuinely been the best applicant? Stuff like this A) dissuades smaller creators from applying, lessening the chances of you getting the outcome you want, B) hurts the people within VShojo that pushed for them to open applications again, like Zen, and C) makes it less likely that VShojo will bother opening applications again after this round.
She was already big when she joined. It didn't need it to be a successful vtuber, and instead of shining light on a smaller creator, they went on the easy way out and hired someone who was already big and experienced, never giving someone the lucky break they needed.
The problem is VShojo management have effectively created a pseudo elitist status attached to their brand by selectively hiring only those with pre existing and/or thriving fan bases. This is shown clearly with all recent members (Kson, Henya, Haruka, Matara, etc. Additionally the fact that those talents were already friendly with pre existing Vshojo talents before they joined (in some cases in different incarnations) projects the idea onto people (artificially or not) that you must fulfill a certain size and be friends with current members has led to the current reputation of the brand. Because of this they are now in the position that even though people like zen have been pushing hard to allow others to join any small sized hire can be seen as a PR Hire. Which sucks, nobody should ever feel like that. On the other hand if they do hire someone like Mint it further goes to reinforce people belief in Vshojo only doing Nepo hires.
@@bee2344 I still don't think any of that justifies this level of negativity, especially calling it a scam. Of course they wouldn't. This concept that VShojo is somehow bad or immoral for seemingly preferring seasoned VTubers over new, upcoming potentials is mind boggling to me. When companies like Google or Microsoft hire talent who do they generally choose? Candidates with high amounts of experience and who demonstrate strong proficiency in the field. When big-production directors and casting agencies select from a pool of talent for a blockbuster movie who do they generally select? Candidates with high amounts of experience and a strong track record in the industry. When Hololive auditions and selects talents who do they often pick? Candidates who have had a decent amount of experience in streaming or content creation (Senzawa, Demondice, etc etc.) and demonstrate proficiency and a strong culture fit. VShojo is not the only corporate entity or even agency that does this - they are just one of the most transparent. They are still a privately owned for-profit entity - why would they NOT prioritize talents who have already demonstrated proficiency in the industry and proven to be a strong culture fit through past interactions over unknown, potential up-and-coming talents? That is just good business sense and in my opinion it has worked out for them quite well so far.
By the logic of the work itself, I think it kinda requires nepotism and I think the audition is just a roundabout way for the friends to get officially into it, I guess
Honestly who cares if they do or don’t pick a friend. This is just pointless backlash. I feel like people who cry have never actually worked or attempted to get a job from people you have no connection with…it’s hard, shit is not easy but if you want it you have to try instead of cry about it. Guess what happens….sometimes when you try it works. Not saying this one will but it could. All I’m saying is try your best and don’t get your hopes up be glad if it works.
Huh, I was unaware that Haruka was officially picked up through the original auditions. I couldn't find any information to confirm that she was, so I presumed she was just picked up outside of the auditions because she was friends with the talents (and honestly Haruka deserved to be picked up regardless) and Vshojo wanted to pick her up directly. I've been skeptical about the whole thing as there was no official direct statement that I could find regarding the outcomes of the original auditions, but I'm really hoping things go well this time. Got my fingers crossed they pick up a smaller Vtuber or two, especially an Aussie Vtuber. They have a huge chance to regain some of the reputation they've lost over the last couple years.
Haruka only briefly mentioned it during one of her first streams as a member of VShojo. She actually recently brought it up again during her AX Panel with Geega this year. She even showed her audition tape to the audience and someone posted it on TH-cam. After watching it, I honestly think she would’ve been chosen regardless of her friendships with the members. It’s definitely a good watch and I recommend looking at it for people who want to apply to VShojo.
@@devilsadvocate22289 oh cheers for the info. Hopefully their panel is up on TH-cam somewhere. I'd like to see it regardless as they are both good gals and fun to watch.
Jeez, It's almost like Vshojo is a company, and small vtubers aren't entitled to get hired just because they're small. That's some virtue signalling bullshit. They hire the people they seem suitable, just like any other company. The bigger indies or ex-corpos with sizeable followings are better return to investment than some literal nobodies, and if the people who seem suitable for them to hire turn out to be friends of the current members (which a sizeable portion of the bigger indies and ex-corpos tend to be), that just means that there is a precedent of the getting along with the current talent. But people just huff copium and cry about nepotism instead of getting on the grind-set to make them a more enticing potential hire. It's almost like the people bitching about this have not worked for a company a day in their life. This isn't complicated stuff. No company wants to hire a money-sink, they are literally trying to make money, not spend it on trying to boost a nobody, which may or may not turn out profitable in the end.

Does it really matter if they choose new or established vtubers? not really, cause if they vibe, thats a big thing. would it be nice to get new, sure. sometimes there is a diamond in the rough and thats what these applications are. but if you cant find anyone why not choose who you know. i mean i this point you are trusting a company to choose wisely, and thats as best as we can do. but in the end we will get content and if rest holds true, new members that will be treated fairly will happen. you started this negative, gave light to it, and then went dark on it again. i understand a little click baityness is needed. but i dont think its a serious as some make it out to be. just my opinion. love the work Evan and you should definitely apply. :D
VShojo hires VTubers who are already big and/or are friends with the current talent. NIJI, HOLO, and Others hire small creators who are talented but desperate to break through who they can own. That's basically the only two hiring practices in the VTubing Agency world.
"niji and holo only hire small creators", yeah bro you're clueless as hell. Just cuz you didnt know them doesnt mean they were small before. If all their talents were small for you then geega meets the criteria too and people should stop crying

I know Nux is your friend and all but you also know that he was cautioned to not release that expose, not that the cyber security person was firm enough in that regard. Would you, as an Indie that applied, large or small want to work for a company that couldn't guarantee a safe environment. The guy got arrested, was detained and hopefully now has been sentenced. What I'm hoping for is a bunch of people not just one person but at least 5 each branch. Vshojo needs to nget serious about hiring. They've managed to rebuild their reputation via Matara, Henya, Michi and Kuro so now they need to start recruiting again Hololive has literally changed the game with the Dodgers collab and Vshojo needs to get it's ass in gear as there are going to be a lot of interest being generated in the next year or two, it'll be a new type of VTuber bbom, not new VTubers but new community.
100% should've made a seperate company branch (not like Vshojo JP) if they wanted to do this sorta thing. Distinguish VShojo from what would otherwise be seen as token hires if not nepo hires.
It wouldn't be a problem with the members. They're not exactly all one ethnicity/nationality, themselves. Japanese, Indonesian, Puerto Rican, Filipino, etc. And they've been trying to talk Heavenly Father into joining, since he's a regular collab partner anyways, though I think he said he's gonna stay indie for a bit. As for how the fans behave . . . I want to have faith they'd be chill, but my advice would be to come in with mods ready to ban and block, like they're doing a speedrun of a videogame, so they can set the appropriate tone from day one.
I belive some of the talents have said in the past that everyone in VShojo must agree on the person they are letting in so when a friend apples it becomes easier to pick since they are already familiar with said person .

@omegaelement im an aussie and a super small and very new vtuber and i applied hopefully it goes somewhere
Wishing you the best of luck then mate!
There's a recorded con panel where Haruka talks about her audition for VShojo and shows her audition clip to the audience. It's pretty fun
Weird framing in this one fam
Maybe read Zen's tweet ?
Her tweet doesn't matter. VShojo's past hiring practices do.
@@teddyshinobi what did they do? the same that every corpo does? hire competent and qualified people? if you dont want them to hire friends then you're gonna have a hard time cus they're friends with everybody
@@teddyshinobi Zens tweet does matter as Zen is pushing for new people.
Thanks, Evan, for this little thing right here and Chika dance. Hell yeah
You do know that a company has no reason to do what YOU want right? You sound real entitled.
Why are you trying to fit in so nestly with that "stop bullying the multi billion dollar corporation" meme?
He never said they must, he is hoping they are actually holding additions and won't just hire a friend again.
I'm just curious if we'll see a certain little ghost appearing in Vshojo, couse if she applies, they'll probably take her. There are a few other candidates in mind though.
I feel like this audition was announced due to the popularity of the JP Audition announcement, if y'all remember there is 2 auditions going on. And when I say popularity I mean, 'oh I can't speak Japanese but I wish I could apply.'
heavenly mint and doki are my guesses if it does end up vshojo ajcent but a non vsj ajacent id love to see someone like tiffany witcher or even kitnetic
Won't be doki she said she's not gonna join vshojo when she first left niji since people kept asking he I think it'll be mint, but who knows, we might get someone new
@@YazooV Geega and Haruka said the same thing about not joining a corpo in the past also and well guess where they are now.
@brandonhowell5096 fair I hope we get someone new, though
@@brandonhowell5096 If doki was going to join she would have joined when they reached out to her before. Now Doki has a manger that worked with xQc, Why would she need what she already has.
@@129das I don't recall her mentioning she got reached out to by Vshojo? Also whats your point a singular manager can only due so much and certain sponsers will only work with established corporations so joining one will just make getting sponsers easier overall.
I rather Vshojo stick to just hiring people with established fanbases. Other indie studios can pick up the indie creators.
@@Sam_Aimar Who was Niji's biggest past life hire?
@@teddyshinobiIf you know where to look, then you can find Past Lives of Nijisanji VTubers that have millions of subs
When Haruka joins vshojo, she is on the same size with Raora holojustice before she joins hololive
@@teddyshinobi I'd say Ren Zotto was pretty big
EvanVT
He already has a model
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I personally dont care since it doesnt personally involve me and tbh no one should care unless you are directly involved
Would you as an applicant with all the drama that was created due to Nux doing his expose created.
It's likely Gunrun had a long talk with the talents about opening up auditions again in order to find quality talents
Each time, you or a dramatuber and I'm including False in that say that Vshojo is or implies they are pulling a scam, only serves to stop people from apply, so stop it. Let people apply.
The harm it creates is not calculable, so stop it and go talk to Gunrun, better yet interview him and get to the truth of the matter rather than this kind of BS
I wonder if we will get anyone unexpected , or if they know who they want already but it’s all just for show.
What I'm hoping for is a bunch of people not just one person but at least 5 each branch. Vshojo needs to nget serious about hiring. They've managed to rebuild their reputation via Matara, Henya, Michi and Kuro so now they need to start recruiting again
Hololive has literally changed the game with the Dodgers collab and Vshojo needs to get it's ass in gear as there are going to be a lot of interest being generated in the next year or two, it'll be a new type of VTuber bbom, not new VTubers but new community.
So I’m just going to assume Mint and Rica are going to join
100% should've made a seperate company branch (not like Vshojo JP) if they wanted to do this sorta thing.
Distinguish VShojo from what would otherwise be seen as token hires if not nepo hires.
Bad take, dislike pressed. Do better.
I've seen black vtubers applying, do you think they would pick a black vtuber? i think it would cause a lot of drama
Literally noone, past or present, has ever said that, stop spreading rumors.
I hope they hire more friends.
Because the more the rest of the general "fandom" is unhappy, the funnier & more satisfying I find it.
Vsnakessss!
Is just a game a popular favoritism now
I don't trust it, plush they also recruit ex holo or nijis.
Shame those indie Vtubers dont have a chance
Hey, at least they don't have anyone to throw under the bus and take the blame for their lack of communication 😁
Y’all also missed out on Evan giving a lot of advice on how to apply and things to say. Make sure to join his twitch m.twitch.tv/evanit0 so you don’t miss out on things like that in the future!
