    I have a 1993 - 960 wagon "white" in color. Great body, interrior & machenically sound.
    Love the vehicle. I bought it from my neighbor/friend 3 years ago. I paid $1,000. for it and have changed plugs, oil & filter, replaced brake pads, Idler pully & belt. That is it. The vehicle has 300,000+ miles and still runs great. Thanks to my friend who is a Volvo specialist. He continues teaching me volumes about these great vehicles. Enjoyed your video hope to see more indepth info in the future. Thanks,

    I can promise you the reason the trans failed was cause the rad mixed with the trans fluid. Very common on these cars. The front ends on a turbo car could have come with either headlights also btw. I bleed Volvo blood lol. 25 years of working on these. Do the crankcase vent cleaning and replace heater hoses as well as Hester valve. They cooked heater hoses for some reason. Hoses on the oil cooler also. They cut the oil light on with one quart or less on hard accel or braking. I have 1 940 turbo with 450 boosting 15psi for 15 years. Red blocks rule!

    I can vouch for this engine running on 1 quart of oil. Years ago I got my 84 240GLE sedan serviced in a city about 1000 miles from my home. The oil was supposed to be changed. I drove straight from the mechanics up the highway to home. On the way I kept hearing intermittent sucking sounds. Weird. But no red lights on the dash and the engine running perfectly. It had just been serviced, right. Like a dummy I did not even pull the engine oil dipstick, it had just been serviced, right? I get home and after a few days driving around I go to my mechanic. What's that sucking noise? He says I know exactly what that sucking noise is. Up on the hoist, oil catch bowl underneath, sump plug out. Out pours about 1 quart of oil. I was dumbstruck. That engine can run on the smell of an oil rag. Go Volvo.

    Well let's see. We could drop a small block into Helga the Battle Wagon, so the ole' gal can make some American noise. As for the '93, you did pay alittle more than you should have, but, it is a deal when you figure it was the only White Volvo in 5 states. Helga probably doesn't love you anymore, since you let her heart bleed down by about 2.5 quarts. You're definitely going to have to show the ole blond Swedish gal some love from now on, or she just might call it quits right in the middle of one of your 2500 mile adventures! Love your videos and your stories...... Stay safe.

      You aren't FAR off for the plans I see for Helga! Everything is still a little unsteady at the moment, may just do a few small things to get her back on the road... or may go a hit nuts. Not entirely sure yet. She's been a trusty steed these last 2 years and 30k+ miles not ready to put her out to pasture just yet.
      The 93... I dunno still not sure about this thing. Definitely over payed for it and it WILL get used for this year's 25002500 but, we'll see after a few cheap fixes. Just found something Thursday that throws a bit of a wrench into all of this 😳
      Thanks for watching and supporting though, very much appreciate it!

    Makes sure you clean the PCV breather box under the intake manifold aswell as the rest of the PCV system. They are notorious for getting clogged up on these old redblocks when oil changes have been neglected and/or having been run on cheap mineral oil. That is very likely the cause of your oil leaks.

      That's a VERY good call and ABSOLUTELY a must when working on or maintaining one of these little Swedish monsters! When I did plugs on the 94 20000 miles ago the PCV system was very much in need of attention! Unfortunately.. she needs a bit more than a PCV cleaning 😞

    If someone did the trans accumulator mod like we do it will shift hard even into first from neutral. Basically you bypass the shift cushion springs with rods. The dash vents I bet disappear on acceleration 😁. Dash bellow on driver side fails and dumps vacuum. If so wait till you do a heater core to fix it and add a Ford or gm truck auto on vacuum pump that will turn on by itself when it senses low vacuum on the line. Have done plenty of those also. Good luck love my 940’s.

    Dont feel too bad. My partners car ended up the same way at about 290000K. Too much to do and not worth it and was starting to get dangerous. Went looking for a replacement and finally got one at 82000K but paid more than it was worth and insurance only covered it for $2000 less than what we bought it for. Still it is what it is and unfortunately in today's environment you dont have much choice. At least someone offered $600 for the old car so that was a bonus Im in Australia so no different than anywhere else in the world everything costing us a lot more

    You could've converted it to manual to solve that problem - unless you're lazy and prefer slushboxes.

    • @LucoreAuto
      @LucoreAuto 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually not a TERRIBLE idea and something we are actually looking into. Possibly swapping into a beefy manual transmission to handle a bit more power...?
      Piling on the additional work the engine needs now is really what tipped the scales though.
      Will also admit to a tiny bit of laziness 😉

    You may not have overpaid for the second 940. The market price for these used Volvos is going up. And it won't come down.
    And you don't do anything more interesting than the old Volvos. You will grow attached to these stout reliable machines, and if your wise, you will not part with them.
