This has got to be the most deeply moving song I've heard from Icehouse, and certainly way up there when considering every artist ever, due to the range of sounds exhibited.
The song was never "officially" released as it was supposed to be on the album "Bi-Polar Poems" that should've come out over a decade ago, but Iva has no plans to release the album as he's basically said he's moved on from it ...
I wonder how many people--like me--have been playing this alongside David Bowie's "Lazarus" from his new album. Both songs are powerful...comforting to know that artists like Iva Davies, Gary Numan and Grant Lee Phillips are around to carry on the creativity and artistic vision Bowie left us.
Last I read, is that Iva doesn't want to revisit the album ... He doesn't think it'd be enjoyable to listen to ... I think this is actually a GOOD time to release the album ...
+seattlesix6 I think we need to start a petition to get Iva to release B.P, the songs I have heard are just pure genius and wipe the floor with the crap I have to listen to at work on Radio 1. Yes it's definitely a good time to release this!!
Chemicals / Big House / Surgery / Your God, Not Mine / The Lazarus / West Eleven Genius are all amazing ... and they do NOT sound like Iva wrote them in 2001 ... They sound like they could've been written in the past few months ...
+seattlesix6 The very best music always seems to go beyond its age and genre and seamlessly able to cross the divide of race, religion and politics. Iva certainly has the gift of writing amazing songs that are both timeless and easily able to cross those personal divides, let's hope he comes to his senses and releases all the material he has created over the last fifteen years!.
195Bucks Here's a great interview that Iva recently did ... He knows his music crosses generations / continents ... au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/entertainment/a/30345852/iva-davies-ice-house-at-castelli-estate-denmark/
+seattlesix6 Thankyou for that!, it's great to see that Icehouse has become such an iconic group and their music has been discovered by the younger generations, maybe that will inspire Iva to release something new...shame he didn't say anything...nether-the-less an interesting read!..looking great aswell...would love to meet him!(and see them live one day!). Much appreciated my friend!!...if you hear anything please let me know!.
@zoohead23690 "my instinct at 'the moment"...this hints to me that Iva probably will complete and release the songs eventually, but perhaps after he has written some other new material. Either way, it all bodes well for us doesn't it ;-) Thanks for sharing those insights.
Interesting that one of David Bowie's last recordings was called 'Lazarus'. I'd have loved to hear a collaboration between Bowie and Iva Davies (Iva has been compared to Bowie by some.)
