The Shimakaze isn't, not by a wide margin. The vocal minority hate CVs the most. Not one in particular, but all of them, because the haters couldn't even name each CV let alone tell you the differences between them.

Ironically Shimakaze is one of the worst TX DDs in WoWS PC cause the game has been out a lot longer, everyone knows to anticipate torps and lot more radar DDs lmao.

I don't hate it because it is powerful, I hate it because the amount of players in it that are awful is shocking. Shimas sailing into radar range then sitting in smoke is so common.

This is my complaint. Being a DD main. But low tier mainly.....because of excessive radar and sonar on Cruisers at higher tiers. I'm the low tier casual DD guy that likes to contest caps. I can't do that when I get an aggressive as fuck cruiser coming in balls out just to pop his radar last minute when I go dark to fucking nuke me like a cuck. I don't own any of those radar cruisers because I don't pay to win. I don't pay at all. SO HOW THE FUCK am I supposed to learn which cruisers have radar and which ones are safe to be around?? I only hop in this boat once in a while to try to grind out the premium supply bonus. Other than that, it goes unplayed.
@murdockdacoon2055 most radar cruisers are available in the tech trees so don't require payment. The lowest tier is Tier 5 Budyonny. I know you prefer playing DDs but playing the Budyonny would give you a good sense of the capabilities of radar cruisers.
High tier Russian, US, and some British cruisers get radar. Pan-Asian and pan-Euro DDs can get it. Giuseppe Verdi and Missouri have radar too.
If you put 'wows legends radar family' into Google and check the image results there should be a graphic that has the radar ranges and durations on. It might not be fully up to date but it should help.
One last note, I get preferring one class of ships over others but playing all of them is a great way to improve your overall game. I hated BBs so ground out all of the tier 5s, it made me appreciate them and improved my play in other classes. Do what you want but just wanted to share my experience.

I really enjoyed watching Tbull and it's obvious from what we see on the seas that instructional content is still needed (if players can be bothered to watch it). Don't get me wrong I like your style as well and I watch a wide range of Legends contributors. I've been playing since launch but in a game like this there's always something new to learn, some new angle. GG Derka👍

I think the problem is that only a small portion of people who play wowsl want to get better. This is a game that is very casual for most players. I don't think the progression systems or monetization schemes do much to hook new players to play as anything other than casual

Instructional content isn't needed.
Why?
There's already enough out there from the likes of Tbull, A A Ron, Xarkun, Metajerk, and others to create an entire university.
Secondly....this game is very, very repetitive. It lacks depth which can create boredom and boredom breeds casual play and casual play breeds lack of commitment.
What Tbull realized, as his frustrations became more evident in his final year to year and a half, is that ya can't make enough people care to change the perception or daily experience.
The game, as you know, is 5 years old now. I've been playing this for almost 4 of those 5 years. The complaints that I heard from Tbull and others in 2021, were repeated in '22, '23, and '24....and they will be repeated yet again in 2025 and 2026.
Every content creator that's focused primarily on WoW:Legends has been instructing and we see the same results every year. The game is a niche kind of game thats dominated by a casual player base that likely has a fair amount of turnover.
After almost 4 years, I've found it best for myself to just play and just like Metajerk, chuckle or laugh at what I see happening, and know/accept what I can control out there in the water...which is why I still play though not quite as often. The evidence has demonstrated that it is not going to change because of this issue along with Wargaming's questionable attention to quality and monetization in which the latter has caused much cynicism not just in this game but in internet gaming as a whole.
@@moonytheloony6516 that's all we can do, chuckle and laugh....and maybe hold myself a cry a little too 🤣 today the Jager that spawned with me was having a rough go. 1st he was AFK for a minute as I sped past him in my Kansas on Warriors path. Then i watched on the mini map as he in correctly judged sailing around the island at spawn and got stuck 😆 Then he reversed for a minute or so back to the spawn. By this time our Baltimore on my flank was dead and the reds had a fun time at my expense 😅 it is what it is
Speaking facts with TBull. Having a guy pumping out up-to-date videos with beginner play-by-play was a godsend. I started last year during the Pommern campaign and would legitimately sail in a battle line or sail circles around my CV for my first 500 matches 😭😭

I actually feel like you do something way more important that a lot of other WoWS tubers don't, and that's explaining your gameplay. People can show me where to shoot for dev strikes all day or give me the "best in slot" builds all they want but if i can't understand the process or the why, it's all for nothing. Knowing not just what youre doing hut WHY you're doing is so important in games like this

Tbull was great for helping newer players (and some not so new) understand the game.
There’s really no one (that I know of) to fill his shoes now that he’s gone. And we’re probably worse off for it.
*shrug* I don't play her often, but I've no issue with the Shima and, while I do have my moments, I don't consider myself moronic either. She's simply convenient for some people to hate, being easy to acquire AND being the top-tier for Japanese DDs which, as you may have noticed, are mainly all about stealth and torps anyhow.
Btw, my Shima is equipped in the usual ways except for Enhanced AA. I just seem to have extremely good luck with her when trawling for aircraft shootdowns. Go figure. :)
I've returned after a sabbatical as I told you I had a very bad wifi out in the rural area but I'm now on satellite and is making a huge difference 😊😊

Almost everyone who plays DDs play it to farm BBs. They don’t spot, they don’t contest caps. They don’t fire guns at enemy DDs. A good player however do all those things above and that what makes them hated, not a poorly play one.
some of them take that no guns part very seriously I could probably make a 10 min video of DD just sitting there getting obliterated by another low life gun boat refusing to use their guns no matter how vulnerable their enemy was it’s as if those guys don’t even know that their ship has guns or how to use them
@@outrider425 i guess im different because of the time and the place where i have to shoot because if i do the i could get lit up by a Crusier or worse a German battle cruiser but yeah i go spot and take caps help out my team with spoting the enemy team and sometimes falling back when it comes being the only side with my whole team going to the opposite side.

BBS can’t contest caps when a DD exists and is spotting them
With perks that literally make incoming fire less accurate, to compound the inaccurate guns of bbs, you THINK people aren’t shooting at DDs but they’re just missing all the time and being shot while looking for the DD and getting farmed by the team while trying to fight literal ghosts in smoke, is actually what farms BBS in those instances.

I'm definitely praising the researchable US Tier IV-X DDs, Tier V-X CLs, Tier V-X CAs, Tier VI & VII BBs, Tier VIII BB Kansas, Tier IX BBs Iowa and Minnesota, and Tier X CV Midway. As well as the premium Tier V CL USS Marblehead, Tier IX BBs Missouri, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Tier VIII CVs Yorktown and Hornet. All of these ships are perfect because either I've played WWs as them or with any of my teammate (s) as them. I despise yet also praise the researchable US Tier VI & VII BBs because despite their annoying top speed and maneuverability, they're actually really fun to play as.
As a PC Version Player this is a rather interesting perspective and it's kind of weird to see Shima as a target of discontent...
I think it's been a while since I last heard someone seriously complain about her.
Sure it can be a bit annoying as a BB and occasionally you get a Lemon hunting for BBs on A Line, but compared to HE Spam, CVs and Submarines the PC Version Perception of Shima is about as neutral as can be
As a PC Warships players its crazy to see people complan about shimkaze of all DD.
Shima probably is now just on reputation alone but I would argue pre nerf Ark Royale was more broken (and that was long before the CV rework that made all cv's broken to some extent to the point wg had to reel them back in slightly).
DD’s are the strongest unit in the game. It can counter every other class. Exception being Carriers… but they can even kill those… so they’re even.
It’s good to learn more on the perspectives on how to play DDs. I tend to be reliant on DD torps as with many gunboat situations, I tend to get overwhelmed during dogfights.
I happen to champion the use of LEONE, very fun ship, though I enjoy her mine-like torps over the gun set-up (which is good BTW)… wish she’d get a buff allowing a THIRD torp salvo.
With gunboats, I haven’t found my niche just yet, however CHARLIE HUGHES impressed me quite a bit ❤ as a gunboat.
Not sure about legends, but PC wows shima is good because it’s low detection. The guns while low fire rate have high alpha and set fires constantly
I know my Wiemar gets alot of hate you can feel the whole enemy team target you when you get spotted. I love it

I have that space camo for shima and yet. I still dont like how easy is to play even with the nerfs, I'm not a dd main myself and i did big damages with it, prove that doesn't require much skills.
I did 287k with the rental shima long ago. And it is a understandable statement to not play this thing. Id rather play radar meme-o-taur for spiciness over this👌🏼

Shimakaze is a ship that requires focus. You've gotta spot. You've gotta zone your torpedoes. You've gotta deny areas. Don't get spotted. Seems easy on paper, but it actually isn't as easy as you might think. (This is why some players suck)

One of my close friends (Tr Capper) that I went to high school with is a very very very casual player. Like a game or 2 every few months, usually while holding one of his kids and putting them to sleep type thing. He holds the BXP record for Shima on Wowsbuilds.com with 5250 BXP 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 He just logged in to play a game one day and that happened. I think it sums the difficulty of playing Shima up perfectly.

First rule of playing DD -- don't die in the first 5 minutes of the game!!! Second rule -- SPOT for your team (play selflessly)! Third rule -- cap bases (but again, don't lose your ship trying to cap a base if the situation is not good). Fourth rule -- hunt other DD's (but don't die in an engagement, try to stay near some support ships)! Fifth rule -- spam BB's with torpedoes (but don't chase them to the edges of the map unless they are the only remaining ships)!

I hear what youre saying on the 'instructional' content and i agree. A A Ron does it too. I get why, but ive played as many if not more battles then most CC's and also back in PC days.
Theres definitely a need for it. Maybe have dedicated imstructional video's for it though.

Teamates hate Shima (they tend to go for damage only) and the red tem hate her as well (no skill torps everywhere). The only ones that love Shimas are the skilled gunboats and the carrier mains.
German battlecrusier sonar mains love seeing any destroyer in range of their secondaries.

I quit back in 2022 for good. I mained DD and it was absolutely INFURIATING at the start of every match the BB's immediately reverse to the back of the map and the cruisers go hide behind a rock.
Here I am trying to spot, defend myself against other DD's , cap points and hold the line. It seemed like every FUCKING GAME was me vs the entire enemy team.
I have countless videos of me pretty much soloing the entire enemy team while my teammates are either going out their way to die doing dumb shit or all my idiot teammates are getting torped to death by the enemy DD's in the back of the map.

I don't really have favoritism towards one ship or another, I just like ships that have a unique play style like the Yamato being THE sniper ship.
The only mouth breathers in the game are those who sail in straight lines and allow torps to hit.
I think a lot of the problem is that people come across a ship they cant handle and either dont have the capability to adapt/ re-think their strategy or just don't want to so instantly shout, 'NERF IT'. What they dont realise is that nerfing has a trickle down affect; if you nerf one, you have to go down the line in some way to keep the balance. Every ship has a weakness that can be exploited if you are willing and able to do so. It's just a sign of the times that prople want what they should for work for without working for it.
Except aircraft carriers, in my opinion they are for people with a lack of situational awareness and cognitive ability to play a true warship; harsh opinion.... maybe. But my opinion none the less 🤘

Glad I'm not alone! I would love to see a game set up with 7 Shimikazes against anything. Damn things don't have to move. Just line them up across the board and pump out continous vollies of 24 torpedos with near infinite range and speed that never miss. Arghh!

Even with SBMM you will still get spastic teammates… it doesn’t work.
The #1 reason why it'll never happen is because this game has way too low of a population as is. At either extremes of ELO, lobbies would take forever to fill up, and as a F2P game, the longer it takes means the more likely someone is to quit. Wargaming wants people in and out of matches as quickly as possible.
You are contradicting yourself, if you’ve experienced “Cod” as an example and its SBMM it’s terrible….that being said right now it feels no difference with matchmaking it never feels truly random

They could tag it on the end of ranked rather than close the season once you reach rank one.
If you run the new IJN CL commander you could run the short range torps, decrease the detectability, and still have 9.something torp range. Just saying lol.

You got it wrong. I hear everyone talking about California being the most hated ship. On console, it is a tier 5 with the stats of a tier 6.
If I play a gunboat I spot, kill DDs, and take caps. If I play a torpedo boat, I spot, try to take caps, and spam torpedoes for area denial. You can guess which is more satisfying.

You can also spam HE at enemy ships, some gunboat DDs can shoot behind islands forcing the island camping ships out of their spots or even open water harassment just gotta pay attention where turrets are facing and how many ships can target you and some other DDs you can just overpower them easily so you just pick a fight with them up close and personal.
“And their team from C is going to head to the mid.” Thats the smart thing to do, but I’ve seen too many games where players remain in the cap even though there is no longer any threat. Not sure if it’s timidity or literal mindedness i.e. “defend the cap”.
Mirror exactly what I did in this game. Spot 1st, contest caps, set up torpedo cross fires with your team

Behold the essay that no one probably cares about, just my line of thought having played with many different kinds of people on both PC and Legends (mainly PC though)
The thing about Shimakaze in both Legends and PC is that it's a ship that requires good timing and precise positioning. You can always say that it takes no skill but the ability to predict and lead targets for over 30 seconds is no joke even if those projectiles tend to hit like a nuke and are invisible until you get into a certain vicinity of them. The thing that makes these Shimakazes hated are the players who use them poorly and the bad players they go against. That maneuver Colombo made to push into a cap was a rookie mistake, you don't do that in a battleship when you don't have the adequate support to back it up, much less do it against a class of ship that obviously hard-counters battleships for a reason most of the time. Furthermore you don't take a battleship and sail close to another battleship, that's always a death sentence considering there's always a class that'll have their mouths watering for battleships. Another notable thing is that a radar cruiser should've always kept themselves close to an island unless their position was COMPLETELY compromised. Those are the expectations of the proper scenario vs what you see in both Legends and PC WoWs. Yet the kicker there is that if you play it properly, you give the community a completely different reason to hate the ship. That's cope. They can't perform as good as the individual who just beat them, which they can't accept and so they resort to publicly announcing their hate for it, and then it continues so on and so forth.
Well I care, and honestly very well said 😀 I think you're 100% right. My true hate for this ship is not the giga chad, it's the players that have no clue what they're doing that are sailing around in it. Thanks to the way our bureau project is set up, complete noobs could be (and probably are) behind the wheel. As I say, Shimakaze is very likely the most unreliable DD you could ever have on your team. Cheers man

There's a lot of radar at legendary tier, and even more sonar. I found that most players are weary of torpedoes and it takes some level of ability to get hits. Spamming out all 15 torps just to get one hit is a slow way to accumulate damage.
I miss T Bull too. I hate shimas too. But a good one will spot and torp everyone.

I played this ship actually 14 games lol i didnt realize i played it so little. I have many games in Khabarovsk and gearing mostly Khabarovsk. I agree with u . Shima jager and z44 . They never spot and or hide baxk line or get killed in 30 seconds.

DD is super super important but to be honest it is SO RARE to see CCs play them. I think there is not a single CC that is a DD main.
I can sum that one up for you (at least for me personally). I Don't have the luxury of spamming a single ship or ship class (being a main). If I want to make content that people want to watch, it's about variety. And with around 500 ships in the game that's lots of different ship playing.
From a creation standpoint, if a CC were a DD main, and just made Destroyer videos, then only people who wanted to see destroyers would come to their channel. They would effectively be cutting their audience into fraction of what it could be.
check out Blackpriest! He is pretty much exclusively DD and gives great tutorials on DD play!
I’m convinced that 60% of the player base doesn’t watch “how to” videos because everyone thinks that they’re playing the right way. I saw a player in a Montana yesterday spamming HE yesterday from behind an island yesterday. They’re always the ones in game chat yelling at people 😂😂

10:24 speaking of the minotaur radar, there's this really nasty build around it... If you have the Transformers colaboration commander Hot Rod, you can have a radar that last for, 4 more seconds !! And recharges about 160 seconds, which is 20 seconds faster, if you also use the legendary ability to have consumables faster around teammates, you can have one radar in less than a minute after using it, it's insane

Try the stealth radar Minotaur. Rader range is longer than your spot range. You get spotted, crack that radar and watch the DD player actively poop themselves. It's a meme build to run with a DD player in your division that works a lot better than people would think.
You should make a video about the Brisbane torps. 10 on each side with 13km range and tube by tube. Its wild.

I actually feel this way with al chapayev, with mainz ce coming in a close 2nd. These boats are like a mosquito that's in your house and you can only kill them after an enormous amount of effort. Jager is starting to climb this ladder quickly though. Damn these boats!

Yes, it's very hateful, but once I saw those destroyers, I melted them with my kleber. The shimakaze doesn't really contribute to the team, it only torpedoes and once it runs out of torpedoes the destroyer is no longer useful, because killing other destroyers and more so in that tier is very bad, normally all the cruisers can also beat it. . . . . and against battleships, all destroyers KILL Battleships
It's funny how when I first got to LT shimas were so intimidating but now you see them and think "well at least that DD will be gone quickly"

Big debacle over fleets. He had plans for people to pay to be in his fleet (fleets*** he was going to have several). Of which he would go and play with his fleets and all of those members. Wargaming said that was against the agreement we have as official Community Contributors. Tbull said that's bullshit. Neither side budged so Tbull left the CC program and the game. He made Startfield content for a bit than hung it up looks like

Honestly in my opinion, I would find myself holding more hate for ships like the minotaur. Sure, the shima can be annoying, especially if there's say 3 or even 4 of them on an enemy team, but I'd rather deal with torpedo spammers over fire setting spammers. Because at least with torpedo's there's the option of maneuverability and radar to spot them early, whilst mino shots aren't very easily avoidable.
BB steams ahead in a straight line at a constant speed then complains when hit by torps. Pretty much describes majority of LT gameplay. I understand that kind of thing at the lower tiers when you're learning how to play the game, but seriously, you REALLY should know better. Oh, and the irony of someone in a C. Colombo complaining about another ship was priceless.

I saw a shima get 140k and 2 kills. In one torp salvo. This player skirted the map, contributed nothing for spotting or caps, and did roughly 225k. We lost by cap. I hate the shima and I hate shima players. It is a 0 skill ship and encourages terrible positioning. I quit WOWS after that match. Almost 2 years ago. I still like watching your vids, but DANG am I happy I no longer play this game.

If Legendary Tier played as expected (only experienced players), the dislike of Shima would be less. However, since Legendary Tier often has inexperienced players, naturally there are issues both with inexperienced players using the ship and inexperienced players on the receiving end of the ship. As an experienced player, I have no issues with Shima, especially on the receiving end, because they usually will have to work to take me down. The same tactics I use against experienced DD players work against inexperienced ones. Until all red DD's are sunk, every blue BB player should assume they are the priority target and sail accordingly.
If only Shima were locked behind having to play Yugumo in the bureau. But alas...
Can't agree more on the dd campaigns. Those are always the worst. That's usually when I play more dd, just to try and off set the crappy dd players. But I'm just a meathead with a controller so I usually join them at the bottom of the sea 🤣

Thats probably the #1 reason why I dislike seeing them on my team, much like Yamatos and smoke Minotaurs you know what the players are going to do, and if you get more than one in the team then you're probably boned...

Shima at the end of the day is just a one trick pony. If its left alone it will be annoying. But its really easy to remove them compared to other destroyers.
If you played this ship on PC you would get slated for using the noobtubes. You can see them from the moon. Try playing with the 8km or the 4km torpedoes and show some skill.

No skill in a shima, true when you face no skill BB players and lets face it. Most of the time you do just that.
Shimakaze is fine, I don't play mine often enough but when I do play it I am still surprised how many dumb BB or CC players that sail in a straight line. Players that do not adjust for hidden DD's make the Shima easy to play.

I would personally say the Tier III-VII researchable US battleships because they're extremely slow, bad maneuverability, horrendous concealment, and God-awful torpedo protection. The researchable US Tier VI & VII BBs don't actually have the God-awful torpedo protection, it's just that their garbage top speed of 21 kts and meh maneuverability makes them really difficult to dodge torpedos. But I do enjoy using them to ram clueless enemy cruisers, destroyers, and battleships, snipe unsuspecting enemy ships at almost point-blank range, and dishing out quite a lot of citadel hits on any enemy cruiser, battleship, and carrier that doesn't even notice me. Also, I give a positive review for the ability to equip depth bombers with the researchable Tier VI & VII US battleships. I'm personally a huge favorite of the researchable Tier IV, V, & VI Italian BBs because of their good speed, maneuverability, concealment, and rather accurate aa guns.
Shimakaze is not the most hated ship in world of warships. There are Carriers and Pig Boats that are hated more.

I’d say Hayate is on the same level of annoying. Can almost rival Shima on the level of torps, but has way better guns, and health so it can gunboat and torpboat.

I barely see any Hayates in game, never seemed too popular, even when it was sold for 2 million free XP back in the day. Probably the rarest tier 10 DD in my experience.
