    Sounds really nice! I'm also a fan of the 1-2 year updates.
    I've been wanting to check out a Slick guitar for years and still haven't, but it might be about time.

      I keep trying to talk myself into selling them off. Then I make the giant mistake of plugging them in and giving them another go-around. They’re truly incredible. I’ve one more Slick to review for another 2-year, which I lent to Max to let him unbox it on camera years ago.

      @@11thFret Honestly the biggest issue with budget guitar brands, especially the ones that sound good and are fun to play, is they have poor resale value. Which is why it's so expensive reviewing these things. But at least it's fun!
      I have 10 sitting here that I need to finally list for sale and ... I will do it ... soon ... ish. 🤣

    • @11thFret

      @ArtOfShredYT Yup. Awful resale. That’s why I started focusing a lot more on trading instead of selling. It’s still an uphill battle, but less so than trying to get cash. Plus, trading avoids that newer ridiculous $600 IRS law.
      Pro-tip (and somewhat unrelated): If you use OfferUp or another classifieds site that isn’t Craigslist, always drop the price of the item you sell to $1 before marking it sold. OfferUp will report your “earnings” to the IRS if you exceed $600 per year. So if you trade or sell for less than your marked price, always adjust your ad before marking it “sold”.

      @@11thFret interesting! I've never used OfferUp, but I also don't have an issue with the tax rules. I have an EIN and track & report all revenue & expenses whether the websites (Reverb, Sweetwater GearXchange, Craigslist, etc) do or not.

    I got an SL 50. All I did was upgrade the pot the tuners and gave it a nice fret job. It's a very stable great playing guitar.

    Some have found that the bridge is too far down in the body.
    J-Man found that the nut was too high in the action was too high.
    Both of these things were solved by a small shim.
    The pickups are fantastic and the brass bridge is amazing.

    • @11thFret
      @11thFret  หลายเดือนก่อน

      My nut and action are great with mine. But yes, as the owner of this guitar and an SL54 (pre tremolo version), I do struggle with the bridge being recessed into the body. It makes intonating, let alone changing strings, way less fun.
      But beyond that, yes, the pickups and the use of the brass bridge add so much character. I love both a lot.

    I bought some slick strat pickups that were amazing for the money. Definitely wouldn't shy away from any slick products

      I couldn’t agree more. I just wish Slick would offer showroom quality goods instead of only relic. That’s pretty much my only criticism. Outside of that, these are nothing short of incredible.

    I've considering one of these for a long time but I wasn't really sure about it because I couldn't try it. Then I bought a Warwick shortscale bass and all my guitar purchases had to be postponed xD I wonder how they compare with the Sire L3 p90 LP jr style guitars, I think they are very similar pricewise, the body is made from mahogany though. Thanks a lor for this demo :) and sorry if I made mistakes, English isn't my mother language.

    • @11thFret
      @11thFret  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I was very lucky to get my hands on one of these. Sadly, I've yet to try the Sire L3 P90. They've not reached out, and I'm flooded with enough guitars where I've zero motivation to seek one out at the moment. But I can say that of the 4 Slick guitars I currently own, their pickups are something very, very special to me. They all have just a little more push than vintage spec, but not overdoing it to get muddy. The Sire L3 P90 does have the traditional mahogany body for that kind of nod to Gibson and a nice, polished finish. Whereas the SL59 is a rustic looking ash body with a thin layer of automotive paint and no grain filler. Some players get pretty offended over the idea of a relic'd body, but I like it for the sole reason that it feels good to the touch and you don't have to worry about accidentally putting more battle scars on it.
      That said, if you were to get a Slick, avoid their Indigo/Crimson/Black ash finishes. I have one that I've yet to talk about on this channel that is easy to scar and it scars ugly. Get one with a more traditional color and you'll be good. 👍

      @@11thFret Hey thanks for the fast response! I hope I can try one of the Sires someday then, they seem very nice. I was considering the TV Yellow finish anyway so no issues xD About the Slick finish, I like it rustic too, no issues for me neither. Hugs from Spain :)

    I've got the Slick SL55 (the Tele body with 2 GFTron pickups and a 24.75" scale) and really like it a lot. I use it for all kinds of styles of music, including doom metal. Very simple, plays great, looks weird (turquoise blue). But it works, and does what I need it to do. How much noise are you getting from the P-90? I was going to get one of those Slick guitars, but decided to go with a humbucker model.

    • @11thFret
      @11thFret  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the Slick SL55 too, which I need to review. I let GuitarMAX unbox it on his channel before I started doing this. They sound killer.
      As for the P90, it’s about as noisy as any other P90 I’ve played through. But it’s not intolerable for me either since I’m no stranger to playing single coils with heavier dirt.

    When you got it, how were the fret ends and any fret buzz? Philip McKnight was very impressed with his Slick.

    • @11thFret
      @11thFret  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nope. No buzz on mine. I had slight fret sprout on mine when I got it, but was easily solvable with the quick use of a sanding block to also roll the edges.

    I'm very interested in this guitar. I do think I would immediately want to mod with a HB. Can anybody tell me if a humbucker pup would drop in easily with no additional routing? Also I might also want to add a switch to "straight out" bypassing the volume pot. any comments welcome.

    • @11thFret
      @11thFret  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry I missed this comment! It's a wicked guitar. But to answer your questions:
      1.) No, a standard PAF sized humbucker would not fit without breaking out a router. A soapbar style P90 is both taller and more narrow than a PAF sized bucker. Theoretically, a mini humbucker could and should fit. However, if you look at how soapbar P90s are designed, they mount with two screws going through the middle of the pickup into the body. A mini humbucker mounts with legs on the top and bottom of the pickup, usually affixed to a pickup ring. So you might need to do a little bit of careful routing to make room for said legs and then mount a pickup ring should that extra space be needed. Check out GuitarFetish's website for their soapbar style pickup offerings: www.guitarfetish.com/P90s-Soapbars-Mini-Humbuckers_c_593.html
      2.) As far as a switch to bypass the harness, look up "blower switch" or "blower mod". It's one of my favorite mods to do. I usually use a push/pull pot for such a thing, just to make it look clean. Here's an article from Seymour Duncan about it: www.seymourduncan.com/blog/latest-updates/guitar-wiring-explored-adding-a-blower-switch
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @11thFret it's a personal choice. Some folks say that a one pickup guitar sounds better because on a 2 pickup the magnets on the other pickup, even when it's not activated, affect the vibration of the strings
