she is the realest actor or actress that you'll ever meet. there is zero bone of fakeness in her, when asked if she's shy. basically she said if you are going to be an actor, you can't be shy.

She was so right about shy actors. Actors are attention seekers just like pop stars, all they want is people to look at them. She seemed like a straight talking woman who didn't suffer fools gladly, good on her!

Cam`t understand Meryl Streep`s take on BD. `She`d make men run a mile`. NO NO NO. That`s New Hollywood talking. Women who think they have the power but are more rigorously defined than the old stars ever were. Davis had that rare combination of grit, humor and vulnerability not to forget enormous beauty.

@@sandrashevey8252 What. 5:34 Davis says this herself here. That drunken husband would be out of the house if she’d played that part.

Based on Bette saying that she had just played an ex-stunt pilot, this interview must have taken place around 1980-- she would have been talking about the TV film "Skyward", directed by Ron Howard-- just a few years past "Happy Days"!

Sage observations from Bette regarding "Come Back, Little Sheba"; even with Burt Lancaster's formidable presence, you'd bet Davis would've whipped Doc into shape or kicked him out of the house pronto.

she was also offered mildred pierce, and turned it down, which joan crawford ended up winning the oscar for.

I don't doubt it. As much as I love Bette Davis, her performance was awkward and wooden. It's the only time that I didn't find anything redeeming in her performance except that she is Bette Davis-she seemed completely disinterested & underplayed considerably, which Davis seldom did.
It's been said that she wasn't thrilled about being directed by Ritchie and Potsie (I believe he was associated with the film too, but I can't recall) to say nothing of the heat.
...Marion being cast probably wasn't lost on her either, adding to the whole Happy Days correlation. She played well the anxious yet doting Mom in a similar but more serious manner than her Marion Cunningham role.
The young actress in the wheelchair, Suzy Barbieri nee Gilstrap (Julie), was terrific-as was she in a Little House episode filmed the same year. Handsome actor Ben Marley (Scott), was also very good, as was Howard Hesseman. Being filmed in Texas, Mrs. Wygant was as usual spot-on in what there is of her interview...such a sweet and lovely person.
A 40ish, Dallas based English teacher & character actress Irma P. Hall; (Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, Soul Food, Meet The Browns, The Ladykillers, Jayne Mansfield's Car, Patch Adams, Beloved), portrayed the school Principal.
Suzy Barbieri (Julie), went on to become a Producer, Casting Agent, & Production Assistant.
Apparently, a follow-up film: Skyward Christmas, appeared the following year (1981), with Audra Lindley cast in the Davis role.
      👍🏽💯🤔
