I feel like this video is about a little girl who's alone in the world, and the gruffalo is her imaginary friend kind of. She's always with him because he doesn't judge her and they're best friends, she's the only friend he has and he's the only friend she has, so they feel like they understand each other. So she never leaves his side no matter how old she gets because he's always there for her when no one else is, she will stay with him until death (hence the song). That's how I interpreted it, there's many interpretations, I just wanted to express how I saw it :) Made me cry tho.

It would be people, pets, objects, experiences, or somewhere you ever enjoyed and it has become your beautiful memories. So it will remind you no matter how long the time passed. It may make you forget about reality for a while and you will be happy every time you think about it again.
Whoever directed and created this video is incredible. It adds an incredible depth to this already meaningful song. Their use of this “thing” (what looks like a soft, furry beast) brings safety and love to the girl throughout her life, and can represent so much to us. This “thing” may represent a person that has passed away, a past romantic partner, a dream that you never pursued, or a passion that forever lights a fire within. Point being, the “thing” they used is so versatile. We all have something we wish we can “go back and put up a fight” for, whether that’s fighting for one’s love or fighting the fear that told us to give up on a dream. In the end, that idea will follow us until we die, but will always remind us our values and what we love most. Such a beautiful song/video. Whenever I hear this song, I think about a friend that I once had. He and I hadn't talked to each other for years then one day I talk to another friend who knew him, and i find out that he died from cancer. I will never forget him. he was one of my closest friends.
