      Angular momentum(L) is Constant.
      It's moment of inertia(I) decreases and hence it's angular velocity(W) increases.
      L=IW
      I is inversely proportional to W.

      How can you even teach physics to kids without demonstrations? It's practically a requirement. I am surprised at how many people think this is above and beyond. My physics teacher put a bed of nails on his body and made one of his students slam a sledgehammer onto a cinderblock held by the device, and had ketchup under his shirt as fake blood to prank us into thinking he was hurt by it. Among other things. The angular momentum experiment in this video is well-known to the point of being common sense; as I recall most classes let the kids try it out themselves.

The heavier the dumbbell, the bigger the distance from the centre of mass of arm+dumbbell to centre of mass of his body. The bigger the distance, the slower you turn. No it is not. I can assure you, right after the teacher stopped his childish demonstration and started actually writing stuff on the board, all the students probably stopped listening right away.
      His demonstration is fun, that's all it is. What have they learned? Nothing. The interesting part is what comes after, the theory and the math behind.
