You haven't understood the film, the story, the time when France sent young men by force to Algeria to look after the natives. The separation, no news for the loved one left behind in France. The letters that never arrive. Marriage to another. And finally, the return of the wounded young man. Another era you've certainly never experienced, and good for you... Beautiful film. Sad, especially the ending. And, of course, Michel Legrand's marvelous musical composition and the direction of Jacques Demy's masterpiece.
