Your stitching is beautiful, enjoy the process like you say. I wish my stitches were as neat as yours. Wonky stitches, who cares. I like the pinky colour with the fabric dying, and the greeny yellow, we've hot to experiment. You've had a lovely mindful day.
My individual stitches aren’t that neat but when you see it as a whole piece, it looks different and somehow nice😊 so I just kept stitching trying not to see the inconsistency. I’m sure your stitches are beautiful💕💕
Wow what an amazing range of colours and I would never have guessed that the alum would make such a difference to the results. I love the soft colours of natural dyes. Thank you for sharing!
Although I love all the projects you have ever shown and have made several of them, these and the towels are still my favorite projects because of the pure enjoyment of doing the simple stitching. It is like slow stitching using scraps of tiny pieces of fabric. I have been saving my onion skins and now have enough to do a small batch. I love the colors that the red onion skins made and was totally surprised to see the difference after the use of alum mordant. I have tried some dying with using rusting metals but found that the fabric became more difficult to sew through, so I am just using it in small quantities for when I do my slow stitching.
Oh that’s interesting! I haven’t used iron for mordant yet. I’ve been following the same process for everything😅 I also love making towels. It’s so practical and fun. I often make them not just for videos but for my family as well😊
I wonder the same. From my limited knowledge, sometimes you dye without heat but using some vinegar when you dye with flower petals and some other things to keep pink or red colour. I’m not really familiar but there may be some ways. Otherwise, avocado dye is pretty easy to get the colour😊
@@thegreenwrapper Yes, vinegar is really the only thing I use along with iron water. Also I iron everything after it dries, I think it sort of heat sets it. I have dyed a lot of material, cotton, linen and silk that have never faded. My earliest pieces are 9 or so years old. Tho in saying that I care for my cloth and never have it in harsh sun. Thank you for sharing your lovely projects.
Beautiful just beautiful ❤️ I've also saved red and yellow onion skins and some avocados pits. I don't have mordant but I'm thinking (you can laugh😄) to add an aluminum can into the boiling water instead of alum. I let you know how it goes.
I love how your free-hand stitching looks! It’s very attractive. The dye looked interesting. Have you tried using a soda ash pre-soak? I’ve been doing a little research before having a go at tie dye in a few months, and a lot of dyers recommend it to fixe the colour or make it stronger. I’m not sure how that would interact with natural dyes though… (the Mr Tie-Dye channel has better advice than I can offer!) I love how your dyed fabric turned out though! They’re lovely and warm. I look forward to seeing them used in your future projects!
I have been using soy milk for pre-soak (but I didn’t this time as onions usually give pretty strong colour as it is). I usually things from books but I don’t even own any books about natural dyeing yet (I’m kind of scared to step into the deep world of neutral dyeing😆). I am using a basic process which I learned from someone who does dyeing in Japan. It’s so interesting to hear about different methods. Let me know if you tried soda-ash!👍
Hola! Gracias. Recién descubrí ésta técnica de bordado me Fascina. Actualmente buscaba una forma de terapia que libere del stress y he encontrado en éste bordado eso y su belleza. Muy bonito.❤😊
Thank you😊 I made them as towels and handkerchiefs using brand new materials. I always keep one in my bag and my children love them too😊 For cleaning cloths, I use old materials just to extend their life a little. Some of these towels will become cleaning cloths when they are too old and worn-out to use as towels😊💕💕
Both of you projects are wonderful! May I ask , do you use size eight pearl cotton on the cloths that you are sewing? I have a big box of old embroidery thread, would that work to make the cloths, And if so how many strands would you use?
Hi, I use all sorts of thread😊 I personally prefer to use thread without coating. I used 6-ply Sashiko thread for this one, but I used size 8 pearl cotton in this video here⬇️ (the second project with blue and green thread) My night time stitching th-cam.com/video/tdUPn-Hqu1E/w-d-xo.html I used a single strand in it but it depends on the material as well. If the stitches feel loose and moves around too much, I’d use double strands. I hope this information helps😊💕💕
Hi! The best size of a needle really depends on the material. This muslin is very loosely woven so most needles are fine. I used a long and thick Sashiko needle for this particular piece😊
Beautiful stitches and love the fabric colors.

Krásné, moc šikovná.
Thank you😊💕💕
I love both the pre- and post-mordant colors! I wonder if there is a way to retain that red color? Maybe with a different mordant?

Thank you. I find it calming like knitting. I hope you will enjoy it too💕💕
The towels are beautiful. Do you really use them for cleaning? I would not like getting them dirty.
