On other places people noted that this pen looks similar to Namiki Emperor. In my opinion it is significantly better looking pen than the Emperor as it has better proportions (it's shorter), it has an elegant cap band and the translucent models are simply gorgeous.
the emperor looks ridiculous to be honest and I like big pens. I feel the MB149 / pilot 823 / opus bela are ideal sizes for my hand. The Dadao reminds me more of the 149. Ideally, i'd like to be able to switch out a flex or italic nib to the Dadao.
I agree! I have a clear demonstrator Jinhao 9019 with an EF nib and it has quickly become a favorite. I never expected such a big pen to be so comfortable in my hand; my fingers are long but my palm width is average. But it has made holding my other pens feel cramped until I readjust. The nib is very smooth and juicy and the section is smooth and comfortable. I have loaded it with a challenging ink, Platinum Carbon Black, and it starts immediately every time and never skips. The EF nib is more like Western-sized EF, approaching an F, not like the much finer EF of Japanese pens. That huge new converter is indeed revolutionary. A TH-cam pen enthusiast who is an engineer (Doodlebud) measured its volume by weighing it before and after inking and reported a usable ink capacity of at least 1.6 ml. That compares with some piston fillers! The converter screws in snugly - another improvement IMO - and is held immovably at the other end of the barrel by internal struts rising from the sides. So no rattling. The converter does not disassemble, but I expect it to become available separately like the #8 nibs and the smaller x159-style Jinhao converter. Then, if issues ever were to arise, a new converter could fix them more easily than with repairs of a piston- or vacuum-filled pen. There must be some quality control with the nib because I found a trace of blue ink on it as I was washing out the pen prior to its first use. Amazing with such an inexpensive pen. I’m looking forward to seeing where Jinhao goes from here with that nib and converter. I also hope third parties start making compatible flex nibs in this size as well as other nib widths, stubs, and other variants. I would love to see cursive italics and obliques some day. That may never happen, but surely there will be other colors and new models.
Great comments. The Jinhao No 8 nib is starting to be used by other pen makers. I believe I saw them in a few Indian pens. The nibs all have a wider line than other EF, F or M nibs. They certainly are much wider than Japanese styled nibs. As to cursive and stubs, so far the only one I saw was in the Majohn P36- a nice smooth 1.1 stub. But I can't get it to fit with any other pen.
Grazie Vincenzo, per la tua simpatica recensione sulla Jinhao 9019, ti seguo con passione e ti auguro un mondo di serenità stilografica. Un abbraccio dall'Italia da Riccardo Affinati e dal Circolo Stilografico Romano
It looks like a fabulous pen. When I got into the fountain pen "world", I was very reluctant to try any of the chinese knockoff brands. But heard so much positive buzz about the X159 that I had to try one, and it is a good one, if not the same quality as a $100 Sailor. Stepping it up another notch and ordered a 9019 after watching 3 of these positive reviews last night. It's so nice that you can get these so cheaply and not be total trash! Wrist watches have the same chinese copybrand thing, but when you buy a $30 china rolex clone "Luxury gentleman watch clock" you don't expect a good watch, just something that vaguely looks like a Rolex from a distance (and maybe impress someone who has no idea). But these pens seem to be something else. Jinhao seems to be breaking out of the pure clone market and into their own identity, doing proper research and improvements with each new pen they release. Folks were complaining about micro cracks around the pin of the 159's, so they reinforced the top of the pen with vertical fins. Very impressive, listening to feedback and issuing a direct answer to it. Same thing with the extra large converter, why have a tiny converter in a massive pen like this? Let's make an extra large one for the next pen! I will browse around you channel later, heading to work now.
Well, I’m sold … just ordered one via EB, but up to three weeks wait. Priced at under £12 GBP including tax and delivery. Solid Wine Red nib. I have many Jinhao models and have seen their various ranges evolve for the better. They have been listening … big no. 8 nib in a Medium at last! Thanks for your review. First time viewer of your channel … subscribed!
Nice pen. I just got mine. FYI... The TWSBI Swipe also has a large converter. It isn't a screw in converter but it has a 1.65ml capacity and has an international standard opening. It's just too wide for most other pens.
Thanks for this excellent review. It has persuaded me to buy this pen. I also ordered the X159. I am eagerly awaiting their delivery in order to try them out. I was always vary about buying Chinese made pens before but Jinhao appears to have really stepped up its game. I am a relatively new pen collector and I came across your channel by chance. Subscribed!
Greetings from Australia. Brilliant video. Thanks very much. Your videos are an inspiration because I have just ordered this in Burgundy and a Hong dian D5 in green. Another of your great videos.
Just found your channel, new sub. I ordered one of these a few days ago and with every positive review I get more excited for it to arrive. Thanks for a great review.
Hello. Just found your channel (thanks TH-cam). You have a new subscriber! I haven't tried (or bought) a 9019 yet but I like your passion for the pen. As others have said this isn't the first oversize converter. The TWSBI Swipe, Noodlers pens such as the Ahab and many vintage pens use converters that are larger than the international standard. Personally I would like to see Jinhao make a piston filler pen but so far they haven't. I was impressed at how the Jinhao performed in your writing sample. A nice juicy wet nib!
I don't need any more chinese pens, but I hear too many good things about this one. 😄 And Jinhao has always impressed me, even if most of my 991s and 992s have crumbled to dust. I'm gonna see how that big feed handles a zebra G nib for drawing. I don't doubt that the big converter is going to handle a lot of nanopigment ink.
Cool pen. Thanks for the video! I looked up the meaning of the Chinese word "dadao". From what I gather it means to reach, attain, achieve and/or some sort of edged-weapon or sword. I ve seen the word "Avenue" associated with the 9019. ?
Aloha, Noodlers Ahab has a nearly identical size converter. The transparent wine is beautiful, but, I too like a broad or larger nib and my Ahabs can take just about any #6 nib out there. Thank you.
That is a really difficult question. My favorite are the Delta pens. You can get then new Deltas at reasonable prices. Leonardo Officina Italiana also offers an array of choices and they would be top of the list. Gioia and Maiora as well. I would stay away from Visconti and Montegrappa- overpriced and overated.
That's quite a stretch. There are some blatant ripoff in the Jinhao line, but I think this is not one of them. The clip is similar to the Emperor's, but that's just the clip Jinhao has been using on many of its pens.
Buona sera, Vincenzo, bonsoir Montréal, ça roule? Thank you for the lovely review. I agree that Jinhao really outdid themselves this time. I was already quite impressed with the X159 but they really knocked it out of the park with this one. Now all is left is for me to decide which colour to get. Black? Burgundy? Dark blue? One of each? Decisions, decisions! PS: Je suis sûre que tous ces gens qui vous cassent les c***** pour la prononciation des nom japonais sont les mêmes qui prononcent "déjà vu" comme "déjà VOUS" et "Montblanc" comme "MontblanK". 😂
If you are lucky, this pen can write, I received one that was unusable... The quality of each piece of this model varies. He has the same nib as its predecessor which is still not enough. Disappointment as always with cheap products…
Ppl should be empthetic about pronunciations. That being said I have a horrible time pronouncing French... Jherbin, Chivaur... I sound like an idiot and I've heard what I think are authentic pronunciations. My Japanese pronunciation is good and I can learn quickly w/ tips/correction. Italian is tough. I think my Italian friend is playing a prank b/c when he corrects me, I hear him say the same thing i said just he gesticulates more.
@fountainpentherapy Isn't acrylic just a specific type of plastic, which is a very general term? And isn't resin just another word for plastic? Now, 'precious resin' is something else entirely! 🤭
I have been collecting Jinhao fountain pens for years.
This one is their best yet.
I agree.
On other places people noted that this pen looks similar to Namiki Emperor. In my opinion it is significantly better looking pen than the Emperor as it has better proportions (it's shorter), it has an elegant cap band and the translucent models are simply gorgeous.

I would love to be able to find an italic nib for that pen.
why on earth did you think of comparing it to Namiki Emperor…

Very hard to argue! The problem now is that I have a few X159s that I won't use anymore because this pen is better in every way that I can think of...
I know how you feel. However, the X159 is also a nice addition to any collection.
Hand them out to kids. You’ll make their day.

This Jinhao 9019 is really good.... The best Jinhao i have tried!
Abosolutely.
Great pen. Yes , I agree all 10/10. Jinhao is now a great pen company. I recently bought two, and yes , both are 10/10.
Couldn't agree more! I will be reviewing in my next recap the 9019 with the heartbeat nib. I also have a 9016 coming any day now. Stay tuned.

I'll be really happy when they come out with a silver color trim.
Everything else looks good to me.

Beautiful review on jinhao 9019.

These intros are sooo mesmerizing!
Better than any pen marketing advertisement I've ever seen 😊
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you find them interesting!
@fountainpentherapy I ended up ordering one thanks to this video. It will probably arrive this Tuesday.
I just got my pink one today and my goodness, its huge!
Its everything you say it is and I love it 😊

The pen is really nice, I agree.
100% agree this is a great pen, minor complaint is the cap takes 2.5 turns. Pelikan M1000 is
The big advantage it has is its price and now stay tuned for the 9016.
I was watching. This. Video. I w as sad. But the video made me.. Cheered. Thank you.
I am glad you enjoyed it.
Jinhao has come along way. Glad to see #8 nibs at this price.
I fully agree

Its great to write with. But I can't comment on the Zebra G nib. The Zebra nib may be too small for the 9019.

I have a few. I just had too many problems with leaking nibs .
i orderd two of them. i love the design. its a beautiful pen.
I have done the same. However, I noticed that the resin on the demonstrators is of better quality than the solid colors. Maybe its just me.
@@fountainpentherapy my two pens both them are demonstrator. quality is excellent if i consider the price.
How did you get such a wet nib? I bought three of them and they all were dry. Still, I love the pen.
I bought two pens and 3 nibs and all medium and so far they are all juicy wet. Sometimes its the ink. A minor tuning should do the trick.
Can you comparet to pilot 923?
Unfortunately I do noy own a 923
I agree. One problem: on mine (I have two) the clips are still usable, but too stiff.
Personally, I do not use the clips very often. But at times when I need to insert them in a loop in my pen wallet that's where I have a problem

Great review. Love the 9019. I have two!
I think your levels are sounding like they are peeking. Lots of distortion in the sound.
Thanks for picking up the sound issues
TSWBI made an extra-large converter for the Swipe. Still, this Jinaho is a very attractive pen.
Thanks for sharing
May I suggest you to adjust your Microphone gain? It seem to clip a lot.
That is a old video and the problem has been fixed.
🧡 .....do see lead in everything thing you just describe. ........... I could see it.......thank so much ✍️

Namiki rip off!
I don’t see it.
Some would agree with you fully, but others dispute that.
No, the Jinhao x159 is in plastic made, not in resin.
I keep mixing up resin, plastic and acrylic and I know I shouldn't. Thanks for correcting me.
