  • HOW TO MEASURE YOUR STAIRS AND LANDING FOR CARPET - UK
In this video Phil, Brad and Jack will be demonstrating how to measure your stairs and landing ready for carpet.
The most important part of measuring your stairs and landing is ensuring you measure to accommodate the correct pile direction on your carpet.
In this video you will see an easy guide on how to measure a landing, straight stairs, sub / half landing and winders and how to turn this into a plan so that your carpet will fit perfectly with minimal waste.
Once you have measured your stairs and landing you will be able to order your carpet, and cut it down to size.
Check out our other video on how to fit your stair carpet

For L shape halls and landing would you plan it to a 4m wide and then use the waste for the stairs ?

My first measurement for any carpet is parallel to the factory edge/pile/salvage, whether it’s shorter in measurement or not. That way if I give two measurements to my off sider then he always knows the first one is with the pile.
For example my first measurement is down the stair and my second measurement the width.
If I have 4M carpet going in to a 4.5M x 6M room then my first cut measurement reads 6.1Mx4M with a 6.1Mx0.6M fill.
    Hope that makes sense.

Geez boyz ! Measure in centimetres and use graph paper !! So much easier ! Don`t get me wrong,I `ve been in the trade 33 years and started in feet n inches but that was when decent carpet came 12 or 15 ft wide, To find Square yards times the length by the width and divide by 9 ! Metric so much easier ! Anyway I can see you know what you`re doing Happy xmas x

great video lads, im sure it will be helpful for a lot of people, not wishing to be critical but maybe a little tip? try to measure up using metric, its a lot easier and more accurate, then, do your plan as you have done but use a scale rule, cheap as chips from rymans. 1:50 is best.

Measurements in imperial units - aagh! Why, when I'm sure you were taught metric at school? It's so much easier to use metric units, and carpets are sold in metric measurements - 4 m and 5 m widths.

It’s strange we use metric for everything but we where taught imperial with carpets so it’s habit 🙈

Alternatively rip the carpet up and measure the old carpet 😂

Informative but irritating. I'm yet to watch a telly program where the cameraman butts in cos he knows better.
