Maia v dilo is my new favorite matchup! It feels so nicely balanced and incredibly chaotic! Makes me so excited for future additions and how their different matchups will feel!
@@dinometta im just hoppen they dont do anything too crazy in the comming days. as from the looks maia has a capasity of defence to speed that allows it to survive the bigger preditors but the turn capasity making it vonerable to more agile or in dilo's case, night orinted attackers due to the nv (though i guess we will see once you play as em a little as i will let things get stable before testing it out given my pc is a grandparent in age.) but with heards everythings in your favor and maia really lives to this off if you can put a good formation and get a stun attack off, your proably gonna be able to have a FEW flury of blows done on a target to make them regret dealing with the heard. but as you prove heards only can do so much if your lagging behind.

I started hunting maias as Utah after testing it out for it's strengths and weaknesses and these fights are probably the most fun I've had on this game this year. It send me on a nostalgia trip back to legacy and early evrima combat (when Utah pounce was completely bugged and you had to take targets down just with bites). I really like the addition of Maia! The hordetest ofc still has its bugs and needed polishing and tweaking but this is probably the most balanced addition of a dinosaur this game ever had. Edit: if youre gonna comment that im crazy for my opinion (which is also shared by a bunch of other people) then take a step back and read the follow up comment I made explaining the perspective I'm coming from. If you then still want to comment chances are I'll just ignore it anyway IF it doesnt have potential for a good conversation. Thank you ;)
@@ArchineOne 8/10 Maias dont even use their strongest attacks plus its rather easy to dodge/outplay and I know multiple Dibble players who can fight them just by being smart and knowing their dino. As for "there's no point .. ... ..." for you maybe if you really wanna "force" a meta in a dinosaur game but personally I will always prefer Teno as the better traveler and fighter. Its agility and quick attacks are just way better and more fun to use but to each their own ;) Lastly you dont seem like you've been with the game for as long as some of us have cause you'd know how chaotic or downright broken a new addition to the roster usually is.
That’s such a crazy take. Maia can run down every creature in the game pretty much and can face tank a dibble. You can’t escape it, you can’t fight it. Not in the hands of someone who has an idea on how to use it at least.
Honestly props to the herbivores that do this. Some panic and kind of just defend themselves, even when in herds. They all quickly rushed to beat up the knocked over dilo. 😭🤣
take heart in knowing all of those mixpacking deinos were killed! we had been stalking them, heard y'all fighting them and moved in shortly after you crashed with our own deinos :) another great video metta, always enjoy your survival over pvp brain moments

@@dinometta that too, I have seen kav do It, and I have done It myself solo against a couple of adults, but I'm still not skilled enough on the animal to take on even 2 skilled dilos, I had to run once being on red from a pretty big pack.

yay - I swear. This channel is at least 200k subscribers short from where it should be when "maining" a game this small. The story-mode is tight, the gameplay is expert, the insight at pro-level and it could easily carry this channel to millions of sub had it been main for a more popular game.
7:50, 24:50 idk if its just me but it seems maia's hitbox still needs some tweaking. A lot of your hits seems to not be landing when it looked like they should have. Could also be desync but or maybe issue with dilo? idk. Great video like always regardless!
Your hunger to hunt Maia is how I feel for my hunt for a nest as a Troodon. I want to steal an egg soooo badly. I wish there was some sort of mechanic to tracking nests. I follow Maia around forever and have to leave to find food so I never find people nesting.
i think the devs just need to add more ways for eggs to pop up, asexual reproduction mutation for females? (literally so many fish and reptiles today can, and then theres that vulture that did it…) higher incentive and reward for even doing it in the first place, and ways for people to find a mate for their dinosaur without begging in a discord dinosaur tinder or relying on global chats and scheduled meetups, yeah people will take advantage of the various mechanics that could be made for that but so do predators irl, theres risk and reward and thats where dopamine is made

that beach you left when starving is about the best spawn ive found for dilo. small spawn thats always quiet right there where you jumped, its abit hit or miss though. if you turned left hit the beach and walked back little. up the cove where the fake island bit is, that whole area and the C shape beach north of it, and all the forest upto the road is always teaming with turtles. is the most consistent turtle spawn location on the map that ive found, second would be easy of the swamp beach location. but im new and maybe they weren't spawning for you, looks like you ran around them missing them entirely, just saying ill cross the map to get to that location you swam away from, and sit there until grown. if something comes i will back out to that exact spot you jumped but near the beach and wait for AI to spawn. ive never had anything look for me that far away from the main beach location.
@dinometta that's the inherit risk of growing near predictable AI. I'm always the most immersed hearing the clop of turtles spawning through the time/space rift, as ceras come screeming out from the bushes with all the grace of a falling, tumbling walnut.

troodon can absolutely thrive off maia, it's shifty nature allows it to zig zag the maia's obesity into its advantage, in packs of 6 being able to take down fully grown maias. they finally added something troodon can absolutely murder that is also gigantic on a side note, hunting maia herds as rex will be exhilarating, just waiting in the tree line for one to stray a little too close, knocking them over and getting a clean bite to the neck to dispatch them before it can flee And even a herd of 8 maias cant do much, the attacks are meant to bully small creatures, a carnivore can just eat for once
I'm pretty sure I was hiding in a bush as a baby maia when you were hunting the adult maia 😂 the two ceras came and I followed the adult across the river
I saw you both again later. Y'all walked right over top of me while I was desperately trying to regain stamina to try and run for Highlands, before I gave up on that plan because I was too hungry and had to just keep moving
I really wonder sometimes what the purpose of hordetest is, because once a new dino is introduced in hordetest, the entire server is that one dino, and since there is no actual fights to be had with carnivores or any other dinos, so you just see them all kill each other, happens each time a new dino is introduced on Hordetest. I dont know what the solution would be, but currently its just frustrating to both get on the server, and then actually be able to play and get past the juvi stage.
It's mostly to search for any weird bugs within the build and the new playable. Things like how the pteros now appear and screech above dead corpses, Maia's interactions in massive herds, etc can affect performance and show new bugs they won't want to just push to live
I MIGHT consider playing again with this dino. It’s nice to have a large herb that you can be able to run away from anything with… I don’t like being cornered as solo and forced to fight multiple preds to the death. I would like to know if Maia can out run anything like Cerato, Raptor, Herrera, Dilo, and if it can’t out run Carnotour can it Atleast hold its ground. It’s odd though that it took THAT many bites to get Maia to purple and it wasn’t even an adult yet
So I havnt played this game and only recently found this channel, love it btw. Can someone explain to me the vitriol for mixed packers? Is it just a community nono?
Mixpacking is a problem for overall balance. Basically using a mix of different playables that, when hunted alone(just Maia, just pachy, just raptor) is doable because you know their weaknesses(fast but can't turn, breaks bones but stuns itself when it misses, quick and agile but low HP) but then you add in something that they wouldn't normally exist peacefully with and it makes hunting them or even fighting them now difficult if not impossible. Often mixpackers take the strongest animals like dibble and cerato, stego and deino, and now Maia and deino and mixpack together. Three times now, I've died to deinos mixpacking with Maias, because Maia is a fast swimmer and they hide behind their pet deino in the water or call it in to grab me while they're using the water's edge to slow me down. All that aside, mixpacking used to be against the rules on official servers in legacy because even the developers don't want it to be a thing. They just haven't yet worked out a way to prevent it without straight up moderating the servers 24/7.
I've had them pop out after one round of digging as well as after digging it out entirely, I think it might be RNG on some level. I decided I didn't have the time to keep digging and then catch the thing, so opted to just accept the vomit sickness
@dinometta I literally went straight to buy path of titans cuz I was tired of being kicked out and eating many queques of 45 people and when it didn't crash the Maia just got stuck and couldn't move or do anything so I had to relog and eat some more queque, just to log back and get eaten by a big ass croc on river delta xDDD, and on many occasions my fps literally reach the incredible amount of 2 fps and then crash, this hordetest is being the worst one so far xD
@lolero72campos19 that's strange, because performance wise, this horde test has been one of the best performing in recent history for me. Only had one crash and no major latency or lag issues
@@amosfamous7327 it was incredibly fatal for my dilo. Farmer caught the rest. Pretty much my dilo froze and the deino moseyed on up the rock, grabbed me, and let the Maias pummel me to death
Honestly my first thoughts were "oh boy, ANOTHER big herbivore, here we go again" but I now like their addition. Tbh still not a fan of their one size fits all solution of just slapping a stun onto most herbivores but Maia not having absurd amounts of damage or strangely high bleed makes it acceptable to me. Maia's are definitely tanky enough to compensate for their low damage, you showed that well, and actually feel like all encounters are long drawn out hunts of attrition where the better wins. Also think once maia's aren't bored out of their minds seeing only other maia's that this might be a herbivore most people aren't hyper aggressive on (I can have hopes ok?)
I desperately wish they'd stop with the stuns too. There was a time when they said that stuns interrupted the flow of battle. And a time that stun locks were prevented. Now I feel like we're back to square one where stunlocking is common. I'd like to see the stun problem addressed again
Would it be too extra if dinos killed by dilo venom would leave envenomated carcasses? There would ofc be a timer until the carcass is safe for consumption, since the body will bleed out, but this may allow dilo more advantages.
Ooooh smart idea! Would "reserve" the body for dilos- but would also mean the dilos may become the main target if something hungry comes along (instead of simply being chased off)
Btw it does look like maia has no damage but i somehow managed to kill 3 ceras on my own, not that i did a lot of damage, i just hold them in the ground most of the time, pretty strong on my opinion, can throw any dino ok the floor pretty easy and constantly
@@dinometta that's the thing, I find it easier than dible since Maia is pretty fast and have two different animations for the charge, but the thing is too, that Maia can't see anything on full night time and less against dilos, I guess I was lucky the ceras fought me on early night and they don't have venom, pretty strong counter dilo on night I guess
As soon as you get your second mutation, it starts to work. The hallucinations are just very hit or miss. Sometimes they simply decide to not work unfortunately
Yup, after 20:00 dilo's venom strength increases(it's right after the sky goes orange) and then gets weaker again at dawn(when the sky goes orange again)
They're not nearly as op as they seem. Still incredibly dangerous of course, especially if they land their stomp. But if you avoid getting stunned, they're very killable

Also what editing software/recording software do you use again? How do you edit your videos? Like do you record and edit one video at a time? Just curious because I can usually at max only make a 40 minute video that’s edited due to file space and I also usually take several days to fully edit a video from start to finish, yet you seem to have a video out every week, how do you do it? 🤣
It does now. And I use premier pro. I do one at a time, each week. Record during the week, then edit on weekends and Monday to post Tuesday. It's a lot of work and time to do a video weekly, but I manage it okay as long as I work hard and sometimes long hours on weekends

With great caution and a hope that the devs finally make changes to stuns so that stun locking ceases to be a thing. Their overall low damage outside the stomp and kick makes it doable for now, but once people get better at it, that stun is going to be devastating
It's stomp attack was accidently overtuned by the devs it is STUPID strong. **Shove over** **stomp** **shove over** **stomp** **stomp** = win. Oh and its nightvision is shit!

Most balanced addition? Maia is a 4 ton Carno on crack. It can kill a Dibble with ease. There’s no point in even playing Dibble, Teno or Pachy.

the fight against that giant herd was really impressive, dilo is probably the best counter to maias (aside OP cera), at least during the night.
It is definitely the best counter to Maia. Cerato is easier to hit and stun lock to death because it's slower!

Nests are rare and can last a minute or two. We need 500 - 1000 population servers and vast herds

The herd hunts against Maia are seriously my very favorite experience right now. It feels so chaotic but also so rewarding

that beach you left when starving is about the best spawn ive found for dilo. small spawn thats always quiet right there where you jumped, its abit hit or miss though. if you turned left hit the beach and walked back little.
up the cove where the fake island bit is, that whole area and the C shape beach north of it, and all the forest upto the road is always teaming with turtles. is the most consistent turtle spawn location on the map that ive found, second would be easy of the swamp beach location.
but im new and maybe they weren't spawning for you, looks like you ran around them missing them entirely, just saying ill cross the map to get to that location you swam away from, and sit there until grown. if something comes i will back out to that exact spot you jumped but near the beach and wait for AI to spawn. ive never had anything look for me that far away from the main beach location.
I've grown there once or twice, but I don't often hang out there as I've been attacked by ceratos and raptors there before
@dinometta that's the inherit risk of growing near predictable AI.
I'm always the most immersed hearing the clop of turtles spawning through the time/space rift, as ceras come screeming out from the bushes with all the grace of a falling, tumbling walnut.

troodon can absolutely thrive off maia, it's shifty nature allows it to zig zag the maia's obesity into its advantage, in packs of 6 being able to take down fully grown maias.
they finally added something troodon can absolutely murder that is also gigantic
on a side note, hunting maia herds as rex will be exhilarating, just waiting in the tree line for one to stray a little too close, knocking them over and getting a clean bite to the neck to dispatch them before it can flee
And even a herd of 8 maias cant do much, the attacks are meant to bully small creatures, a carnivore can just eat for once
We just need the stun lock removed and Maia will be pretty well the perfect animal.

I saw you both again later. Y'all walked right over top of me while I was desperately trying to regain stamina to try and run for Highlands, before I gave up on that plan because I was too hungry and had to just keep moving
I really wonder sometimes what the purpose of hordetest is, because once a new dino is introduced in hordetest, the entire server is that one dino, and since there is no actual fights to be had with carnivores or any other dinos, so you just see them all kill each other, happens each time a new dino is introduced on Hordetest. I dont know what the solution would be, but currently its just frustrating to both get on the server, and then actually be able to play and get past the juvi stage.
It's mostly to search for any weird bugs within the build and the new playable. Things like how the pteros now appear and screech above dead corpses, Maia's interactions in massive herds, etc can affect performance and show new bugs they won't want to just push to live

I MIGHT consider playing again with this dino. It’s nice to have a large herb that you can be able to run away from anything with… I don’t like being cornered as solo and forced to fight multiple preds to the death. I would like to know if Maia can out run anything like Cerato, Raptor, Herrera, Dilo, and if it can’t out run Carnotour can it Atleast hold its ground. It’s odd though that it took THAT many bites to get Maia to purple and it wasn’t even an adult yet

So I havnt played this game and only recently found this channel, love it btw. Can someone explain to me the vitriol for mixed packers? Is it just a community nono?
Mixpacking is a problem for overall balance. Basically using a mix of different playables that, when hunted alone(just Maia, just pachy, just raptor) is doable because you know their weaknesses(fast but can't turn, breaks bones but stuns itself when it misses, quick and agile but low HP) but then you add in something that they wouldn't normally exist peacefully with and it makes hunting them or even fighting them now difficult if not impossible. Often mixpackers take the strongest animals like dibble and cerato, stego and deino, and now Maia and deino and mixpack together. Three times now, I've died to deinos mixpacking with Maias, because Maia is a fast swimmer and they hide behind their pet deino in the water or call it in to grab me while they're using the water's edge to slow me down.
All that aside, mixpacking used to be against the rules on official servers in legacy because even the developers don't want it to be a thing. They just haven't yet worked out a way to prevent it without straight up moderating the servers 24/7.

The burrows usally take a while to completely dig out and the tacos only come out when the whole burrow is destroyed in my knowlege
I've had them pop out after one round of digging as well as after digging it out entirely, I think it might be RNG on some level. I decided I didn't have the time to keep digging and then catch the thing, so opted to just accept the vomit sickness

@dinometta I literally went straight to buy path of titans cuz I was tired of being kicked out and eating many queques of 45 people and when it didn't crash the Maia just got stuck and couldn't move or do anything so I had to relog and eat some more queque, just to log back and get eaten by a big ass croc on river delta xDDD, and on many occasions my fps literally reach the incredible amount of 2 fps and then crash, this hordetest is being the worst one so far xD
@lolero72campos19 that's strange, because performance wise, this horde test has been one of the best performing in recent history for me. Only had one crash and no major latency or lag issues

@@amosfamous7327 it was incredibly fatal for my dilo. Farmer caught the rest. Pretty much my dilo froze and the deino moseyed on up the rock, grabbed me, and let the Maias pummel me to death
Honestly my first thoughts were "oh boy, ANOTHER big herbivore, here we go again" but I now like their addition. Tbh still not a fan of their one size fits all solution of just slapping a stun onto most herbivores but Maia not having absurd amounts of damage or strangely high bleed makes it acceptable to me. Maia's are definitely tanky enough to compensate for their low damage, you showed that well, and actually feel like all encounters are long drawn out hunts of attrition where the better wins. Also think once maia's aren't bored out of their minds seeing only other maia's that this might be a herbivore most people aren't hyper aggressive on (I can have hopes ok?)
I desperately wish they'd stop with the stuns too. There was a time when they said that stuns interrupted the flow of battle. And a time that stun locks were prevented. Now I feel like we're back to square one where stunlocking is common. I'd like to see the stun problem addressed again

Would it be too extra if dinos killed by dilo venom would leave envenomated carcasses? There would ofc be a timer until the carcass is safe for consumption, since the body will bleed out, but this may allow dilo more advantages.
Ooooh smart idea! Would "reserve" the body for dilos- but would also mean the dilos may become the main target if something hungry comes along (instead of simply being chased off)
I think it might be a bit excessive simply because dilo venom is pretty dang strong already

Btw it does look like maia has no damage but i somehow managed to kill 3 ceras on my own, not that i did a lot of damage, i just hold them in the ground most of the time, pretty strong on my opinion, can throw any dino ok the floor pretty easy and constantly
Maia's stomp and kick are both devastating. If you can avoid being knocked down, you're golden, but if it knocks you over, you're done
@@dinometta that's the thing, I find it easier than dible since Maia is pretty fast and have two different animations for the charge, but the thing is too, that Maia can't see anything on full night time and less against dilos, I guess I was lucky the ceras fought me on early night and they don't have venom, pretty strong counter dilo on night I guess

As soon as you get your second mutation, it starts to work. The hallucinations are just very hit or miss. Sometimes they simply decide to not work unfortunately

Yup, after 20:00 dilo's venom strength increases(it's right after the sky goes orange) and then gets weaker again at dawn(when the sky goes orange again)

They're not nearly as op as they seem. Still incredibly dangerous of course, especially if they land their stomp. But if you avoid getting stunned, they're very killable

Also what editing software/recording software do you use again? How do you edit your videos? Like do you record and edit one video at a time? Just curious because I can usually at max only make a 40 minute video that’s edited due to file space and I also usually take several days to fully edit a video from start to finish, yet you seem to have a video out every week, how do you do it? 🤣
It does now.
And I use premier pro. I do one at a time, each week. Record during the week, then edit on weekends and Monday to post Tuesday. It's a lot of work and time to do a video weekly, but I manage it okay as long as I work hard and sometimes long hours on weekends

Venom is weaker during the day, but also I was. It just didn't seem to be working on them there
Maias have blind vision. Seriously, I wouldn't call what they have night vision.
Makes hunting them as dilos even more viable. Night time is their biggest weakness

With great caution and a hope that the devs finally make changes to stuns so that stun locking ceases to be a thing.
Their overall low damage outside the stomp and kick makes it doable for now, but once people get better at it, that stun is going to be devastating

It's stomp attack was accidently overtuned by the devs it is STUPID strong. **Shove over** **stomp** **shove over** **stomp** **stomp** = win. Oh and its nightvision is shit!
