I like how you told us your background story of how the tuba choose you
Gary retired in 2019 after 36 years in the Utah Symphony. Extremely impressive work as a tubist.
You don't choose the tuba, the tuba chooses you
cool!!
Alex Madsen hi I play the tuba but I can not affort the tuba can you help me please app me please 0814534999
Very interesting. I too am principal Tubist of a fine Orchestra ...25 years now. That tuba you have there is a beast! Thanks for sharing this video.
what orchestra
$2.25 in 1960 is equivalent to $19.50 in 2020 if anyone was wondering.
...and $22.22 in 2022 (that's a lot of 2's!).
That has such a nice deep tone. I might have been better off playing a tuba.
Well done Gary! What, no cards? I should say I played with Gary in Boston for almost 40 years, since we were students at the New England Conservatory of Music.
Nice job Gary! Thanks for all you do in the tuba world. You are an inspiration!
I chose the tuba in 9th grade. I now work as an engineer but I've got three tubas in my house. The love of tuba can't be set aside.
This is how instrument stories work, either A: you get an instrument and like it. B: you get an instrument you didn’t care about and it became your favourite.
Finally, a good you-tuba
There wasn't two dollars a month for a saxophone but there was money for cigars.
Lol, I mean life and addictions
Great parenting
Will Shank first thing I noticed too!
Classic 1960s
You realize 2 dollars in 1960 is worth 17 dollars in today's money?
In my opinion the Mexican tuba players of Banda and other genre are the best even they are really the stars of those songs "yo se que TE acordaras" for example quite simple harmonically but incredibly clever artistic and fun
Maybe a dumb question, but would a 3/4 Bb tuba be suitable for a senior citizen who would double on tuba who currently plays euphonium at a basic level? The instrument I have my eye on is rotary valve (4 valve) with 0.63" bore.
Yeah, it’s almost the same thing, just bigger, and much more air
I suppose by now you've made your decision, and are hopedly enjoying playing a tuba. I just turned 70 y/o, and bought a Conn 20J tuba a couple months ago. I'm small-framed and skinny, so this tuba is quite a bit to pick up, carry and hold, but I don't have a particular problem with blowing enough air. Assuming you are in good health, I wouldn't expect a 3/4 size to be a problem. I have a euphonium, baritone, trombone and trumpet--all obtained within the last 15 months.
I had seen an offering for a 3/4 size Yamaha, but the bidding shot up much higher than I wanted to go.
can you pls put a link or the name of that mouthpiece or link to buy? fyi i cant spell its name
ya i wanna know what mouthpiece is that.
The name is a "parke ofenloch" mouthpiece
MouthpieceRentals.com - The mouthpiece is roughly $250
The close captioning terribly failed to spell out the name of the mouthpiece, can anyone please write it so I can search it. Google is not helping either, Thanks in advance.
@@towo7100 thank you!
Playing the Tuba takes a lot of practice
Necesito su email para estudiante nuevo tengo darguello es correcto???
For those who don’t know 2.25$ was about 125$ in 1960
Buzzed the wrong side of the mouthpiece XD
hi sir what brand of your mouthpiece?
Parke Ofenloche
Born n raised in Chicago. If you got some black glasses on he looks like Steve Martin. He even sounds like him a little bit
Sometimes I think im the only one who choosed the Tuba ^^

Dayter Potater Same

My friend in California plays the tuba in an orchestra I am a trombonist
LOW BRASS
A tuba is like a bass horn.
Played trumpet before switching to tuba. Would've burned the trumpet.
What mouthpiece is that

I wish I didn’t play tuba. I’ve spent so much time and money to improve, yet I get nothing but one quarter note every two or three measures...
What is that tuba oh my gosh
Good or bad?

No music is NOT universal, that is his white attitude speaking, . Ode to joy means nothing to most people in the world. I still like this fellow TUBA player!!
