Gary retired in 2019 after 36 years in the Utah Symphony. Extremely impressive work as a tubist.

$2.25 in 1960 is equivalent to $19.50 in 2020 if anyone was wondering.

      ...and $22.22 in 2022 (that's a lot of 2's!).

That has such a nice deep tone. I might have been better off playing a tuba.

Well done Gary! What, no cards? I should say I played with Gary in Boston for almost 40 years, since we were students at the New England Conservatory of Music.

I chose the tuba in 9th grade. I now work as an engineer but I've got three tubas in my house. The love of tuba can't be set aside.

This is how instrument stories work, either A: you get an instrument and like it. B: you get an instrument you didn’t care about and it became your favourite.

In my opinion the Mexican tuba players of Banda and other genre are the best even they are really the stars of those songs "yo se que TE acordaras" for example quite simple harmonically but incredibly clever artistic and fun

Maybe a dumb question, but would a 3/4 Bb tuba be suitable for a senior citizen who would double on tuba who currently plays euphonium at a basic level? The instrument I have my eye on is rotary valve (4 valve) with 0.63" bore.

Yeah, it’s almost the same thing, just bigger, and much more air

I suppose by now you've made your decision, and are hopedly enjoying playing a tuba. I just turned 70 y/o, and bought a Conn 20J tuba a couple months ago. I'm small-framed and skinny, so this tuba is quite a bit to pick up, carry and hold, but I don't have a particular problem with blowing enough air. Assuming you are in good health, I wouldn't expect a 3/4 size to be a problem. I have a euphonium, baritone, trombone and trumpet--all obtained within the last 15 months.
I had seen an offering for a 3/4 size Yamaha, but the bidding shot up much higher than I wanted to go.

No music is NOT universal, that is his white attitude speaking, . Ode to joy means nothing to most people in the world. I still like this fellow TUBA player!!
