  • She’s a healer but also like a badass healer y’know so she can like hit things and heal things at the same time…
    Jester being a reluctant cleric is one of my favourite running gags so I wanted to compile all the times she wasn’t too keen on the whole healing thing. I hope you enjoy and please share it around if you do!
    (A few of the clips are very low resolution because they were captured from the mini-cams during a battle scene!)

    Had sometime off from editing but slowly getting back into it! Thanks for sticking around and supporting me, I really appreciate it and hope to have a few more videos by the end of the year!

    Hey All, I am glad you are enjoying the video, I had a lot of fun making it. Please keep in mind this is all in good fun and simply highlighting a running gag amongst the cast. Remember it is their game and they can all play how they like. Anyone commenting hurtful or disrespectful things about the cast or other commenters will be removed. Let's keep it friendly :)

      Utter nonsense. Jester is the cleric of a Trickster god. Why would she prioritize healing? You are making the common mistake of Cleric=Healer. That is not even close to correct. A cleric is supposed to espouse the mission and ideals of their deity. Jester does that very well.
      Sometimes she heals, sometimes she harms, but mostly she sows shenanigans (including in her unhinged Sending spells).
      The part to focus on here is the, "The Cleric" part. That is what is the funny thing: people wrongly equate cleric and healer because of the game mechanics and "optimization," but Jester instead is a genuine cleric of a Trickster god who does not hew to that stupid generalization/assumption.

      This is more true than most people may realize. The maths of D&D works out in a way that damage prevention is *much* more powerful than healing the damage taken. If you can get a shield spell that shields you from up to X or a healing spell that heals up to X - always take the shield.

      Here's the break down:
      Vex only casted 48 cure wound which were low level (due to being a ranger) and 2 lesser restoration and 17 potions (mostly for herself) while Jester has already done 1321 hp of healing (including 79 cure wound 2 prayer of healing 1 mass healing word 1 mass cure wound) during this campaign not to mention other status removal like the greater restoration to remove petrification or revivify to raise Cad. What's impressive however is that Cad with about 22 episode less already did almost 4 times that.
      Keep in mind that campaign 1 rules were different too which allowed people to heal much more easily. Potions were a bonus action and you could cast 2 spells within a turn. But she most likely healed more than Scanlan who used about as much healing word as she did cure wound (surely at higher level but it's 1d4 vs 1d8) and she most likely healed close to as much as Pike due to Ashley being Ashley (meaning being here half the time like she is in campaign 2).

      let's say, for example, your character is married to another character, pc or npc, and that other character goes down, the normal reaction shouldn't be, "i'll just hold off the enemy long enough for someone to get them up". that would be the optimized way to do it, but your character wouldn't do that, they'd fucking take off towards their spouse and shove a healing pot down their gullet.
      optimization is alright, but it shouldn't come before story telling imo.

    I think Jester and Caduceus being in a party together actually highlights why Cleric is such a strong and versatile class in 5E. You can fill a whole slew of roles if you specialize right with your domain and prepared spells, and really augment to your specific playstyle. With Cad joining the party, she’s actually able to hone in on DPS, Debuffing and Crowd control, while Caduceus can do Sustain and Healing. It’s no wonder the Mighty Nein are such a pure unit when you have a main healer and a battle healer at the same time.
    It’s also nice that it gave Laura the chance to actually play her way. You could tell Pre-Molly that she was frustrated in her limitations. In campaign 1, her original choice was Rogue, but she allowed Liam to take it(or I think he got first dibs), then with Campaign 2, she was originally gonna be a pact of the tome Fey warlock, but since Travis wanted to be one really badly she opted out of that too. Both times though that has actually given her an interesting story addition, such as Trinket or Artagan being a complicated deity/patron relationship. I think it’s worked out but I hope she gets first pick for sure next Campaign.
    As a side note, it is interesting that according to CritroleStats, Cad has double the average healing of Jester, but jester has been responsible for all but 1 resurrections, and pulled off that wild feat of sewing back together the sage of Cad’s family, without breaking them and bringing them back to life. So she’s most definitely a lifesaver.

      Zero primary healers, one class capable of casting healing spells. Jester / Laura didn't want the role of "healer". (Which is fine; clerics are good at other things.)
      In Caleb they had a Wizard in the support/debuff role who did a lot to prevent incoming damage (e.g. Slow, or the earthen claw spell he used early on to restrain enemies where they could be picked off without being able to melee anyone.)
      But with that many party members, and nobody with feats or a bard to boost short-rest healing, you still want some healing spells. And especially at low levels, you might need some in-combat healing to pop someone back up.
      Campaign 2 definitely had a party-composition problem before Caduceus. It sucked for Laura that she got stuck as the one party member even capable of casting healing spells when she didn't want that to be her primary role. Off-healer / backup sure, that's something she did very well, and using spells like Command or Banishment to reduce incoming damage by taking one enemy off the board while they dealt with others.
      If she'd wanted to play a character that liked healing, and chosen her subclass to boost that (e.g. Life domain cleric), that could have worked out. But it's still a single point of failure to have only one healer, with the in-combat backup being someone using a potion or Healing Hands on her.

    I've seen you guys, and loads of other players over the years rely so much on healing magic that you are hoarding potions. You do realize the point of potions of healing in a group like yours is so the MAGIC can be conserved, not the other way around right?
    I never thought about it that way for some reason, but he's proven right. Now that we're all using our potions first and magic second, our cleric has been WAY more effective in the other areas and made for a much more diverse character for them to play.

      This is dependent upon your DM, though.
      In lots of campaigns, the healing potions are the only way to get the CLERIC up if they go down, or take the choice of who to heal and who to let fate do as it may out of the Cleric's hands if things go sideways. Its great to have a generous DM that lets you play that way... its also pretty rare I think. Most DMs don't reward players for managing to not use resources. Like, if you get through an encounter without using many healing potions, the DM is liable to have the next town experience a "healing potion shortage".

    I'm gonna need this to be edited to include every time Laura or Dani Carr claims Jester is a good healer on Talks.
    Awesome work by the way!

    • @Peter_Cordes
      @Peter_Cordes ปีที่แล้ว

      She's not a bad healer; she doesn't waste actions in combat on healing unless people are unconscious.
      And she did get some good use of Command and Banishment to reduce incoming damage.
      But mostly Caleb and Cad filled the support role of healing by stopping enemies from doing damage.

    This supercut has inspired me to play a healer who only uses Spare the Dying and Prayer of Healing to restore health. 1st level spells is for truly useful spells, like Create Water or something.

    • @misterthegeoff9767
      @misterthegeoff9767 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I like to have a healing word on hand because I can use that at range and as a bonus action where spare the dying is touch and a standard action but in principal yeah healing is for stopping people dying not for wasting entire actions on. With healing word I can get a sacred flame or a toll the dead off in the same round. I don't think I've ever played a 5e healer who found it necessary to prepare both cure wounds and healing word on the same day.

    I feel this SO hard. First time laying 5e, I play a War Cleric just to spice up my usual class routine. Usually I like playing the classes that encourage you to get up in the enemy's face and bring down the mighty hammer. I thought if I played a Cleric it would teach me to appreciate the healers that've kept me alive thus far.
    The Warlock, WIzard, and Artificer have to *physically* pull me back from the front lines and remind me I have spell slots for healing when all I wanna do is hit people with my giant maul. D': The Monk this campaign is getting all the action because his AC's really freaking high and he nullifies flanking against him.

    • @francisweller839
      @francisweller839 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I'm sorry, but Clerics' battle field control allows them to match sorcerers and wizards as damage casters. Pit a sorcerer against a cleric at the mid levels, most good clerics wipe the floor with them. The cleric isn't designed to be a healer - it's designed to fill whatever role your party needs or you want. And Jester wants an Arcane Trickster that can walk up in your face and drop 7d10 necrotic damage via illusory copy

    • @night4345

      @@francisweller839 This is just not true. Wizards and Sorcerers have better spells when it comes to damage. Sure, Clerics aren't useless at damage if they need to (Spiritual Weapon, Spirit Guardians, Dawn, Flame Strike, etc) but they generally are weaker or at a higher spell level relative to the damage that Arcane spellcasters can do. That's why they have all the support and buff spells that Wizards and Sorcerers don't have access to.

      I think you mean "I don't wanna be the healer". Clerics can be damage-dealers, exactly like Jester. (And have great spells to reduce incoming damage, like Hold Person or Command.)
      People who assume cleric == healer are wrong in 5e D&D.
