  • In the United States in 1995, Mercedes-Benz released the first official Mercedes-Benz AMG car. The C36. Without this car, AMG probably wouldn't be where it is today. Everything is owed to the C36 and the 5200 examples that were produced worldwide. Come take a ride in an original owner C36 with 231,000 miles that has been meticulously restored to it's original condition.
    If you guys like this video, please comment below! I can go further in depth with the car or we can take it on an adventure! Thanks for watching!

    What is wrong with them? It's worth everything. It's beautiful. It's a piece of Mercedes and AMG history. It's just an amazing car. I don't understand how people don't understand how well put together these cars are and the way they perform they're immaculate amazing special.

    • @ThrottleReport
      @ThrottleReport  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nothing at all! and I agree it's a piece of Mercedes/AMG history 100%. It's the only Mercedes made AMG to roll off the assembly line as a C280 and then driven down to the AMG factory to be made into an AMG. The 1998 C43 was produced 100% on the Mercedes assembly line. The car is very well put together and it still drives like it did new. I've heard of rust issues but that must be in the rust belt. Ours is a California only car and has zero rust. Only about 200 C36's were made in silver/black combo for the year 1995 and there is one example sitting in the Mercedes museum in Germany.

      Yeah, kind of a curious one is the C36 AMG... it gets overlooked a bit, and perhaps because it's a relatively unknown car compared with say BMW 3 series of the same era, their values have remained low. Aside from it missing a manual transmission, the C36 has a lot going for it, as another user explained in another comment on this video, things like AMG taking a box-fresh C280 off the M-B production line down the road to their AMG HQ and fettling/upgrading major components. Also cool facts like it being the official FIA Formula 1 safety car for the 1997 F1 season, or the fact that when it was new, it boasted more power than the Porsche 911 RS (964)! And now, having owned one for over a year I can testify to the incredible overall build quality. I had a mid-90s BMW 3 series once and the int. door handles, door cards and switchgear would all fall off, break or corrode, things like that are never a problem for the W202. Maybe they'll gradually increase their value over the next few years, maybe they'll plateau, but the rarity of a C36, and the comparative quality over a BMW of ghe same era is significant. These are some of my thoughts, let me know what you think! Cheers from NZ

    I was recently privileged to pick up an incredibly clean 97 c36 here in St.Louis, Missouri. Got it CHEAP from a guy who was moving and had a ton of nice cars but couldn't take the projects with him. My problem is that the engine needs some attention. The previous owner replaced the head gaskets but it is still blowing smoke. After calling several shops nearby, I can't find a decent place to work on it. In fact, while calling around I had one mechanic try to convince me that the car doesn't exist, arguing that they were never made lol! Anyway, I truly appreciate your video as it seems there isn't much online support or community surrounding these cars. I think you're right in that one day they will be appreciated and the value's will skyrocket for decent examples.

    • @IcejjfishTbone
      @IcejjfishTbone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally it is my favorite Mercedes ever built, however I don’t think it will ever “skyrocket” in price. That’s a good thing.
      Firstly we have to consider the limited production as well as the body, to the average person and even many Mercedes enthusiasts it is just another c class. Then we have to take into account it is an automatic transmission, which people where disappointed about. Which made it even less desirable to people who would cause a lot of wear and tear on the car.
      However guess what that means for us, we get a good car that makes decent power, has amazing reliability and is relatively obtainable. Not to mention it insures that a majority of the vehicles will be well maintained, due to the automatic and the expensive initial cost when the car came out
      To pretty much sum it up, the c36 will not sky rocket in price. However it will remain the same or gradually increase in value. People use the term skyrocket to liberally, the only cars that actually skyrocket are the trinity of jdm. Supra, gtr and rx7. Everything’s else has been slowly or somewhat quickly increasing in value over time
      When it ones to the c36. I think they will reach an absolute maximum of the original retail price (around $50,000). In that situation we are talking less than 15,000 miles, perfect maintenance as well as a car that has been driven a little bit every year to ensure everything is working fine.
      Again, that is good for guys like you and me lol. Mint examples of c36 now (I’m talking 80,000 miles or less). Will cost you under 20,000. Good examples just under or above 10. Personally I think that is perfect

    Nice video. I have a 99 C43 which I love, but it has the 18 inch monoblocks, billstein shocks, and it's lowered on H&R springs. I kind of wish it was more original as the ride is too rough, especially for the northeast of the US. I'd love to try a c36 though. If these were available in manual originally, these would now be very collectible.

    • @IcejjfishTbone
      @IcejjfishTbone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well the c36 is an interesting car. With the rising price of 90’s sport cars such a the Toyota Supra especially in manual transmission. However there c36 amg is a bit odd, when it came it it was expensive but only about $10,000 more than a Toyota Supra manual.
      The main reason the cost has remained quite low is due to 90’s Mercedes models are much less desirable from a collector stand point. The c36 is also viewed as “just a c class” by many people. So the price has remained low.
      So considering all those factors the c36 was also some what of a disappointment since it didn’t come in a manual. Which everyone complained about and was a large reason why the m3 of the same era is much more desirable.
      So that means that these cars will pretty much be obtainable for just about anyone, which is good for a car enthusiast who wants to buy it

    • @ThrottleReport
      @ThrottleReport  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I loved the C43's! Never have driven one. The C36 is fast for what it is. I wish it was a manual or a 5 speed. The 4 speed makes for great freeway passing but you're cruising around 3,500 RPM which can be annoying on long drives.

      Is that Canadian dollars? In the United States high millage for that age and specific model will run you like $5,000 maybe less. The only reason the price is high due to low production cost and the increasing price of 90’s sport and luxury cars
      In America these are worth some money mainly because they are extremely rare and they where always fairly expensive

  • @IcejjfishTbone

    The value of these cars going up is questionable, however they will most likely gradually increase over time due to several factors. Firstly we must discuss the rarity of the car, with the low production numbers finding one is hard. Then we have to consider the transmission it’s an automatic which makes it less desirable and is what some people thought was a disappointment at the time.
    When we take all these factors a lot of the people interested in this car went with the BMW e36 m3 over the Mercedes. Then we must also consider what happened to these cars when the prices went down? With the e36, drifters and track car guys took them and built them for the track, which made it more desirable especially in a manual. When it comes to the c36, the same type of people who got it new, got it used. Adults looking for something that is a fun luxury sleeper. The comparable cars of the 90’s where different, you knew they where fast. Which creates a reputation that increases the price as well.
    Now we have to look at the market from the same type of buyer today. A fun reliable, amg Mercedes with an automatic. They aren’t going to be thinking about the c36, they are going to be buying an e55 amg. Due to it providing all the same things in a newer chassis.
    Now let’s check on the enthusiast side of things, car enthusiast is general just didn’t buy it. It takes a very specific type of person to buy this car and not only take the time to find it but take the time to learn it. They are mainly good for highway and occasional track usage.
    So when we again take this information into account the m3 is just more desirable to more people, which increases the price. Remember kids, supply and demand increasing price, only works where their is demand. Low supply doesn’t automatically mean higher price
    This means good things, for us who want a good reliable daily. We can get these in good condition for a fair price of $10,000.
    You make the comparison between the 190e and the 500e however that is pushing it to the extreme. I think we should be happy that c36 prices will never skyrocket

    • @ThrottleReport
      @ThrottleReport  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Numbers game. Only 5,200 or so C36's worldwide. The first Mercedes and AMG produced car, officially. The only Mercedes AMG to roll off the assembly line as a non AMG car and then trucked down to AMG shop to be modified and then sent back to Mercedes. The C43 rolled down the line as a C43. There's so many things about the car I could name. Only time will tell!
