My dad was stationed in Kitzingen, Germany in the mid 70s and he and my mom decided to live off the base to save money and experience the culture. They stayed with a family and their apartment shared a wall with the family stable my mom was missing home and for the 4 th of July made corn on the cob and hamburgers and American potato salad. Their landlady was appalled at the corn and cold potato salad! She suggested that the salad needed heated and that they should feed the corn to Mösel her horse!

I'm Dutch and here in the Netherlands we call corn chicken food. "Corn is for the chickens". But I love corn on the cob with good butter. Love it! Nowadays all food is everywere. Thats a good thing.

Oh! Someone please introduce the poor Europeans to sweet corn and fire roasted corn! It sounds like all they ever saw was field corn, which has a blander flavor but is still good if cooked right. Fresh field corn is GOOOOOOD!!

I definitely would've never tried raccoon before this video. Now I am open to it. You never know what the future will bring. Don't apologize for taking a long time to write Christmas cards. It's amazing that you 2 are writing everyone back. I definitely will keep mine forever when I receive it.

My brother, his wife and two boys moved to Maine. They had the foundation poured and did the rest themselves. They lived in a tent that summer! The outhouse was used for two years. It’s still used in dry periods.

I'll miss ya for sure but I know you'll be back with another wonderful video when you can, like you said it's crunch time. For your house ….here’s an idea if you haven’t already thought of it. Instead of wedding presents when y’all get married have your friends and family’s gifts go towards the house. If they can give a couple hours here and there paint walls, sweep floors, help with flooring, help with the window hanging, small jobs, big jobs - what ever they can help with. That way you have more hands to help AND best part is your friends hands and heart have help build your home. Thats a gift that keeps on giving. Like a barn raising. If we were closer, we live in TN, we’d be right over to help. ❤️❤️

The taping, mudding & sanding of drywall is what takes the most time. Plus it makes a mess. Spray foam is extremely efficient, which is something you can do in the attic some day if you need to. Yep, floor is ALWAYS last or you’ll waste more time & money trying to tape it down.

Omigosh, you two remind me of the time I was first married (1989) and we lived In British Columbia Canada. I was a city girl from Chicago, IL. My husband's coworker had us over for supper and made the most delicious beef roast I had ever eaten. Not overly done and so moist and tender. I asked her how she cooked it and, at that point, everyone started to giggle. I slowly looked up and said, "What" in a very suspicious manner. Then my husband said that it was moose. Well, I was not going to give them the satisfaction of acting shocked and said, " Well, it is delicious. Can I have another slice?" So, racoon? I just might try it, lol. Watching you two reminds me of my husband and I. May you always have the loving playfulness in your marriage.

My husband hit a big buck one night, the hit killed our car but not the buck so the police came and it took 4 or 5 shots to kill it, it was wounded too badly to let live. The good part was that the police called the zoo to come get the meat for the animals at the zoo. I never knew they did that, I’m glad the meat from things like this doesn’t go to waste. Thank you for another interesting chew and chat. I do admit I wasn’t too sure about raccoon in the first place but it really was interesting and I learned something new today. 😁

It had in the cook book how to Cook raccoon and possum and bever and muskrat and things most folks wouldn't think about We are going to keep the book in the family. Just because our grandparents would say that's how we got through the depression and moving from here to there in the 18 hundreds is something to cherish. The Spanish originally brought the tomato plant back to Europe to use as an ornamental plant, like a rose bush. They often ate off of pewter plates which, when mixed with the nightshade plant, produced deadly toxins. Eeek. Over time, with bad memories I guess, they would just eat the fruit and not the leaves and stems and the rest is history.

I have had both racoon and bear many times. Both are good, but I think bear is a little oilier. Bear taste like a cross between beef and fatty pork. Good! One thing though - bear stays red no matter how much you cook it - unless you burn it up. Don't burn it - red is done and fine!

Hi guys, I do hope your holidays were pleasant. I know about those Cornell's dishes, as we have them. The way we found out was, my daughter, Bethany loves anything from the 70's, and my sis was going to buy her a set for Christmas. When looking on eBay, and etsy, that is when she discovered that the painted edges have lead in the paint. 😭. So she bought a modern set with no lead, but after using and washing, poor Betty has found that the paint is actually wearing off. Oh well. 🤷. I do hope that you get several bus loads of knowledgeable master builders to help you all with your home. God's blessings. 🙏🇮🇱🇺🇸🇺🇦🇦🇲❤

Greetings from Montana 🤠👋 I have to say…I LOVE being an AMERICAN!!! Raccoon, taters, tomatoes and COFFEE!! 😂🤣 Great chew and chat and I wholeheartedly agree with you that this economy is going to put a dent in the raccoon population!! 😂🤣 Good luck with “crunch time” and I sincerely hope you got my Xmas card…there was a Lowe’s gift card in it for you! Have a blessed week! 🤠🇺🇸🤠🇺🇸🤠🇺🇸❤

I’ve eaten alligator, deer, squirrel, rabbit and all type of wild fowl. My husband has had possum and said it was good but kind of greasy. If you’re hungry you’ll eat just about anything.

Some friends tried to get a venison roast past me. I caught that it was different. City raised and particular. They thought I would go PETA on them. It was food.
When living in Missouri, I found out robins are eaten. I did not have the opportunity.

Happy New Year Ron, Justine and Mish Mish.🎉 I wouldn’t eat raccoon , but during those days people need to eat some kind of meat. The potatoes and carrots looks great.
I should not be surprised. In Peru, indigenous people eat guinea pig and I tried that too. My great aunt cooked them. Fortunately, I don’t’ remember its taste. Never again.
Thank you for the update of the house.
    Weird historical facts:
“Poisonous” tomatoes. The Europeans believed that potatoes were poisonous.

Happy New Year to you both! and Mish Mish too!!! I like Ron's truck parked outside the cabin....Is that how the raccoon met it's demise?
