As a psychotherapist and a massive Jungian nerd, I have to say map of the soul 7 is a masterpiece, and Interlude:Shadow is one of the best media representations of Shadow I have ever seen. I could write essay upon essay about how perfect this song is at describing shadow integration 💜🥰

You are right, as the light gets brighter on you the shadow gets bigger. It is about recognising and accepting both the light and dark of your persona. This is why BTS are so loved, they make you feel and think and their concepts apply to anyone, any gender, any race etc.💜

So this is the interlude to the album Map of the soul 7 which is based on Jungian psychology. The INTRO is done by RM and outro is done by jhope So the album order goes like this 1. Intro Persona 2. Boy with luv 3. Interlude shadow 4. Black swan 5. ON 6. Outro Ego All the six songs are connected and share these psychological themes. You gotta know what persona, shadow and ego is to understand that last section of the song where he switches up the beat and distorts his voice... Basically it's sugas shadow speaking back to him. We all have a shadow self - the things we don’t want others to know about. They are not always bad things, simply things we want to hide. I think this is about the relationship Min Yoongi has with his desire for fame and success- a part of him that he doesn’t want to fully admit to. This is a struggle a lot of artists have. They can become ashamed of their own success. He and RM were told that they “sold out” when they signed with a label and became idols. So anyway, In the song he whispers his ambitions, then talks about the ways that following them have affected him. The success scares him. He’s not sure he wants it anymore. Then his shadow self - his ambition - repeats the same goals. The shadow reminds him that these ambitions are part of who he is, and he doesn’t need to hide it or be ashamed. They are him and he is them. At the end he is able to wade through all the craziness associated with fame calmly. He has accepted himself for who he is, and the chaos no longer bothers him.
