The LM Radio presenters were of the highest standard because they attracted and nutured talent to the greatest heights of professionalism. David Davies,Gerry Wilmot, Evie Martin, Darryl Jooste, John Berks, David Gresham etc were exponents of the "spoken word" These presenters cast such a long shadow and we all stand in awe of that "golden era."
LM RADIO was an era of good healthy music, love and passion. I was 7 years old when I found that it was possible to learn the basic english language by listening to the radio. I was born in Lourenço Marques and lucky enough to have South Africa by our neighbor. Because I was a listener of the most modern radio station in the world, I became owner of many advantages regarding the knowledge of music around the world, learned to sing the words of the songs and could easily impress my girl friends, it was fun! LM RADIO is in my blood and will never leave me as it is impossible to forget those years of my childhood, Lourenço Marques was a heavenly city with people like angels, our holliday time was spent in places with the most wonderful beaches, tropical and exotic fruits everywhere around, great landscapes and wildlife. All this would be much less enjoyable if we did not had a radio brodcast like LM RADIO. LM RADIO was the ideal company while studying for exams, eating lunch or driving in places like Zambi walks. LM RADIO was and still is today a TOP RADIO. Thanks to everyone who played important roll to make that miracle possible.
LM Radio has been important in my musical training since the 60s, and, even today, I am an unconditional listener of LM radio. The jingles were and are the best I've ever heard in my life. Many thanks, LM Radio
We used to tune in to LM radio on our "big means" radios while serving in Rhodesian Armored Car Regiment 1979/80...what a hoot to hear this music while in the bush! :-)
I use to listen to LM in Rhodesia, could only get it at night on SW. In the air force based at Kariba, the radio tech guys worked some magic and the camp station was 24/7 on LM radio, such happy memories.
LM RADIO FOREVER....Com o fabuloso Peter de Nobrega nas emissões de domingo à tarde e no final desse mesmo domingo Chris Turner recordando o Top 20 de 1972...NÃO PERCAM!
This style of programming originated in the USA and spread internationally. The distinctive jingles with the station's call letters were invented in the 1950s because by law in the US, radio stations were required to announce their name a certain number of times each hour. This legal rule was turned into these little songs, which were produced by companies that just did such things, including commercials. In the United States, radio stations are identified by sets of 3 or 4 letters, which either begin with K or W. The latter letter obviously is spoken in more than one syllable, which meant that all the jingles had to be able to accommodate it if necessary, and that in turn meant all of the music had this particular structure, even if (as in this case) there were only two letters in the station's name.
This was the station in the good old days but sadely gone to the dogs. LM is no more. Since Chris Turner left LM Radio after the come back it was totally rubbish, those guys who took LM Radio from Chris Turner had no clue how to keep LM alive

“POP!”, exclaimed 19 month Grandson Cameron when he watched LM radio museum and quickly recognized that voice from across the Pond🥰
Bringing it in from satelite and relaying it to more than a 100 intranet users since 2010. Making sure it will never be silent again.
