I've probably come back to re-listen to this almost a hundred times over the last five years, and every time, I love the story it tells. Great songs like this always have lyrics that move you, that make you imagine something in your head. Bye Bye Miss American Pie is a good example. Even if you know the story BEHIND these songs, sometimes what the song makes you think of is better than what the song is actually about. Miss American Pie is about the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, but the lyrics could also be about the decay and decline of America as a whole. And this song is technically about a man who murdered his wife, but when you listen, it could just as easily be a husband or father finding their wife or daughter dead and going on a rampage of revenge.
