General Smith’s comments about a potential war with China reveal his belief in the strategic and psychological advantages the U.S. holds in the modern military landscape. By contrasting the ways in which contemporary and historical conflicts are documented, Smith underscores the massive difference between today’s highly networked, information-rich combat environment and the more static, traditional methods of the past. His reference to U.S. combat being captured on an iPhone 14 is a nod to the ubiquity of real-time media, which not only facilitates immediate intelligence sharing and operational transparency but also influences global perception. In comparison, the Chinese military’s past combat, documented on "oil and canvas," evokes an older, slower, and less dynamic era of warfare, implying that the Chinese may lack the same level of agility and adaptability afforded by modern technology.
This contrast is more than just about how wars are documented; it reflects the broader capabilities of both nations in the realm of military preparedness and strategy. Smith suggests that the U.S., with its advanced technological tools and real-time battlefield feedback, has an edge in how quickly it can adapt to changing circumstances and make decisions based on the fluidity of modern warfare. By drawing attention to the value of "combat experience," Smith argues that the U.S. has honed its military skills through frequent and varied engagements, providing it with a level of tactical sophistication that might give it an advantage in a conflict with China. His comments reflect a belief in the superiority of modern warfare techniques, while subtly challenging any notion that older military traditions or strategies could match the speed and innovation of contemporary American military operations.

So the last major conflict the Chinese were in they lost 50000 to US 6000 (dont think that figures ROK or Brits) so they won by losing almost half of their entire force, and we all know that not every person that goes out is infantry, so they probably lost almost every infantryman they sent out. The last 40 years have been the longest period of peace in China's history. Yeah, that was pretty ridiculous. I'm all for the "We good they not good" thing, but to say they are still operating in a time before cameras is fuggin ridiculous. Hell they are probably ahead of us a bit.
They are more willing to "test things out" on the people before implementing. We have been in a cold war scenario with them for a long time. Even if we didn't know it, that's how they see it. 90% of their motivation is to build something stronger and better than us so that they could ruin us.
They've already got us beat on population like 10x over. And yet the west is over here talking about "overpopulation." As if they have infiltrated us already and compromised our leadership to where they say things like this and put it into the new gens heads.
The whole new age thing is going to lead to much smaller population over here and that aint good. Men win wars at the end of the day.
They are a very smart people and it would be a bad idea to underestimate them.

The German military in 1939 was not composed of large numbers of combat vets at the fighting unit level. Same for US Army and Air Force in Desert Storm. Armies that lost in particular, and went into a long period of self assessment and systematic redevelopment in a strategic lull have emerged to upend the history of warfare. Military professionals of yesteryear, steeped in history and theory of the profession of arms, knew that nations create the most effective combat organizations during periods of peace when you can modernize, experiment, train and develop without the pressing issues of a current fight. Combat vets get very skilled at the fight they are currently in but over time organizations lose effectiveness for the next fight if engaged in persistent combat. There's the whole organizational dynamic where you learn bad habits and generally apply all the wrong lessons in the next war. These are the kind of historic strategic lessons four star generals should consider rather than bleating empty repetitive slogans about oil and canvas.

Pushing DEI instead of pushing for improved lethality and remembering and learning lessons from past conflicts/wars. Plus over reliance on China gives us zero leverage. On East you Go 4000 years Back to China, While guerrilla tactics can be viewed as a natural continuation of prehistoric warfare, the Chinese general and strategist Sun Tzu, in his The Art of War (6th century BCE), was the earliest to propose the use of guerrilla warfare.

No clear winner? ? On June 25, 1950, China warned the United States for the first time not to cross the 38th Parallel in North Korea. On October 19, 1950, the Chinese Volunteer Army entered the Korean battlefield. On July 27, 1953, the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed with the 38th Parallel as the boundary. So in the Korean War, did the Chinese achieve their initial goal, or did the Americans achieve their goal of annihilating North Korea? ? Although the Chinese did not send troops to participate in the Vietnam War, hundreds of Chinese professional soldiers joined the North Vietnamese army as advisors, so who unified Vietnam in the end? ?
