I had a 1965 Moke in UK when I was 18. Six of us drove two down to Athens from London in 1972 doing 2000 miles in 7 weeks. Next year went down to Malaga in Spain. What a car that was. We all loved them. I sold mine for £250 in 1973! Great to see yours going. Treat it well.
Those are great little engines ,in my teens we use to squeeze 4 of us into an 850cc mini, that little engine was a trooper and took us all over the place......goodtimes
Thanks boys, I'm now invested in this as I'm about to start restoring my Mini Moke Californian. Mine doesnt have as much cancer as yours but yours has seats & a steering wheel where as mine doesnt 😂 may or may not use this series as my brains trust lol
I had a moke but was not a californian. i put in a 1275 cooper S motor with twin SU carbies and dad and i could not get it to run well on the standard fuel pump. She would run out of fuel at 90km per hour so put in an electric pump and she ran great, even at idle. The motor was fully worked and came from a speedway car though. The moke had the same issue with the floorpan so we had a new floorpan welded up for it. When we put the roll bar back in, it was so rigid that if you jacked one back wheel of the ground the other side would lift too. Had so much fun it that little car.
Had one back in the 70s. I reckon they imported them as deck cargo on submarines. For something with such a simple body, the bloody things rusted immediately. Lots of fun though 😊😊
As with ALL cars they WERE more effectiively painted, once people realised HOW to do it . Various systems were tried, by various manufacturers, and they settled on methods that protected cars in Scandinavia, where they have "REAL" winters! Today, 95% of steel is "powder coated", which SEALS paint onto the surface, prevent air getting AIR getting in. (Metal can't rust without AIR).
I could swear that voice sounded like Cody, when describing the Moke, and sure enough It IS. Nice to see you again.Haven't watched this channel in a bit.Sorry guys. I have some catching up to do. Been doing my own bike things and missed some vids. Glad it's running, and it sounded good too.
Tomorrow I pick up my new car, well new purchase... Mini Cooper S with a supercharged 1.6lt 4 cylinder. Around 200 WHP, 6 speed auto with steptronic paddle shifters on the steering wheel, 16" mags, run flat tyres. Got it for $1400 at auction, was a finance repo.
My dad's '39 Ford ute ran when parked, but by the time he got it, no motor or gearbox, one good thing was it had no rodent leftovers because it had no floor either 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Mini Mokes what an awesome 70s icon……. Some of the Californians you could get denim or floral Torno-roofs on….. but you’d need a pair of Levi Californians, a Golden Breed T Shirt, a pair of Adidas Romes and a copy of “Frampton Comes Alive” blasting out on the cartridge player to set the mood perfectly.
@@scotttait2197 Only PART of the dtory, though! In the 80's production was transferred to Portugal, and they were ALL IN WHITE. They still imported them, and they were kind of beach buggies, specially because the Portuguese could cruise around in them in the sun! They have now been recreated ( by another firm - the original company no longer exists) The new ones have a much needed HEATED WINDSCREEN. (I had seen people looking cool in England, in the 80's, in one. All white car, smart seats, and everything. But, with a plastic hood, and plastic side windows, everything had steamed up quickly!)
OMG I used to work at the backpack on magnetic island at horseshoe Bay in the late nineties lol we had so much fun with them, thanks for the memories lol
Those carbs respond well to the cap on top is like a plunger that has oil in it sewing oil give it a few pumps I don't know really but my 3:5 V8 had two of them and was told to service them like that never did tho 😅
To Matthew Never put oil in the carbs? Really, the manufacturers should have had carbs, where you DON'T have to do this. Because a lot of people haven't even heard you have to do it! And it really affects the performance of the engine - specially on small low power engines like this. On your large-engined Rover, however , there would be much power anyway!
Closest thing to a gokart with rego for road use and capable of ripping a few bush tracks or sandhills as demonstrated get stuck just pick it up and start again 😅
Have been around few minis in my time my brother has a nice weapon of one. Had a rusted bush bashed and at one stage the gear stick got shorter. The gear box x member rusted out and was dragging. These Moke are pretty rare what you got there would be around $5000 as is
G'day Guys I Love your work. Watching this video led to "The Classic EJ" episode coming on. Fuckin good job, you're damn right about engines having a soul. But as far as "Jacking up the car" from what I saw laying around, I could near flipped it over 😂
plenty of spare parts for Leyland mini moke kello Falkner Melbourne Keith fisher schools road Horsham Vic i got some spares still in my shed great fun in my day
I used to live on Magnetic Island,North Qld. There were hundreds of them there and a fleet of rental ones in Townsville . The "Californian" has extensions welded to the wheel arches, a 1275 cc engine and the fuel tank is under the rear rather than in one of the side "pods."
Don’t know anything about fixing maybe they should try grass cutting more there Level.Need to keep well away from CARS and anything with an ENGINE. Had to unsubscribe.💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩
Leyland moke, the race version, naturally lightend 😂 big money today if you have a good 1, I remember these when they came out, 😮 I'm 20 in my head, but my body won't except it 😂😂😂 🍻🍻🤙🪃🦘🇦🇺🇦🇺

😂
The rust holes are to make it go quicker right :D
Agreed
Sick wee car
they had two fuel pumps, depending on where they were placed. LP (low Pressure) if it was in the engine compartment or HP if it was in the boot.
Hi guys doing great work on mowers love seeing your shows every time

Good to know, sounds like I may have been told wrong thank you
I think the Californian also had a galvanised body
Crotch rocket swap it!
That was my first thought as well. Sketch level might be a bit high though... 🤣

If it's got a Leyland badge on it then it's questionable wether or not it ever ran in the first place. 😂
