    I love my Alienware M17R4, seems strange I have had it for almost 18 months. When I was researching it I found your channel. Thanks for your help and suggestions back then! I love it as much today as I did the day I received it. Love your new setup! Alienware takes a lot of crap online, but they make a killer machine.

      Yes. It has a large space to put a numpad on it. Not all people are pro gamer/streamer who use the laptop only for games. (Also Pros use desktops) I like Legion keyboard layout.

    As always, a great video, and well tried and true recommendations. Just curious if Justin or yourself were ever able to discover a solution for the incredibly bad internal speaker issue on the R2? Alienware tech support has probably blocked my number considering how much time I’ve been working with them. So far the only solution is live with it or use Bluetooth headphones.
    Merry Christmas

    Looks great! By chance did you try that display adapter with the M17? I'm looking to do something like this with mine. By the way I'm in my second M17, last one was damaged by dell while replacing the keyboard. The new one has Temps that match the one you had... still thinking I should have gone with the X17 but the M17 has been super fast and pleasant to game on.

    Thanks for all your videos! Especially those on the x17 r2!!! I can't wait to order one and upgrade it just like yours. Question: is it really a better option to get an i7 instead of the i9 option because the wattage is too high for the laptop to really handle the i9 right? I'm just gonna be gaming as high quality as possible and doing normal stuff like TH-cam, doing research, and writing essays. Although, I think I will be going with the Alienware AW3423DW QD OLED!!!!

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad they help. There is nothing wrong with the i9 but it’s a lot of money for a minimal performance gain as the system can only handle about 110-120w on the cpu then throttles it back, even the i7 can take more than 120w for full boost which is why there is minimal difference between them. The oled looks gorgeous it I believe it’s not the best for text so if you are doing a lot of reading writing it may not be the best option. I will double check as I haven’t tested the oled myself

    Great setup! I finally ordered the Alienware x16 over the blade 16 in mercury. Got a good deal on the x16. Was 2,940 after taxes including the premium dell extended warranty with onsite repairs and accidentals. The blade 16 would have been around 4K after taxes not including any extended warranty. Considering this Alienware monitor if I decide not to go the mini led monitor route. I would like an all AW setup as well minus the keyboard/headphones. Btw any reason you prefer display port over usb-c? I’ve always used usb-c with my MacBook to monitor.

    I have nearly the same Alienware X17 R2 as your config. I have chosen the QHD screen which is very nice and in my opinion the sweetstop for this graphics card. Could you please share youre temperatures on the GPU? I got around 80-84°C on the GPU under full load, which seems to be a bit high. I have already repasted but I did not really archieve any improvement (only on the CPU with real liquid metal). The GPU is repasted with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme. I have also lifted the back of the notebook so it can suck more air.

    Hey, since you reviewed both the x17 R2 and M17 R5 a lot (appreciated), I'm looking at an M17 R5 right now as there's an extra 20% off for a sale from Dell. Going with the 1440p 165hz model, with a 3080ti 16gb, 6900 HX CherryMX keys and 16gb ram, I'm looking at just under £2450. As the prices have changed since you reviewed the 1080p M17 R5, how do you feel about this? I'd really like to take a chance on the AMD with the temperatures and the 1440p res with black color - I'd be upgrading from a M17 R4 with GTX 1070, 7820HK and 1440p 120hz screen, much prefer 1440p over 4K. Thanks!

    I'm going on 2 months since I purchased my Alienware X17 with i9 and 3080ti (open box model) from my "local" Microcenter for US $2300. Such a huge discount from MSRP (3800 USD) I risked a few speeding tickets during the 60 kilo ride to the store! Currently driving my 32 inch 1440p Acer predator. Build quality is excellent. What I am hoping for with Alienware X17 for 2023
    1) 12th or 13th gen processors with 8 performance cores/16 threads, like the 12900HX for example. This is important for me as a heavy RPCS3 user and if I decide to disable eco cores, I want 8 cores still for multiple purposes.
    2) Bring secondary key lighting back
    3) 17" Oled screen with working HDR support for video and games but their 4K screen is very good vs most gaming laptops so I'll get the 4K if this is not possible
    4) more reliable assembly/ thermals from unit to unit
    5) RTX 4000 Mobile.
    If this time next year I can get something like an X17 R3 with 13900HX, secondary key lighting, 64GB Ram, Oled or 4K panel and 4080 mobile, I am in. But right now, their prices to versus ratio isn't there vs big brands like MSI and Asus, unfortunately.

    My Alienware x17 R2 seems to drop framerate and I cannot switch to dedicated GPU mode when a second monitor is connected. I would like to use the 2nd monitor for activities like discord and other stuff while gaming on my main 4k panel of the Alienware. Seems like the Automatic Select mode is unavailable too and I am stuck with Optimus. How did you manage to setup yours? I am using HDMI to HDMI. Thanks in Advance.

      That’s really odd. Let me test my hdmi and see if I can recreate. I am using a usbc to DisplayPort and had no issues with that set up. I have also used the mini display port successfully too but I always game on the external screen not the internal, I will try gaming on internal next

      Nope, haven't tried playing with those yet. The more I hear it, the more it seems like it's due to some rattle/vibration, as if the speaker wasn't mounted firmly.

    In your previous videos you say its only a minor upgrade in performace going from a 3070ti to a 3080ti, however also youve mentioned its a 10% performace differnace between the 3080 and the 3080ti. Using that maths woudnt that means it would be roughly a 20% performance differance from 3070ti to a 3080ti. Would 20% be considered minor if my maths is correct

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep I would say there is about 15-20% difference depending on games as the 3070ti is not far off the 3080. so I guess it depends if you value cost to performance as that best case of 20% extra costs hundreds more than the 3070ti. Its a hard one to call at the end of the day as everyone has a different perception of value.
