A question that was asked was: Can you explain once again what cask strength or half strength means and how it differs from its opposite? Cask strength whisky is bottled directly from the cask, without dilution. It reflects the natural alcohol content after maturation, usually between 53-65% ABV (alcohol by volume), though this can vary depending on the cask and distillery. Non cask strength is diluted with water to reach a consistent ABV, often around 40-46%, making it more approachable for a broader audience. The perk with cask strength whisky is that it offers flexibility since you can dilute it to your preferred taste with water. Adding water also reveals different layers of aroma and flavor, allowing for a personalized tasting experience. When I say you can add water I am suggesting two to three drops.
This comment is more than a bit late to the party, but the group of us tasting these together STILL refer to this one as the one we want more of! Love the locally available selection this year 😊
Lovely caramel and browned butter essences to the Rattray Balmenach 11yo. Thanks for this Day 2 whisky!

#4 was the best so far, smooth with a hint of smokey peat. I want a bottle of it and one of John's tweed vest coats please!
We would be interested in knowing after having tasted all12 drams what your overall favorite was.
