Tim, I found this recipe/video this past summer and tied up a half dozen for stocked PA trout.. I've caught more fish on this bugger than I have on any other pattern. Last night I tied another dozen and will be tying more. By far, the best bugger I've ever used. Let your buddy know. Thank you

you call it Chile Pepper. We call it The Plumber. I develop this fly about 35 years ago. Named it after a friend of mine who passed away. Yes, he was a plumber. It's tied with or without a bead. also tied with or without an orange collar.It's a great fly for fast or still waiters.

Hi Tim, Thanks for posting that Buggar! I tied several of them up last week in preparation for my trip to my daughters place on the Methow on Friday. First set I caught 4 rainbows in minutes, I gave one to my son in law and he had the same results. We went out again yesterday morning and the rainbows were all over it. Grant it the Methow is a catch and release only river and there’s a ton of trout in it the river is heavily fished with guides and the fish are pretty weary. Riley, Tony Spezio has told me that this pattern catches an absolute TON of fish, so I'm sure you're correct. I don't know much about redfish or coastal fish, but I guarantee that it will work on smallmouth. Good luck! TC

OK, Tim. I'm going to tie a few and see how they do on lower White River down around Cotter, Arkansas. I'll use # 10 or # 12 200R hooks. Been having good luck with the English Purple Spiders size 14, at Roaring River State Park in Missouri, but don't know how they'll do down on lower White. Will let you know how the chili pepper works. Thanks for the fly tying tutorial.

This fly would probably make a better crawfish imitation than the standard Woolly bugger, right? Tequeely has a copper body as well, but with two tone yellow and black marabou tail, and 6 fluorescent yellow chartreuse rubber legs.
Hi Mark, and this one tends to run hook point down. It's a traditional style, and to do otherwise would require you to substitute a jig hook or tie a knot that encourages the fly to invert. Thanks for checking, and you picked a great fly! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
Thanks for the comment, Ryan; many of the wires I use are lead-free, though I have removed many of the original stickers. Fortunately, the amount of lead used in flies is a minimal amount with few (none that I personally know of) documented cases of lead pollution due to flies. TC
There are a number of different companies selling a copper chenille now, though I don't believe they are the exact match to the one used in the video (which is from 2013). That material is no longer being sold, thus I would experiment with the ones out there and determine which works best for you. For the size, I would start with medium if you are tying in the size 8 - 12 range for trout. Good luck! Tim
