    John Balance seemed to make the art he wanted to make and didn't care what anyone else thought. All the best music has been done the same way.

    According to some of the comments, this was filmed in Thailand or Vietnam, which seems like great crocodile habitat. It took some bravery or insanity for him to twirl about in chest-deep water to film a music video.

    I remember the first time I ever heard this song. I was on 4 hits of special delivery. For a while afterwards, I called this "the boing song" after the sound they used on top of the snare drum. It was on a friend of mines mix tape back around 1993. I didn't actually find out the name of the song until about 3 months later.

      Hard Core acid thing. LSD is the one drug that actually physically mutates the DNA of the individual. So after you trip, you’re literally Not the same person you were before you dropped. LSD changes you moment to moment like that. And when on acid, pondering this can get very Deep

      @@xiutxui1689 I am comparing this song to a horror movie music and your saying it's transcendent. Hmmmmm what level of awareness are you partaking in. Coil are known for dabbling in the black arts and their music reflects that. They have also activated a audial device called the dream machine in several of their releases. To project demonic entities into your mental space or living space. This is done whether you believe it's happening or not.

    • @dotsmusichicago
      @dotsmusichicago 8 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      The opposite is true. Cybotron's Techno City was released in 1984, but their first release actually came out in 1981. Coil didn't adapt the Acid House/Techno sound until way later in their career. MBM's first record was released in 1987. Coil borrowed influence from Techno for a brief moment, not the other way around. The same goes for MBM. Not trying to be an ass, I just don't like revisionist history. I've been a massive Coil fan for about 26 years now, by the way.

      @@dotsmusichicago First of all, this track is not techno at all (well, it's dub techno, I would call it balearic-psychedelic dub). Second, a member of Coil was in Throbbing Gristle, their single Hot On The Heels Of Love (1979) being an important proto-techno track. Third, early Cybotron was Electro, a genre emerged from Electropop, invented by Kraftwerk in the 1970's. Fourth, before terms like Electro and Techno were used on their own, they were used alongside the term "Pop", as in electro pop, techno pop. Electro pop, like synth pop anyway, is very linked with Kraftwerk and other early acts like Yellow Magic Orchestra. Techno pop was a term that Kraftwerk was going to use for an album in the early 1980's that was pushed aside but later became Electric Cafe. But the term was used by journalists to coin more industrial-based pop like Depeche Mode (when they started to use samples), Cabaret Voltaire or Art Of Noise (you could literally separate synthpop, electropop, and technopop (more often called industrial dance), from the gears used). In my opinion, what Detroit Techno did is eliminate pop entirely: no singing, just pure hypnotic, dystopian, club music. The same happened when electro funk (the funk version of electro pop) transformed into pure electro in the US in the early 1980s (again Trans-Europe Express by Kraftwerk was hugely influential for all these genres). Genesis P Orridge was very influential in developing the rave scene in UK and was aware of the Detroit Techno. Some early proto-techno like the Throbbing Gristle track are from African Head Charge or other On-U Sound artists which I think this Coil Windowpane track takes influences from, or the zoviet-france track Mohnomishe 6 (or Untitled 6) from 1983 which is somewhat techno, a couple years before Model 500. I'm not a revisionist, I find that people who say everything started in 1985 aren't seeing it through. Detroit DJs were fans of Depeche Mode and Kratfwerk just as much as the Electro scene and House. They mixed everything up. Or maybe Techno was just Electro, but with upgraded gears.

    • @dotsmusichicago
      @dotsmusichicago 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Neurozumim No need for the history lesson, I'm well aware of everything you said. This is in direct response to the comment "before Techno there was Coil and MBM." Which is 100% inaccurate. None of those early Coil or Psychic TV releases had an influence on the development of Techno. Now, if Joe Reid had said before Techno there was TG and Chris & Cosey I would absolutely agree with that. It's debatable whether Coil influenced Shamen, Orbital, etc.. but Techno and Chicago Acid House had long been established as legitimate genres by the time Coil started incorporating similar elements. MBM came way too late to the game to have had an influence on the development of Techno.

    • @Neurozumim
      @Neurozumim 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dotsmusichicago Yeah, I don't consider Coil being linked to techno at all, though they have indulged in the genre at times. As I said to me Windowpane is more linked to balearic and dub than techno.
