So glad I "accidentally " found this show. As an American I particularly love uniquely fabulous shows like this...Australia is certainly birthing some gems ...more from these actors and producers is more than encouraged for world wide viewing.
Loving the show. Historically it is spot on. The hair stood up on the back of my neck when I saw the office interior. Those wood panels and aluminium frame room divider was MY office in 86. The Ford taxis - I must have caught 1000 of them in 86 alone. The clothes, attitudes, everything is just perfect. The drinking in the office. I think there was a lot more smoking than in the show. Everyone smoked back then. The music - spot on for the era. The little bits of background when he walks up to her apartment is pure van Gelis and the newsdesk mental breakdown music is perfect for 86. Whoever did the music, take a bow, you did your industry proud. The cast is just superb. Soooo believable, understandable and loveable. There isn’t one that you don’t like, even though they all have faults. And Noelene is the real star. Who doesn’t love her. I hope she falls for the sports reporter. Some bits missing so far - no yuppies with filofaxes, they were endemic in 86, no talk of finance and the business moguls/tyrants. No Alan Bond, white shoe brigade, etc. FWIW I lived through that year in a blur. I flew through the Chernobyl cloud on my way to France for a business meeting. I stood on a small street in Kirribilli late at night, as a total stranger handed me binoculars and pointed out Halley’s comet. I avidly devoured all the Chamberlain news. I had been in Melbourne in business days before Russel street. A lot more happened that year. Some years are like that.
This show just showed up on Roku and I binged it immediately. It’s SO good! The cast was incredible. The writing, the cinematography, the storylines… everything was outstanding. I loved every minute of it. I hope they do at least five seasons/series.
This show was fantastic! It really tugged on my heart strings this one. I had a good cry at the last episode! Helen’s face when she is talking to her relative in Kiev and knowing she will probably die from the radiation coming from Chernobyl! Then the scene in the empty office room between Helen and Dale when Dale has been told he will be on the desk. And Dale and Helen just rip open their hearts and are really honest about their deepest darkest secrets. Probably the best line in the series for me was Helen saying to Dale after he says he struggles with his sexuality “I just love you the way you are” Boy my girlfriend and I were just blown away by the depth of the love they have for each other ! I hope there will be a second series because the writing and acting on this show was amazing!
Late to the party, I found this before I found FRINGE. Anna Torv is simply amazing. Thanks to freevee, I was able to watch the entire series of FRINGE & was completely blown away by her performance in that, which added even more layers of appreciation for her talent.
Wow from a background in TV news room this show had me hooked on the first episode. Sam and Anna nailed the vulnerability and complexities of personalities behind and in front of the camera. Love ya work Aunty x
I love this show so much, and I've just kind of realised how amazing it is that lgbt representation isn't rare anymore. I remember when I was younger I'd hardly ever see it, and as a teen I really appreciate seeing this perspective, and I'm really excited for the story about Chernobyl in the last ep, the show really showed it in a packed year for news.
I was shocked to find out that there will be a second season because I seriously liked how things ended in S1. That will be hard to top. Still, I can't wait to figure out how Helen and Dale's relationship is going to progress in S2. I know of a couple who are like them and finally they are getting some representation in mainstream media!
@@earthgrazer55112 season A year on from the events of series one, we meet Helen Norville (Anna Torv) and Dale Jennings (Sam Reid), now established as ‘The Golden Couple of News’. To the outside world, they present a glowing image of success and romance. But the truth is more complex. As 1987 rolls along, global stocks will soar and crash, Australia will prepare to celebrate its Bicentennial year, and Helen and Dale grapple with who they really want to be in life - and whether that path can be together…❤😮
What a fantastic series and this promo is great. I send it to any friends I know who haven't seen it. I should receive a commission from the ABC! Have watched s1 & 2 several times and cant get enough of The Newsreader (and Sam Reid 👨❤💋👨), Look forward to s3 which will start filming in January 2024.

Sounds like quite a massive year for you Rosco, glad to rekindle the memories!

Super series. Just catching up with it here in the UK and thoroughly enjoying it.
It's brilliant. Life before smartphones and computers with real relationships. We need a second series.

Loved both series. Well done ABC and the show's creators!
I just finished binging the show and let me just say that I AM NOW IN LOVE WITH ANNA TORV!!!

I've found this show very enjoyable, though I have to say I'm a bit biased toward anything with Anna Torv in it, she is just stunning!
GREAT character study. Every single actor is amazing.
Fantastic show, can’t wait for S2!
Has to be one of the best shows ABC has ever made.
I love this show, i love Anna Torv❤
Really enjoyed this so far.
Bill McInnes is brilliant in this - he plays the dinosaur TV exec to perfection.

Everything she will play, i will always see Olivia
I admire Sam for taking these roles that promote women. But being a Sam Reid fan I like him in the lead male role
