Mom and Dad took me to the Armory in Danville Illinois, in the mid Seventies to see DTB's show. They bought me an 8 x 10 of DTB. He wrestled Ox and Ox got color. as a fourth grader, I naively thought that I could get Dick's autograph in the aisle on his way to the locker room after the match. He rubbed against me and the picture and kept going. I was hurt and disappointed until my parents showed me the small smear of blood on his picture, and told me that it was Ox's blood. To me that was better than an autograph. Of course I took the picture to school to show my friends. Almost brings tears to my eye's to tell it. I wish I could have met Ox in later years and told him the story.
Ox Baker was tremendous at drawing heat, with his heart punch putting opponents in the ER was a great story line, its great to get his take on his career, there aren't too many guys around from his era still around. 👍
I remember when he was a good guy and was the OX from Pine Bluff, Arkansas … He was a mid card guy and maybe 50 lbs lighter but still a big broad shoulder guy … Impressive looking
This video was recorded in 2009, the same year I discovered Ox Baker in the movie Escape from New York. I was 23 at the time and started watching all his old matches. I also discovered the Dynamite Kid around this same time. You see I lived through the Attitude era in WWF, it wasn't until my early 20s where I started appreciating classic wrestling.
Dick the Bruiser is an icon. I loved it when they brought Ox in to feud with Bruiser. Bob Luce who hosted the wrestling television show in Chicago played it up brilliantly. He showed replays of the Cleveland riot building up Ox as a monster heel, and it worked great. They did great business with that feud.
RIP to the late-great Ox Baker🔥

Ox Baker and Abdullah the Butcher were two wrestlers that legitimately scared me when I was a kid. That heart punch was lethal! One of the best ever!

It's interesting that neither Dick The Bruiser, the original sheik, the Missouri Mauler, Bobby Heenan, nor Ox Baker is with us any longer.
These guys were in the business 50 years ago.
What's so interesting about it?
Ox was a great dude but i only knew about him as a kid in NY from wrestling magazines and man he looked frightening!

Ox worked the Poffo’s ICW some. He’d show up at bars wearing sandals with pink toenail Polish…..interesting cat.

I remember Ox being called down on The Price Is Right with Bob Barker. Don't remember if he won😂
