I also cut of all my hair to grow out a full head of hair and as of right now my hair appears like a 4b hair type and also feels like it too but it also somewhat feels a little straight if that makes sense

Massage ya scalp🤷🏾♂️ not only for the roots but for more blood circulation . Don’t wash ya hair often, learning I went from every 2 weeks n if being honest I have ocd lol and I wear a silk rag. The more u wash your hair the more natural sebum, and other oils we have are lost🤞🏾🤞🏾
The sponge rips out your hair and takes away moisture no matter how soft you use it. Those same people with great free forms prolly took multiple months longer than they needed to, because of the insane breakage and loss of moisture that comes from using a sponge.

Nothing wrong with a sprush (sponge brush) to get your locs started EXCEPT that sponges hold bacteria. Try the racket or the rubber sponge brush instead.
Sponge, Brush, or Towel (microfiber) using ine of those, then pick the roots not the top just the roots, locking jell which is optional but speds up the locking process
My hair is thick so if i lift my hair up and sleep on it like u did in this vid it would be stuck in that position until i use a beanie to lay it back down
