California Gov. pulls millions in funding for San Diego County sleeping cabins

  • State leaders are backing out of their offer to contribute $10 million to place 150 tiny homes on a lot on Jamacha Road near State Route 125 in Spring Valley.
At first, County Supervisors approved the plan, but then changed their minds after neighbors objected. So now the state is pulling its money.
Instead of giving it to us for another project in the county, they're sending it to San Jose.

Come on - Someone needs to show some Math on this issue: $3 million per year in MAINTENANCE COSTS for 70 sleeping cabins??? That's about $3500 per person per month. That's enough money to subsidize a very nice apartment home for each and every person, PLUS luxury services. There are THOUSANDS of empty apartments throughout the Lemon Grove and Spring Valley areas that are renting for much less than the annual "maintenance costs" for these 70 sleeping cabins, not to mention the design and construction costs, which is likely a low estimate at $10 million. Are homeless people highly objectionable in some way, that we must keep them segregated from "normal" people who live in neighboring apartment homes? How would providing security and monitoring of 70 people in established apartments be more costly than doing the same work within a 70-person tiny-home community, other than the logistics of visiting each different unit, which would be an extra 20 minutes of travel and a dollar of gas more? (Are all homeless people violent slobs or something, or is there some zombie thing going on with all the homeless that I'm unaware of? Are they all drug addicts, and they need a kind of sleeping cabin rehab community?) Shouldn't we be integrating people we intend to "find" permanent housing, into potentially-permanent housing in the first place?

That's over $157,000 per cabin. And another $43,000 per unit to operate. Who's paying for this?

So what zoning is this classification to have 70 cabins? Any and all should be able to buy any property and do the same as well!

Are you guys just trying to profit some more just like the rest of the country right now

How many homeless do you personally shelter? You probably don't pay taxes nor do you own a hime so you could care less. No one wants a bunch of illegals and drug addicts in their neighborhood.

Undermine the churches reach over state-regulations; enforce separation of church & state by law: tax political-special-interest-donations by 50%, & remove Tax-exemption for churches. Run with this and revive it whenever it dies, champion, separation from special interest contributions, cults are no different, hiding as a church, special-interests are perversions of reason.

county supervisor approved it. It won’t be for the homeless. It will be for the migrants with family for housing just like what’s going on in nyc.

What are you doing? Don’t build all these units in California or at least put them in a far away area away from the main cities is away from the hard-working people that don’t want to be around people that smoke meth and are addicted to drugs andalcohol alcohol. There is a ton of property out in the high desert get all the homeless people out of the cities so I may be I would want to go there again. You can space everything out so far in the high desert where you would need less security because people would actually be free and away from each other.
