- This is just a little documentation of the first quarter of my foreign exchange in Indonesia! I will be living here for 1 year and can't wait to share more adventures with you! Please disregard the quality of this video as it was my first time using both my new camera and editing software; I can assure you that videos to come will be much better quality :)

I'm doing rotary exchange next school year. I am going to Japan. Iv heard some negative things about going to Japan but I'm not sure what to believe, does anyone know anything about rotary exchange in Japan in particular?

Great video miss! Love it.! Thanks for sharing your great experience. I hope you had fun in Indonesia :) I did do exchange program as well. But my program was in Darfur region (Sudan) So I did not great time. Because I spent most of my time in my host home scared to death.
What program did you go through?? I'm assuming you went after the genocide? I'm very surprised that your program sent you to an area with such great political struggles.

As for program. I joined this firendship-cooperation Nur Attaqwa Sunnah Waljamaah program. It is actually cultural programs. Where we exchange traditional dances, receipt, education and such. But we ended up helping the war effort mostly. Building sand bars, fortifications, cleaning rifles, carrying artillery rounds from barracks to fire post. IT was really exhausting! My parents did write official complaints letter to the program. They apologized profusely. But I did understand the logic. If we did not help, and the base gets run over by them Sudan Revolutionary front. Then we all will be in big troubles.
+bambang303378 This is my natural hair! It is always curly! I habe no tips for that because I really do nothing to it except wash it and leave my house, I don't even brush it haha.
That truly is unfortunate but as I'm sure you experienced, nothing else was being dome there to assist and help end the genocide. It is unfortunate that you were put in that situation while on exchange, but it truly is an interesting experience to share.

hi! I am going in exchange with rotary. I just found out today that I got put into Indonesia! I am really excited to go, but my parents are hesitant to let me. Could you tell me what you think your biggest benefits from exchange were so I can try and change their minds? thanks:)
Mae Hovland you can open your eyes to see another side of world and make you grow up
Mae Hovland show them some of my videos! Rotary would not send you anywhere that isn't safe. It is an amazing experience, I came back incredibly open minded, mature, and excited for the future. I felt comfortable with my host families, they treated me with love and I still talk to some of them today. I learned a new language and this unique experience was extremely beneficial for college admission and for college scholarships. I love Indonesia and I would do RYE to Indonesia again in an instant if I had the chance.

hey! i know this is really late given the date of when you posted this video, but i just really wanted to know if you can choose the country you want to go to in rotary?? i'll be joining the youth exchange program next year, and i really want to go to usa! thanks a lot by the way!:)
That's totally okay! I'm always here to talk! You do have a lot of choice, but especially for students coming to the US, it depends a lot on your test scores. No matter where you go, it will be amazing! Indonesia was not my first choice, but I cannot imagine having went anywhere else :)

Paola Díaz Hi,so I know you wrote this comment 3 years ago lol,but still,exchange is an awesome experience,you will learn so much,it will definitely change the way you see things and the way you deal with different situations,you should definitely go,it will change your life!!It can be pretty hard to go to a different country with a different culture,but it’s worth it.I’m in rotary youth exchange programme right now,in one year I’ll be heading to a different country where I don’t know anyone,but I know it will be an amazing experience.I’m saying this because you said you were not sure about it,but please trust me,go for it and have the time of your life.
How was the interacting in language and talking with people who didn't speak your native language
It was very challenging but it really helped me grow as a person. It shows you care enough to try to learn, even if you aren't great at the language.

I'm so sorry, I didn't see this comment until now! There are scholarship opportunities available! Reach out to your local Rotary club and they will help you and give you information about pricing that is specific to your area :) Fundraising is also an option! I hope this helps!

+Cassandra McDonell Hi! My major at the high school was Tourism so most of my classes revolved around that. However, I also took "normal" classes like Math, Language, and English. I was 16 when I left :)

Will you receive high school credits while you are abroad?
Victoria Grace I am lucky to have a very cooperative school and guidance counselor, so I will be receiving some credits. Not all schools will allow you credits from the experience so it's definitely something that should be discussed before you leave for exchange. I will have to make up some required classes but I will still graduate with my class. Some students are forced to, or chose to repeat the year they were abroad.
